RE: Cold vs. hot tire pressure

Alright all you critics ;)
ALL I was posting was that now that I did the mod on my truck to show tire pressure on the dash (truck did not come that way), I was made aware of the psi increase in the tires.
Before this I would increase tire pressure once the camper was loaded then not check it for the rest of the trip. Does anyone here check their pressure on a 3-4 day trip? I didn't.
Sheesh! :B
Yes I do every morning before I head out. It is nice to know what is happening with the tires during the trip, a slow leak can cause a blow out if you haven't checked the pressure before you take off.

RE: No Sanicon

Solution:
In my battery compartment, on the rear wall, is a breaker bar with several contacts (posts) coming out of it. Several wires are connected to the various posts, except for a purple wire, which had somehow come loose and fallen off the post. That was the wire that fed power to the Sanicon. Once that wire was reconnected to the post on the breaker bar, the Sanicon powered right up.
Thanks to all for the help-
Dave
Don't forget the shaft maintenance. Glad you found the problem

RE: Got TT from 1 year service, no breaks

Other than damaging a wire while jacking or jack stand use I don't know what it would be. I would think they would have the parts on hand to replace the complete system if they had to.

RE: Cold vs. hot tire pressure

Start worrying when the pressure starts dropping as you drive, otherwise enjoy the trip.

RE: Reese hitch with Sway Control

I think you are talking about a friction bar sway control. The clip pins hold the cups on each end of the sway bar on the smaller balls on the tongue and the hitch head, they are a loose fit. The lever you twisted on the sway bar is the one that tightens the brake lining pads to the slide part of the sway bar so it works.

RE: Axles

If the axle is from Dexter, send them an E-mail with the serial number of the axle and they will send you a copy of the build sheet showing everything about it. Been there done that.

RE: From Kingman, Az to Las Vegas over Hoover Dam ??

No traffic can cross the dam.... From the AZ side, you will cross over the new bridge, only about one year old. From the Nevada side, you can reach the dam for tours, ETC, but that is it. That new bridge is really something, and you can walk on it.
Drove down to the dam in February to look around after walking to center of the new bridge. We drove across the dam and up to the top of the ridge for an excellent view of both the dam and the bridge.

RE: No Sanicon

If you haven't cleaned the shaft of hair and other stuff, that could be part of the problem. Mine is a boxed unit I attach and use as needed, it has a fuse in the power line. While using the volt meter, did you have a good ground to work with, maybe need to chase the wires from one end to the other to find the power loss if there is no power to it.

RE: Tire pressure

Keep them at the 65lb pressure. Better reserve that way, and you don't know how much weight is on each tire now.

RE: Hitching Up WD Hitch on Uneven Ground

How does the truck sit empty on level ground, about 1/2" lower on one side? Way too much time and effort spent on this issue without heading to the scales and seeing what is really going on. If you are set up correctly, pull the thing to a campground and enjoy it. If it is not right, get it right and go camping. I don't think I have ever had a truck that measured the same left and right side, either empty or hooked up to a trailer.

RE: Transmission oil cooler

Of the problems I have had with the 6.0 Chevy, transmission oil heating up has never been one of them. Not sure a larger replacement/upgrade is needed.

RE: Add grease zerk to axle or not?

greasing bearings that way is best left to boat trailers that need the water squeezed out. Always better to tear them down, clean them and check for problems, repack, replace the seals, check the brakes and be good to go again.

RE: "A" drivers licence

Heck you don't even need a physical card to wheel the rigs around. If you have a standard drivers license and can into the seat, even if someone has to help you, you are good to go.

RE: Dumping half bath black tank every other trip or so?

What does the owners manual say about traveling with partial full holding tanks?
Some of those tanks are not well braced so the liquid movement and weight can cause problems with the tank staying in place.

RE: Goodyear Tires

I would say yes, speed and not checking air pressure cause a lot of tire problems. Also tires not large enough for the load that is on them have caused problems. Maybe the LT is better than a ST and then again maybe not. At some point maybe we will have a thread comparing tires.

If you have power to the bulb, then either the bulb or the ground is bad.

RE: Need advice on toy hauler swaying on freeway

Do you have good tires for towing on the Toyota and were they aired up? You do need to have the proper adjustment on the WD hitch to get weight back on the front end of the rig that came off when you hooked up the trailer. If it towed fine with the 3/4 ton I think the tongue weight is not the problem with the trailer, but the weight and mass is a problem for the truck as it sits now.

RE: is it hard for a novice to repack bearings???

first time ? better to have a friend who knows show you. its not hard BUT things have to go back in the right spot and the nut tension needs to be just right.
Never too old the learn, if this is something you want to do yourself. Brakes and bearings do need to be checked adjusted and properly put back together. Always good to know how it is done.

RE: HELP, brake wiring

The electric brake wires have nothing to do with the brake and signal lights. All the brake magnets activated by one prong of trailer plug, brake light and turn signal activated by one prong for left and one for right brake light. Might check the plug and wire harness to see if the dog chewed there too. Check the truck plug to be sure power is there then check that the connections are good if the wires look ok.

RE: Nat'l Park senior pass

...For what it's worth as an example ... California NEVER bought into cutting seniors some slack on camping prices, anyway. Seniors get a ridiculous $2 off daily camping rates at CA State Parks - which are, by the way, through the roof on pricing. As I understand it, in some states use of State Parks by seniors is FREE...
Yea, I was a bit surprised to find dry sites at McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park were $35.00 per night (less $2.00 as a senior).
As to other states, NY lets state resident seniors (and their passengers) into their parks for free Monday through Thursday. Only entrance fees, not camping...
As a sportsman in WA State I get to pay an extra 30 dollars when I buy my license to help keep the State Parks open
