RE: Goodyear RV Tire site pressures sound right?

My Fleetwood had the GY G670s and the front weights are 4,468 and 4,619 lbs and the rear is 7,942 and 7,800 lbs. With the GY I kept the tires at 105 front and 95 rear. It is higher than the charts, but not much and gives a good ride. I am now riding on replacement Firestone on the rear and Michelin on the front, but using the same pressure.

RE: Newmar question

We did the Newmar factory tour last year and there is only one production line where they build everything from the King Aire to the smallest gas model. The difference is the parts which go in at each workstation, but they are installed by the same people. As on all model ranges the fix and fittings are different for each model line, but the quality of build with the Newmar is the same for all models. Very impressive factory tour. They were building an Essex, Dutch Star, Bay Star some Ventanas, and one of their last fifth wheels when we were there. My DW says our next motorhome will be a Newmar and I agree.

Diesel on I-880 Bay Area

Currently near Greenbrae CA and looking for truck stop/diesel on I-880 south headed to Paso Robles. Gilroy Garlic Farm sounds ok. Others could be on 880 25s, GG petroleum, 39a GG petroleum, or 33 San Leandro, Pacific Pride. Any suggestions or comments appreciated. 38 foot mh towing Jeep.

RE: Which wax?

I used to use NuFinish twice a year to wax coach, but it was hard work and took a few days. Now I use Turtle Wax 1 Step Wash and Dry, or Lucas Slick Mist after every wash. I alternate between the two and just spray on as I dry the rv. The Turtle Wax has carnauba in it and Slick Mist is a "...polymer paint gloss intensifier, which can be used on other surfaces such as glass, chrome and vinyl decals." Any rain just beads off the rv and the shine is incredible. My own opinion is that the TW gives it a deep reflective shine and the SM gives it a high gloss polish look. Very simple and not a lot of hard work. I also do the same with our cars. TW is available in WalMart for under $5 and SM is available at auto parts stores and is about $8.

RE: Tire Replacement on Class A Goodyear or Michelin

Just replaced the 4 rear G670s on my 2008 Expedition after 32,000 miles. Front tires were also Goodyear G670 and had rivering on them so I had to replace them last year. 275/70R 22.5 Firestone for $378 each plus installation and tax. Total bill for 4 tires was $1,856.

RE: Downsizing!!!

There is a lot of information about Sprinter rvs on the Sprinter Forum website, and it also has a section discussing the various manufacturers: Sprinter Forum. If you consider the Forest River Solera you can get a quote from RV Direct with a very good discount. We are also in the state of "when not if", and are considering Sprinter based rvs, but we also saw a regular class c, Forest River Forester which is 27' on the E 450 chassis with 3 small slides. Worth looking at the floor plan and pictures. Not pushing FR, but they have interesting innovations, and a Sprinter with the Murphy bed. We currently favor the View/Navion 24M.

RE: Downsizing A or C ?

As Old Biscuit points out, you have started to define what you want/need in a new rv. Write down your complete list that defines your needs, and then the answer will be clear. If towing a car is very important, you need to check the towing ability of the Sprinter. I know the manufacturers say 5,000lb or 3,500lb, but I would question that number. There are some good alternatives like the Thor ACE (class A & C Evolution). Also look at a Forest River Forester or Sunseeker which are 27' class Cs, with 3 small slides and on E450 chassis. I know you said no Cs because of visibility, but you should drive these units to balance out visibility, space, towing capacity, beds, storage etc., to see where you can limit your compromises and get most if not all of what you want.

RE: Used class A dealer priving

I would agree with everything Usual Suspect says, but add that the NADA Wholesale Price is the guideline dealers use for trade-ins. Once you know the model and year, check with the local libraries to see if they have a current NADA Wholesale Guide in the reference section, and go look at it. If that is not possible, take 10% off the NADA low retail price and you should be in close proximity to what the dealer trade-in value will be. Start your offers at just below the dealer trade-in value. Be prepared to walk when the dealer tells you he is losing money, because that is not the issue. Lowest price is the best price for you.

RE: Any guiding principles on parking a 43' DP?

The 7 part video course from Lazy Days and Barney Alexander is some of the best information available for driving a large rv. It really helped me and I regularly look at it again to remind myself of what I need to do. IMHO must watching for all who drive motorhomes.

RE: Redwood slide damage

I would walk away as fast as possible and ask for a new fifth wheel. Even if they repair the damage and offer you a discount, you could still have problems with the slide that is out of alignment. After the warranty expires, do you think the dealer or manufacturer will pay for problems with the slide?

RE: Driving to Europe

Goldencrazy: Newfoundland & Labrador can be done by car, bike, ferry etc. The question is how do you get to Newfoundland from Holland. There is a lot of water going west from Holland, but you can stop in Iceland and Greenland. If you approach Newfoundland from the north polar region, you won't see many Flying Js on the way.

RE: Driving to Europe

The North American Arctic comprises the northern portions of Alaska (USA), Canada and Greenland. Major bodies of water include the Arctic Ocean, Hudson Bay, the Gulf of Alaska and North Atlantic Ocean. The western limit is the Seward Peninsula and the Bering Strait. The southern limit is the Arctic Circle latitude of 66° 33’N, which is the approximate limit of the midnight sun and the polar night. The region is defined by environmental limits where the average temperature for the warmest month (July) is below 10 °C (50 °F). The northernmost tree line roughly follows the isotherm at the boundary of this region. The area has tundra and polar vegetation. Environmentalists do not want Harleys in this region.
