RE: Need to Replace Plug on 50Amp Shore Cord

Well I went out and tried one last time to unbend the prongs and had success:B. I was able to straighten them enough to allow the plug to go in. It's a little tough to separate from the outlet but not too bad.
Thanks for all the help and advice!
You already have the new Plug might as well replace the old one and make it all nice a new:)

RE: build my own

Can you put a Locker in the rear axle of a Class C?
It doesn't give you 4x4 but a Locked 2x4 sure beats a standard 4x4 most of the time.
Clearance is still an issue though but if it is just sand and snow, clearance shouldn't be a problem.
Dunno really just throwing ideers out there.
and with sand you still can get stuck in 4x4:B

RE: Installing a 50 Amp Shore Receptacle on my home?

Yup- the 50amp Rv receptacle is a common receptacle 14-50R, same one they use for a Kitchen Range.

RE: WW FS2500 Weight & Equalizer Hitch Suggestion

another serious question.. why do you feel you need to Upgrade?
I had a FS2500 with Husky WD and Friction bars.
I use a Husky as well for the current trailer also.

RE: Basic Campground Electric Hookup Question

I think Wax meant it uses both 5-15 and has a TT-30- not that it will supply 30amps- at least from reading his past Posts, I'm pretty sure he knows it will not provide 30amps.

RE: Basic Campground Electric Hookup Question

I don't quite understand the 10g wire/cord protection:
I plug in my Toaster to a 20amp receptacle- should my toaster have a 20amp rated power cord
I plug in my 10amp grinder to a 20amp protected receptacle
The DW uses a 1500watt hair Dryer....
etc etc.
Why can't an Rv with a 12g 120v Power cord plug into a 30amp Rv receptacle?

RE: The 10% min Tongue weight rule - Why?

I don't know the physics behind it but I have one of those plastic garbage cans that has two small wheels on the bottom. I have pulled it to the curb for pickup many times. I have found that if I try pulling it with the handle high (can almost vertical - little "tongue weight") that it will "sway" almost immediately and want to tip over in just a few feet. All I have to do is lower the handle down a bit so the can is more horizontal (more "tongue weight") and the "sway" stops immediately.
I imagine the exact same thing is happening in a trailer. There is a definite point during the pulling of the garbage can that the sway will start and a definite point where it stabilizes when lowering the handle. I think this would relate to the 10% and higher tongue weight on a trailer.
Also, many years ago, my son Dale borrowed my utility trailer to pick up some plywood and 2x4's for a project. He loaded it all in my little trailer and started home. Of course, the plywood and lumber stuck out the back of the trailer for quite a ways. A short time after he left the lumber yard I got a call. He said that the plywood was strewn all over 8 mile road and would I please rent a truck and come get him. Seems the trailer swayed violently when he got up to about 40mph and spit that wood out all over the 4 lane wide road. I did rent a truck, and we got the wood home ok. To this day, the ceiling of his enclosed deck on the back of his home has tire marks on it in testimony to his improper loading of the trailer! :B

RE: The TRUE Towing Regulations

Well...this issue has come up again, and there is so much conflicting information out there, I'm look for the REAL info pertaining to regulations, state, federal, DOT, etc.
Let's look at a current scenario:
We have an enclosed tag race trailer, 24-ft, 10,000 lbs loaded with car and gear. It's towed with a basic pickup, and has all the safety stuff: weight dist, sway control, elec brakes, etc. The trailer has sponsor logos on it, and we tow all around, but much of the time in California. What regulations, if any, are there pertaining to something like this? Not looking for speculation, just the hard, cold facts. Thanks, all!
Well here is one:

RE: Sway Control for 16' Enclosed Cargo Trailer

Thanks for the comments. I'm going to try it without sway control, and add it if I have problems. Had a sway problem several years ago, and The fact that I was towing with a Dodge 3/4 T pickup didn't matter, the trailer was the BOSS - Not a good situation. Guess sway control is actually cheap insurance.
penokee:)
Sway Control is not for Stopping sway from a trailer that is improperly loaded.
You should be able to tow the 16' Enclosed trailer w/o Sway Control with any vehicle that has the capacity to tow the weight; 1/2 Ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton
I towed a 16' enclosed trailer with a 2001 Ford Expedition as well as a Ford 1/2 Ton- No sway control:)
I had a friend call me while towing a 60's shasta freaking out because she was all over the road. I asked her how she had the trailer loaded and she said she had put everything in the back. Told her to move it to the front- sway be gone and her trip was all good.

RE: Generator ground rod

Please list the failures where it's better to have a bond (in RV). I know of none.
Sal
During a ground fault, metal parts of electrical equipment, metal piping, and structural steel will become energized. This situation provides the potential for electric shock and fire. The system bonding jumper resolves this situation by creating a path from the metal parts back to the source and allows overcurrent devices to operate, thereby removing the dangerous condition.
Salvo, this is certainly the one I would be most concerned about.
Bonding is one of the factors that caused the sparks to fly, destruction of equipment, death, possibility of fire, etc. Yes, fuses or breakers can blow, but not before the above mentioned can happen. 15A needs to flow before the fuse blows. What if it's not a hard short, but only 10A flow? The breaker will not trip. Something will get awful hot.
This scenario will not happen in an unbonded system. Not with one fault. There are no equipment loss, deaths, fire or what ever.

RE: 3 LNB HD Antenna

How do you know it's a 3 LNB dish? It's hard to tell from the outside. Does it have three white heads protuding from it and does it say "Slimline" on it? Then's it's probably a five LNB dish. What does the dish say on it? If it's for DirecTV and is the newest HD dish, it has only one white protusion and it is a 3 LNB dish. The four connections are for four seperate receivers. All you need is one RG6 cable running from one of the connections to a HD receiver with an authorized card in it. The length of the cable depends on the distance between the dish and the receiver.
Sorry, I've been with DirecTv for so long I tend to forget there's any other kind! It is a 3 lnb as I previously stated. This is not in a dome, but rather the type that one has installed on one's house. A friend is switching to DISH and I want to convert it to my portable antenna (I already have an "old fashioned" non-HD antenna on the roof of my MH).
Since I have two TVs in the MH, I guess I can just remove the two cables I currently have on my poirtable antenna and place them on the "new" one.
If you don't have an HD Directv receiver then this new Dish does nothing for you :)
