RE: Camper Theft

How do you prevent someone from backing under your TC and driving off with it when it's off your truck? I realize that a .45 or 12 GA are very effective but only if you're home. What if it's in storage or you aren't home while it's sitting in your driveway? TTs and fivers have locks that go on the hitch but a TC? Mike Mike, after reading the replies. And noticing you don't have a truck camper And I doubt that any of us personally know you And we are giving away our secrets on a public forum The real question is: Mike, are you the potential truck camper theif... taking lessons... gathering info? What could make you ask the question? What is your motive? An inquiring mind wants to know. Sleepy UH-oh;)

RE: blower works only on high setting

Blower motor resistor for sure. All three of my GMs have bad ones. Very common. They cost $35 each for the Cavalier and the Sunfire. Now, GM in their infinite wisdom, decided to make the resistors cost $35 for those who have bucket seats and $79 for those Silverado's, like mine, that have the bench seat. Engineering at it's finest.:R Mike

RE: Trailer and truck swaying...

I just put on a set of Michelin LTX M/S tires and squirmed all the was to the Pinery in Ontario this weekend. The trip home was noticably more stable. Just the new tires getting worn in. I have a friend with a BMW something or other and he says BMW recommends NOT rotating the tires because it can affect the handling. I guess he likes to buy tires more often than he needs to. Mike

RE: Steering column "clunking" sound. Why???

Dealer replaced mine with the new shaft at 19,000 miles no charge. Now at 66,000 miles and still no clunking. We take this truck off road quite a bit when out west and Michigan roads are probably the worst in the nation. So whatever they did seems to work. I would see if B.O. Motors would fix it for free since it's a known problem and, if not, I don't think it costs very much. Mike

RE: generator at high alltitude

Ran my twins at 9000 feet for nearly three weeks this past summer. Didn't re-jet or anything. I'm still using them with the same plugs. Just changed the oil is all. Ran fine the whole time. Mike

RE: China tire prices going up

The only way that RV manufacturers will quit using the Chinese bombs is when we RV purchasers refuse to purchase RV's with Chinese tires on them. It is up to us. Are we up to it? Yes. My next camper will be a truck camper.:B

My trip to Sunoco

I just stopped in the Sunoco up the road from work and a guy just filled his tank with gas. Sounds about right.....except it was a VW Golf with a DIESEL:h Maybe it was a new-fangled "dual-fuel" vehicle like a Coleman stove.:B Sounds like an expensive mistake. Luckily he didn't start it and drive off.

RE: steering wheel or axle housing GMC

G80 rear end? Does it do it mostly pulling from a stop and turning? Change the rear end fluid to Mobil 1. It'll stop the vibration. Mine did the same thing on my previous two G80s. Mike

Ran a red light today.

All over town they are taking down the traffic lights that hang in the center of the intersection on wires and putting up the lights on poles at the far end of the intersection. I was following a semi several car lengths behind and couldn't see the light until it was too late and I was in the intersection on a blazing red. I tend to think that the general idea is that people won't be able to time the yellow lights (or see the light at all behind a semi) and, hence, will be issuing more tickets. Lucky for me there wasn't a cop in sight and hopefully there wasn't a big brother camera waiting to issue me a ticket. Mike

RE: If only I had a John Steinbeck action figure.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2006-2/1143083/camper1.JPG Got this when I was 6. This is why I have a truck camper today. j. My eyes boggle at it's coolness! I have a Matchbox International Scout and a Matchbox travel trailer I used to play with when I was little. I still have it and it's sitting on the window sill in the kitchen. Mike

RE: What's the best rear end?

I had an E350 with the 5.4 and 3.73 rear end. It was just enough to tow the 6500 pound trailer. I was wishing I had the 4.10 by the time we got to the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming though. Good, solid towing platform and nice to have the porta-potty handy but it just didn't have the guts. Make sure you get a locker while you're at it. My van would get stuck in it's own shadow. Mike

RE: Our National Parks

MarionMedic wrote I "DO" see the number folks injured in animal attacks declining in the future. Nothing like a "bang-stick" to deter a lion/coyote/bear from gnawing on your appendages. I sure hope people carry something more than a 9mm if they have to shoot a bear. I think anything less than a 44 mag would just succeed in pi$$ing off a grizzly or brown bear. But those encounters where people have to shoot the animal in self defense are rare and the bill is intended to uphold our God given right. You are most likely to have to defend yourself against two legged predators. Mike

RE: Our National Parks

Very cool!!! I have been to more than half which means I need to get out and travel more. And yes, garyhaupt, the GOP attached the bill that allows concealed carry in our national parks and wildlife refuges to the credit card bill which B.O. has no choice but to sign.:B I don't think the dems are very happy about the Republicans using the same tactics that they have been using for the last eight years.

RE: Wiring Trailer Back-up Lights

No inspections in Michigan. And I'll just call them "docking lights" instead of reverse lights:B

Wiring Trailer Back-up Lights

I installed two 55 watt reverse lights on my TT rear bumper wired directly from the center reverse pin so the lights go on when I shift into reverse. They have been working great. Now I want to add two more 55 watt lights in front of the tires of the TT so I can see down the side when backing (an idea I got from RV.net.) Not wanting to see smoke coming from under the dash, I want to add a relay on the trailer to power all four lights. I don't need an in cab switch to turn the lights on and off but want to just keep them so that they turn on when I shift into reverse. I want to run the center pin (reverse) wire into the #86 on the relay. #85 to ground. 15 amp fused wire from the house battery into #87 on the relay. And the lights into #30 on the relay. Does this wiring sound correct? Thanks, Mike
