RE: A Class B I can drive in town and that has a REAL bed?

"Is there such a thing as a 19' Class B that can be comfortably driven and parked in urban areas and which has a real bed? My definition of "real bed" is a genuine mattress - not a lump of foam." And definitely not memory foam, which makes me sweat like a very sweaty thing."
I'm just getting around to responding, and I'm lazy so I did not read all your responses.
Memory Foam could be NOT HOT beginning, I'm not sure when, maybe about 6-7 years ago. It can be wonderful if one understands what to purchase. Hot memory foam is still out there. With the Hot stuff, not everyone finds it hot, but I sure did.
"I've been looking around for a little while now. I'm retiring next year and want to hit the road. I'm a 50 year old woman, and I'll be traveling solo."
I'm single and my B is perfect for traveling solo. I have a Roadtrek 190P, a regular Chevrolet Express van, not widened. I do find the "twin" to narrow! It was easy to simply have Home Depot cut a sheet of plywood the right size. Then I cut a little more at home to fit the back of the van. Just removed the cushion, put down the plywood with nothing else, no screws etc. I use 3 layers of different foam with the top layer cool memory foam that I cut to the right size. The bed is 6" wider as 27 inches was just too narrow. It is a wonderful bed. There is still plenty of room in the isle to move around.
If someone drinks much alcohol, a cool memory foam is a MUST and for some that don't still a must.
If you need info concerning what the different layers of foam need to be, please let me know.
Have fun wondering around.
Bud
I love the idea of a Sprinter Van conversion, but haven't seen one yet that offered something that looked like I could actually sleep on for a week at a time.
As an alternative, I'm considering a 5th wheel.

RE: What Did You Do To Your Class B Today ?

BudJ - I did not remove my fan blade to install the reverse switch.
I am looking for a solution to undoing the grub screw in order to remove the blade to clean it.
Sorry I misunderstood.
Why the heck do you need to clean it?

Look again, the fan blade does not have to be removed. At least I did not have to remove mine to add the switch.

RE: Waste left in hose after dumping tanks

crusingat60, if the gray water bothers you, simply run the fresh water in the sink for a little while with the valve open after dumping the gray water.

RE: Smaller than a B

"Story gets weird on the "owning land" issue too. Owning land in China is impossible everywhere."
Native American did not understand or have any concept of 'Owning' land. Hey, this is mine.
Many, Most don't understand that 'Capitalism' left unchecked, unregulated is a most Brutal form of Survival of the Fittest.
Bud
You make that sound like a bad thing.
Do you think everyone is entitled to the same level of success regardless of effort or ability?
No of course not. Motivation, Competition is a good thing.

RE: Feedback on 2000-Rialta HD

I have never heard anything good.
Had a friend with one, only mayor and minor problems. He moved on to a small C, then recently a Sprinter C.
I would not touch one no matter the price. Well, if I could resell it at a profit. No wait, I would not want to be a part of that concerning the next ignorant buyer.

RE: Washing your B.

Thanks Al.
You are driven ...........
Bud
Budj
What that means is that if you look at a car or RV hood after it has been rained upon and has been properly waxed, you will see large water droplets all over the hood.If the hood was not waxed since new, the hood is wet but has little or none of those large droplets everywhere. The wax coating is protecting the paint from many environmental factors. Ask any Detailing shop re this. Clearcoat on paint jobs is not good enough. You should always feel a friction-free feeling as you run your hand over the paint. Any grittiness is not good. I had a Mercedes for 18 years, waxed twice a year and it looked like new when I sold it. Hope that answers the question. 'Elbow grease' rocks when it comes to protecting your car' finish. My 2011 BMW528i has been completely waxed(Maguire's) 3 times already--by my son,of course!!
cheers

RE: Washing your B.

I have never waxed my RT in 11 years. Instead I buy soap/wax from Pep Boys and use that exclusivly. I also wash the top every time too. It does the job for me and people are surprised to think my rig is so old as it still looks good.
And the same kind thing happens with ordinary soap.
Waxing on modern vehicles is silly, imho.

RE: B Prices

Remember that all RVs are priced to accommodate a trade-in. If you don't have a trade-in, you should be able to get it for substantially less.
Huh?
Trade-in's are Trade-in's. The dealer needs/has to make a profit on BOTH the new OR used RV or whatever it is And the trade-in, fact.

RE: Update on newer RoadTrek Chevy Chassis & House Batteries

This is Bud.
Purchased an 05 Roadtrek 190P in January of 07, 2 years of service. Not sure when, had to purchase a new chassis battery about 2 years later from WalMart. The battery had probably not been used in quite awhile when I purchased it as the owner had died. The present battery is now 4 years old. I would guess that I may not get a lot of service out of it due to not keeping in well charged, but all is well now.
No options or modifications have been made that would affect the battery.
Again, it appears that only way to know how long one can go without charging is by experimenting. If purchased a new Roadtrek today, I would talk with Roadtrek directly. Then I would probably go say 10 days and see how it starts. Then 11, then 12..............

RE: Update on newer RoadTrek Chevy Chassis & House Batteries

Hi Bud,
Also, would be interesting if you contacted RoadTrek,
service@roadtrek.com see what they have to say and let us know.
Ron
Why don't you contact Roadtrek directly, instead of asking someone else to do it?
I have not asked anyone to contact Roadtrek Ron.
If some folks can go a month with no problem it says that Roadtrek/Chevrolet can do it for all. Me, I can go a month with no problem.
If there is an advantage to not being able to go a month, Roadtrek/Chevrolet should explain what it is.
But at this time, the only way to know how long you can go is by experimenting, with results varying widely.

RE: Update on newer RoadTrek Chevy Chassis & House Batteries

Hey Ron,
What does not add up is the Enormous Difference that folks experience. Makes you wonder what the heck is happening. Why?
Roadtrek/Chevrolet need to step up and address it, that simple.

RE: Update on newer RoadTrek Chevy Chassis & House Batteries

The information came to me in an E-mail from my RoadTrek dealer as I was having problems with my original chassis battery, a heavier duty battery was replaced by Chevrolet.
My dealer received the information from RoadTrek, as a 2011 RoadTrek owner was at my RoadTrek dealer and had problems with their chassis battery.
The source from RoadTrek is a reliable source, as far as I am concerned a top notch source, and know's what he is talking about.
Ron
Hello again Ron,
A Roadtrek Dealer is Not an authoritative source unless their quoting Roadtrek or Chevrolet, period.
Does this dealer have any other 'authortitive' credentials?
Thanks.

RE: How many miles where on your used B?

if its a sprinter?? its just broken in. if the other two brands its junk to me. next time looking at B.s watch how much more room there is for the driver in a sprinter .than ford or chevy and dodge.just my penny,s worth.
I don't agree. A Chevrolet Express Van is an Industrial Vehicle easily good for 200,000+ miles and more. I just traded a GM minivan with 206,000 miles that was very happy with Original spark plugs, spark wires, radiator hoses, ...........
Many B's have nice easy highway miles too.

RE: How many miles where on your used B?

This is a curiosity question?
When you bought your used Class B how many miles did it have on it?
I'm looking at one that has a 100k so I guess thats the reason for this question.
You'll receive all kind of answers, but the fact is:
There B's with 100,000 miles or so. May take awhile to find one that you want, or it could happen tomorrow.
Good luck, have fun looking.

RE: Washing your B.

I DON'T wax any vehicles. I do wash them to make them look better, NOT to make the paint last longer.
Today's paints like on my Chevrolet Express van with the clear coats are fantastic compared to when I grew up.
I have a big oblong brush with about a 5 foot handle to wash with. I don't wash the top as I can't see it.
