RE: Just Thinking aloude, Class A Toy hauler vs. TC

reading your situation I was wondering how much time do you spend inside the RV? Do you really need all the room a class A offers? I know when I go out I spend the late hours in the RV, then go to sleep. Morning have breakfast, then outside do my things all day. I had a 9 1/2' TC for 24 years, raised one child with it and never felt like I needed more room than what was there in the TC. I next went to a 22' class C which was slightly larger than a TC and still spent the same amount of time out of the RV. Then I went to a TT so I could drive around to see the sights, nice but really wasn't necessary. Then I went back to a 8' TC and still it met my needs. I did fall out of the overhead in the middle of the night while boondocking with my dog, no cell service, and waking up to sunlight and the dog barking and licking my face. Fortunately I was not seriously injured, no blood, no broken bones, just a sore back. I was lucky. My wife insisted that I no longer have an RV where I had to sleep in the overhead bed. So these days I am back to a class C. I am presently in Iowa at the Northstar factory visiting with Rex (the owner), we discussed building a custom flatbed TC, but since I am spoiled with the room I now have the TC would have been 15' long and 8' wide (would that still be a TC? Probably because I could remove it from the truck, but then that is too big for a TC, plus I would need to 'stretch' the frame on the truck, and on and on.
In summary, rethink your 'inside time' of the RV, do you really need 'bigger'

RE: Plywood X support

some great ideas here, but as usual storage of these items can be a problem. The X's fit flat under the camper on the bed and take up virtually no room and only add 3/4" to your total height.

RE: Plywood X support

I see that someone else has posted their X's so anyway here's the Budster boxes:

I have used them on somewhat uneven ground, had to excavate a shallow trench, no big deal.

RE: Who is cooking your father's day dinner?

Since I'm on the road by myself (wife is flying in soon) I went to the store and bought a rack of ribs, Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce, Bush's beans, mashed potatoes, bottle of Guinness (life is good) :S

RE: How to enjoy packing for a trip

Being retired I can take my time packing and unpacking. I start 2 days before the trip with a list and pack all the non-perishables. Turn the fridge on. Next day the perishables go in along with whatever clothes I might need and any specials for the trip. Day of the trip all I have to do is get in and drive. On return I unload the fridge, the next day everything else. I do have the camper preloaded with all the basics and just replenish them as needed. Now that I have a “smarter than me” phone I can make notes while I am camping on anything that needs to be done when I get home.

RE: Quartzsite AZ snowbirds - returning??

After 9 years in a row I am still going back. I love it there, some don't. Have a group that I go with and we make our own fun plus doing fun stuff in town. Each year there is always something different to see.

RE: Anaheim CA Rally, April 12-14, 2013

A really BIG thank you to Sarah for taking over and making this rally a success. I saw friends from previous rallies and met new ones this time, Our potlucks were a success and there was more than enough to eat. Thanks to the group for welcoming my friends John, Laura, Carolyn, and Tracy, they all had a great time.
For those of you that haven't been to Prado Regional Park it is a great place for a rally. The sites are far apart but yet close enough for visiting. There is a lake here if you want to fish, they rent paddle boats and you can go horse back riding.
Looking forward to next year where ever it is held.

RE: A warning for my BBQ'ing friends

Budster, wouldn't it be healthier to grill on a flat piece of steel for iron in the food? I heard to get rid of all teflon cookware so we did.
whatever works for you, that's why we all have lot's of choices, this works for me! Do it your own way and enjoy :W

RE: A warning for my BBQ'ing friends

I dont have to clean my grill anymore........... :C
I use a teflon/silicone sheet that I found at the RV show in Quartzsite, I was skeptical at first but some friends bought it and it worked great. You still get the grill marks on the food. It works great for fish as it doesn't stick. Grilling asparagus there is no fear of one falling through. Works great on onion slices. I could go on and on. I bought several and use them at home and on the road.
some links below:
this one can also be used as an oven mat
E-Bay has a bunch listed
more choices
let me google that for you

RE: Anaheim CA Rally, April 12-14, 2013

You cook it for two days??? Or do you cook for one and then let it "warm up" for a day in the fridge! :B :B
lot's of prep work, cut the meat, the onions, the garlic, the chilis, cook the next day (all day) warm up and serve the next day, let's all the flavors blend

Jerry...I thought that you had stopped having birthdays some time ago. Now if you were a tree, you'd just be working toward petrified status.
old is only in the mind
