RE: CA to Ruby's Inn Utah

Use the southern by-pass around Zion from Hurricane to Fredonia if you are still pulling the 45', and then north to Kanab and up to Panguitch and over to Ruby's. There are some neat arches you drive thru going east from Panguitch, but in Zion, the tunnels are going to be tight for a rig your size, and you'll "love" the switchbacks. The Park charges for your big rig, but let's the cars follow you, so if you get hung up, they are in the way. I would recommend you drive thru in the pickup though, it's worth it. We towed doubles (FW and Boat) thru there in 2002, it freaked the gate dude out!

RE: Anti-chucking pin box devices

I had a 5th Airborne on a WW CL 4005 TH that was extremely tongue heavy, and I pulled it with a Class 8 truck. Tore the pin box up without it, and after installing the 5th Airborne, noticed alot less chucking, and no problems since.

RE: 2008 WW Warrior Rear upper tail light out

The above would be the best way, otherwise, the inside wall panel that is above the top door opening has to be removed to access the back of the lights.

RE: Paiute Trail

Well if you can make it over the hill, don't forget to get a Koosharem Cafe burger. We are hitting Idaho for a month this year, Elk City, White Bird, Yellow Pine.

RE: Paiute Trail

Chris, they now have 60" trail down to Circleville on the east side, but if normal snow is on top, the 01 just below Manning Res. always has some big drifts in the way, and on the west side, from Big John's Flat up over the top may still be drifted in. You may be able to get to Kimberly, and north of the 70 and loop around into Richfield out of Marysvale, but there are still some high areas. Check out ATVUtah.com for the local perspective.

RE: Our new camping spot

Why not build your own pit toilet? Would save you finding cat holes dug all over, and if it gets out of hand, slide the building back to the house and cover up the hole. Maybe even make it a 25-50 cent coin pay. You could have a potential gold mine in the ground (pun intended)

RE: Evans Flat Campgound

Are you looking for single track or ATV? About 8 miles of dirt road to get from Greenhorn Summit south to Evans Flat. Not bad, but don't think it has been graded this year. There are some loops, but riding on Rancheria Rd is a no no, so it takes some doing to connect the dots out of Evans. Keysville BLM area down by Lake Isabella has some good camping areas, and you can loop the Black Gulch 4x4 road up to Evans and down either Bradshaw Ridge or the Borderline jeep trail back to Keysville. Borderline was getting pretty rough for ATV's, but bikes would love it. Several other nice one ways into the Kern River area, Freeway ridge and Greenhorn Creek Caves down by HWY 178. Also an out and back to Alder Creek and you used to be able to ride Sandy Creek fire road all the way over to Poso Park, however I think the MVU may have killed that one. There was an area just west and north of Evans Flat that I heard a week or so ago was closed because it was now a California Condor nesting area, and they are getting ready to do some logging up there that may impact some trails. Was good 2 weeks ago tho.

RE: fueling station (pump) question

Call GPI I did to attempt to order parts. They sent me new gears and cover plate. As warranty and I am way out of warranty. Did the same for me a few weeks back. That is what I call service!

RE: Repairing fuel station pump

If you have an RV8 or GPI pump, try loosening the 4 bolts that hold the pump gear cover on. Loosen them just a turn or two, so you don't leak gas, and then turn the motor on. If this is the first time it has quit, usually that will let you pump fuel. Then you better order some gears. I just talked to GPI last week because I tried the sanding trick that I read about on here, and must have taken too much off the gears, and they wouldn't work at all. Called GPI and they are shipping the repair kit out at no charge! I tried sanding the sides of the gear, but the swelling was causing more friction in the pump from the top of the gear teeth hitting the pump case and each other while meshing together, so when I tried sanding the top of the teeth for better fitment, I took off a smidge too much and it wouldn't pump at all. Unless your pump is way lower than your tank, you should only get a bit of gas that is in the line to leak out when you pull the cover. Mine pulls the fuel out of the top of the tank. If it wants to keep flowing, crimp the rubber suction line gently with some vice grips. http://www.gpi.net/fuel-products/Spares/

RE: Boondocking in Montana

Last year in Montana we were in the Gravelly Range of mtns to the east of Dillon, and south/west of Ennis,MT. The roads in the area would work fine for your rig, and there was numerous places to boondock. Be cautious of the area though as it is frequented by wolves and grizzly bears, so a clean camp is a must. I believe you would be in the Beaverhead/Deerlodge National Forest. There is a office in Ennis and Dillon depending which way you come from. It is not too far from West Yellowstone. You can access alot of the area off the highway as you follow it from West Yellowstone towards Ennis. The Madison River is well known for fly fishing.

RE: Fuel Tank Filler

Amen to that! Once filled my diesel pickup at a Mobil station with gas due to their green handles on the regular gas. Only takes once to learn to read the pump first!

RE: Fuel Tank Filler

If you are using the plastic cans with the hose on top, I bought a 3/4 to 1/2 inch pvc slip thread adapter and glued a 6" piece of 1/2" pvc pipe that fits the unleaded fuel opening. Screws on the end of the hose. If you want to be trick, make the 1/2" pipe with threads on the end, and you can cap it with a threaded pipe cap, and just leave it on the can. I always lose a funnel, or it gets dirt in it.

RE: Eastern Oregon Forest Service Campground

We had our three dogs. You do have to reserve your dates through recreation.gov but worth the effort. Elk City is also a great base camp, we left our vehicles there for a week, no problems.

RE: Eastern Oregon Forest Service Campground

When you get a chance to jeep the Magruder, be sure and spend a night or 2 at the Magruder Ranger Cabin. Use it as a base camp and do Hell's Half Acre Lookout and Paradise CG up the Selway River. Great fishing on the Selway, all catch and release. Elk City, ID or Conner, MT is the closest gas for over 100 miles. So much fun, we are doing it again in August as a loop of over 700 miles with only 30 miles of pavement.

RE: Suggestions For Camping Spots In Western WY

My vote would be South Pass City area, south west of Lander,WY. Lots of lakes and streams, very secluded with wide open areas and horse friendly. There is even a small lodge and cabins to the north, and tons of history and wagon trails in the area. North of Rock Springs off the 80. 42 32'41.18"N X 108 48'26.65"W

RE: King of Hammers Trip

I just got all the dents hammered out from the last time. I found out I can make it out on the front end only though.....
