RE: Charleston, Savannah, Willmington, in July, August?

Our daughter is attending college in Savannah and we chose to camp rather than stay in a hotel when we drove her down. We camped in our pop-up at Skidaway State Park. HUGE sites and a nice base for visiting Savannah and Tybee Island. Highly recommend the Crab Shack on Tybee for their fresh, delicious seafood. Tybee Island was a very nice day trip, the beach was beautiful and lots of wildlife to be seen along the way.

RE: When is a good time to go to Washing DC?

Though we have never camped and visited DC we live about 50 minutes away by Metro. Love going for the Cherry Blossoms in early April. Lots of info on line about it. Metro is a great and inexpensive way to get around. Yes it is crowded around the basin but hey it's a great time to experience our Nation's Capitol in all it's glory. Everything is within walking distance of the basin, just follow the crowds :B We have gone for the 4th as well and YES it was hot and steamy, I can remember people offering to buy the ice my husband had just gone and bought for our cooler (we had a picnic on the Capitol's lawn)LOL Really enjoyed ourselves and met people that came to be a part of our our Independence Day celebration from all over the world and from around our country as well! So many interesting and "free" things to see and do in DC. Enjoy your trip, just use common sense as you would in ANY major city. Nothing ventured, nothing gained...

RE: Favorite Savannah Georgia campgrounds

We stayed at Skidaway State Park a couple of weeks ago while getting our daughter set up in her dorm in Savannah. We really liked the park and the bathrooms were very clean, lots of hot water and water pressure was better than what we have here at my home lol All of the above is very important for a pop-up owner!

RE: franklin north carolina area

We stayed at Pride Resort last Fall for almost a week and had a wonderful time. Close enough to Maggie Valley, the wild elk, waterfalls galore within a nice drive etc. VERY clean bathrooms which is number one for us pop-up owners lol Some site are located on a stream or directly across from it which was nice and bubbly. They have a nice website as well that should answer all of your questions. Have a great trip!

Savannah/Tybee Island

Hey all just wanted to thank you for your sound advice for our trip to Savannah (to get our daughter set up in her dorm), we loved Skidaway State Park and camped there in our pop-up for 5 days. Tybee Island was awesome, we spent the day at the beach and had the BEST dinner at The Crab Shack !!!!! I cannot say enough good things about that place and their food.. BTW I have our receipt which is good for $3.00 off your next dine-in meal so it's up for grabs if anyone is going to be in the area before Oct. 13th, it expires then. Will be glad to send it your way, just private message me.

Sports Bar suggestions in Savannah/Tybee Island

Hi All... Leaving later tonight for Savannah (checking our daughter into her dorm at SCAD)we will be camping at Skidaway State Park. Looking for some suggestions of a sports bar or pub that will be showing the football games on Sunday. Hoping to catch Da Bears game Sunday night, I'm sure I will be the only person wearing a Devin Hester jersey in Savannah :C Thanks for your help!

RE: Assateague Island National Sea Shore

Nice pictures, glad you enjoyed yourself. We live on the Eastern Shore as well and I like to go there all year around on my days off just to walk around and enjoy the nature and trails. How bad were the mosquitos while you were there? The state park side has some nice sites right beside the dunes and you can hear the waves since the ocean is right there behind the dunes. Loop H I think has electric and those get booked up very quickly lol

RE: Maggie Valley

We stayed at Pride last October and had a wonderful time. The staff were as sweet and helpful as can be. The bathrooms were spotless which is very important to us since we have a pop-up. Great location too, able to see and experience so many things (hiking, waterfalls, shopping, the wild elk etc.).

RE: Bring a Salad

I love this salad and a little barley goes a long way that's for sure. I am also doing WW though I am doing the old Core currently known as SFF so all of these ingredients are "free" so to speak as long as ff. I had gotten this recipe off of the WW message boards last year. Enjoy
Barley Salad
1 cup barley
3 cups water
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
salt and black pepper to taste
1 cup grape tomatoes
1 cup peeled, diced cucumber
¼ cup fresh basil, chopped
½ cup diced red onion
Bring 3 cups water to a boil in a saucepan and remove from heat. Stir in barley and return to heat. Return to a boil, reduce heat and cover, simmering for 30-40 minutes. Barley will be done when it is tender, but still chewy. Drain remaining liquid and return the barley to the pan. Cover and allow the barley to steam, off the burner, for about 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, mix the olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt and pepper. When the barley has steamed, dress it with the olive oil mixture. (Dressing the grain while it is hot will allow it to absorb more of the vinaigrette.)
Refrigerate overnight, or until completely cool. Add grape tomatoes, cucumber, basil and red onion and toss. Adjust seasonings. I also throw in some black olives and reduced or ff feta cheese YUM !!!!!
Six servings, each serving providing one teaspoon of healthy oil.:C

RE: Roasted cauliflower for snacks

I pretty much do the same thing with asparagus, cauliflower, sliced zuchinni and brussel sprouts. Though I've never tried adding the lemon juice. Will have to try it that way as well. Great in the oven or on a roasting pan on the grill. :B

RE: Top 10 Portable Grills for 2009

We also have a blue Coleman Roadtrip grill and love it. I believe we have using it for 3 or 4 camping seasons now. Love the griddle on one side, comes in handy if the weather is bad and we cant cook on the open fire.
