RE: Awning Help

Well, the brackets that are screwed to the trailer at the roof line should be secure and tight. Loose screws usually means one of two things.....the wood behind the siding is rotting or the original install missed the frame work.

RE: Is Forest River Wildwood (Salem) really that bad?

Doh! temporary memory lapse.......in years past the LE was a poorly equipped version of the standard Wildwood stick frame. The new designations....LE is stick and aluminum, LA is aluminum framed & fiberglass sided. It is the X-lite that I wouldn't recommend!

RE: Is Forest River Wildwood (Salem) really that bad?

I can tell you that Wildwood customer support is NOT bad...contrary to what some have said here. In fact, I know the east coast Wildwood service rep fairly well and he takes good care of his dealers and customers. There is, however, no way for us to know how well your dealer will respond to your needs! As far as entry and mid line trailers go, the Wildwoods are as good as, if not better than, the others.(don't get an LE or LA though!)

RE: trailer allignment

Ok.....I have a little rv repair experience and am pretty sure of myself when I say this............. The ONLY thing a shim between the flange and backing plate is going to do is screw-up your brakes and cause the bearings to fail. The backing plate is ONLY for the brakes. The spindle is welded to the axle and the bearings must seat completely and squarely on the spindle for them to work properly! The ONLY way to align a trailer axle is to...A) bend it, or B) reposition the hangers on the trailer frame. There are places that will align (bend) trailer axles but, they are not right around every corner.....hard to find.

RE: I need some help!! :(

First, let me say that NOBODY extends the warranty after a repair. The original warranty period stands as written. However, the nature of the repair makes "signing off" pretty much useless. There is no way for you to know that the leaks are repaired until the unit is put back into service. I assume that was in the spring of this year, and you stored it for the previous winter? If the water system is the culprit, which I expect it is, and the water system had been winterized for the season, than you have a case that no manufacturer would want to have to argue in court! I don't think the manufacturer will ignore this. Give them a call, explain the situation, and see what takes place. If they hesitate, let them know you realy don't want to take legal action but, are prepared to if needed. Good luck! CT

RE: Trail Cruiser R vision

I can tell you from my experience as a service manager for a former r-vision dealer.......the company was so bad at following up on warranty that you are probably better off with a written statement of warranty from the dealer than you would have been if R-vision was still in biz and handeling it!

RE: duotherm furnace problem

Would be good to know the model of your furnace. I can help you better knowing that. With that said...thermocouples don't fail as often as pilot burner assy's get dirty. ENBLETHENs' suggestion about cleaning the pilot burner is excellent, and the first thing you should do. DO NOT try to force anything thru the pilot jet (oriface0. It is smaller in diameter than a human hair and if enlarged will make for an interestingly oversized pilot flame. I would suggest soaking it in a solvent and blowing it clean with compressed air. BrakeKleen is also a good product for cleaning burners. If the above steps don't work, ley me know and we'll move on to the next possibilities.

RE: are these good ideas?

I used spray-on bedliner on a small area of the keel on my boat. I beach it alot, so the aluminum was taking a beating there. Since the liner was sprayed on....no more scuffing the aluminum. It's great stuff. You folks may want to rethink the "out of level" thing though. Absorbtion refrigerators can be damaged by operating out of level. Short term damage is minimul but, over a long period of time you could end up with a problem that is quite expensive to repair. Most fridges have a 3deg front to back, and 6deg side to side tolerance level. Beyond that damage will start to occur where liquid pools at the low temp evaporator. If out of level, the liquid can't flow so it ends up burning the anti-corrosion products that are mixed with the coolant. (usualy sodium chromate) The stuff hardens and blocks the tubes causing failure of the cooling unit.

RE: HELP PLEASE! Inverter isn't working

Average charge from a truck alternator = 20amps. 1 80amp/hr deep cycle battery would be mostly charged in 4 hours. Agreed, a fuel hog but, certainly not without positive results considering the situation! Read my previous post....that should keep you up & running.

RE: HELP PLEASE! Inverter isn't working

Hi TAKASTONE. Sorry to read about your troubles.... The appliance in question is actually a CONVERTER. 120vac to 12vdc. Check your general purpose circuit breaker, if that is not tripped the converter has likely failed. If you can't get to an rv service center, a quick way to get back "on line" is to hook a 12v battery charger up to your aux batteries. Let them charge for 1/2 hour, or so, before you start using systems. Leaving the charger in place should keep you going until you can get the converter repaired. Good luck.

RE: 9 % campground tax-New Hampshire

KARL, KARL, KARL..... You must be talking about MA, AKA Taxachussets,LOL. NH has nice roads, lower gas prices than most of the south, and NH doesn't have much for taxes that would affect a tourist...until now. No Sales tax here. Rooms and meals tax is about all a tourist would pay and that's where they squeezed in the new 9% campsite tax. Of course if you've been to our mountains in winter, you may have been near that cold place you were talking about! :B Or, maybe you're one of those rebels that's still fighting the Civil War?

RE: 9 % campground tax-New Hampshire

Another case of double dipping.......the CG owner is already paying taxes on that land! What alot of you aren't aware of, is that some NH towns are taxing seasonals like they do mobile homes. Some trailer owners have challenged those taxes saying they have already paid taxes when they paid their registration fees.....they lost! Now, in some NH towns, seasonal people will be taxed when they pay their trailer registration, they will pay another town property tax, and they will pay state "rooms & meals" (land use) tax. all for 1 trailer on 1 campsite! Man, this is gonna really help an already strained RV industry!

RE: Hitch Pin Reminder

Had a situation here a few years ago. A customer called to tell me their trailer fell off the back of their truck while UNHOOKING at their home. The trailer rolled backwards, taking the ball mount completely out of the receiver on the truck. It seems one of my guys had removed the ball mount to readjust the height. When he put it back in, he neglected to insert the pin and clip. After setting up the weight distribution system there must have been enough tension in the reciever to hold the ball mount in place while towing. The customers drove almost 10 miles without the ball mount comming out of the receiver! It didn't come loose until he started jacking it up to unhook. I never would have believed it could happen but, the pin & clip were still on the shop workbench, my tech admited he forgot to put it in, and the customer swore he had no pin anywhere! I chocked that one up to a trip thru the Twilight Zone!

RE: truck tail gate for towing 5th wheels

Two of our delivery trucks have Custom Flows on them. Good fit, no hardware changes, and no rust...yet anyways. They are black powder coated steel, didn't paint them to match, but can be. I like 'em because they are center latch handle, unlike some of the ones I've seen with seperate side latches.

RE: Installing Solar Panels

18 watt panels will only produce about a 1.2 amp charge in full sun!! 3 of those is well within the specs of your controller. Consider this before you install them......3.6 amps, at full sun, would take about (depends on exactly which batteries you have) 60 hours to recharge a pair of your 6 volters! 60 hours of FULL, DIRECT, sunlight!!! Now figure out how many hours you will have of DIRECT sunlight and consider how many hours of indirect sunlight (solar panels will charge in indirect sunlight but at a lower rate) you will have daily. Then you have to take your usage into consideration! How much do you expect to draw off the batteries each day? All systems vary by location & weather of course, but I figure my 120 watt system (located in northern NH) charges an average 50 amp/hr per day during the summer. My panels are angled for optimum winter performance so I don't get as much as is possible in the summer months. If you are looking to maintain your batteries, and possibly some long term recharging, the three 18's are fine. If you are looking to replenish daily use while boondocking, you probably should consider a larger output panel....like a 80 or 100 watt. Good luck.

RE: Local dealer will not do waranty work on RV he did not sell

Traveling Menagerie... You really are misinformed!! It's not the hourly rate that's in question...it's the flat rate times they allow per job. For example.....you call me for a kitchen drawer that the track fell apart.......I get paid .1 hours for that repair. That's $8.00 in my shop. Now...you came in...tied me up (the service manager) to write the work order and get a tech on the job. He went and got your trailer and brought it to the work area. Now he goes in, diagnoses the problem and heads off to get the parts. Now he makes the repair, cleans up after himself, and brings your trailer back to you. I get the repair order, have you sign off, gather the defective parts, sit down and file a claim on the computer, package the defective parts and return them for credit. Total time involved....about one hour. Total amount paid....$8.00. Do you think I'm gonna stay in biz very long doing that? This is just one basic example but, it is typical of rv warranty. And I do have just a little inside knowledge about rv warranty issues.....I've been running an rv service dept for over 30 years.
