Ditto on The Lakes in Chowchilla. We used it as an overnite stop and really enjoyed it.

RE: SoCal Rally April 11 - 13, 2014

Thanks Cliff, you were the next one I was going to ask about it. Ive booked a week up there and then on to Lake Tahoe afterwards....decided not to take 395 this time and rather go up the 5/99 I guess.
I hate the 5.
If I'm going there, take the 99 to the 50 and then head east.
At Shingle Springs take N Shingle Rd.
It will become Lotus Rd.
Stay on it to 49.
Take the left and you'll cross the bridge and entrance to the park is on the right.
I'll send you a PM with some recommendations about the area.
We really like it up there.

RE: SoCal Rally April 11 - 13, 2014

Hey Ray or anyone else who may have been there....TT Ponderosa in Lotus, Ca? Thinking about going up there sometime next month and wondering what others have to say.
Absolutely love it.
Haven't been up in a few years, but for awhile, we were going up every year.
Spent time there, Also at Lake of the Springs and SnowFlower.
Tons to do in the area.

RE: southwest itinerary

There are a good number of them in Arizona.
Some of them were already listed by dbbls.
We do like both Tuzigoot and Montezuma's Castle (also Montezuma's Well, thought not listed on the Map that I will link.
Arizona Ruins
Any questions, feel free to PM me.
Also, if you're in that area, Jerome is a great place to spend a few hours roaming around.

RE: SoCal Rally April 11 - 13, 2014

I was watching as those RV's went up in flames one by one...I hope the owners werent watching. I think those RV's were parked off Old Conejo Road in Newbury Park near the Mobile Home Park. Lots of smoke but its all blowing toward the Ocean and North not inland.
Hi all. Know I haven't been around much, but a lot going on for Gerri and I. Can't commit to next years Rally though we would love to join all of our Rally Buddies. Hopefully things will sort out a little bit more and we can figure it out.
That RV Storage lot is actually over to the West of The Camarillo Springs Trailer park and a couple of streets over from the Golf Course.
My neighbor across the street's MIL lives there, and they used to store their 5th wheel over there. Since he got the Air Stream, he parks it alongside his house.
We were in San Diego from Thursday to Sunday for the Grandsons Wedding Shower.
Picked the RV up on Tues from the Storage lot at Mugu.
Before we left on Thursday, was over on Dawson getting propane and the smoke was really picking up and the 101 southbound was backed up all the way to there.
The Son's Wife's Grandparents own one of the units in the duplexs all the way on the west side of Camarillo Springs, and they were evacuated.
Base at Mugu was shut down Thurs afternoon, Friday and into Sat.
Was glad my RV wasn't in the storage lot, because it was hit or miss for awhile.
Great job by the fire fighters.
Could have been much much worse than it was.
Try to stick my head in every so often.

RE: Private Campground on the Beach in So. Calif?

The one across from El Capitan is Ocean Mesa.
I've never stayed there, but my neighbor across the street really likes it.
My boss has stayed there also and enjoyed it.
Another option would be Jalama Beach.
It is a Santa Barbara County Park.
Haven't been there for a couple of years, but great place right on the water.
My understanding is they are now taking reservations.
In the past they didn't, so you always needed to call and make sure they had room before making the trip back to the park.
If I think of any more, I'll let you know.

RE: The Skunk Train - Willits/Fort Bragg, CA

Been a lot of years since we rode the Skunk Train, but really enjoyed it.
Took the Round Trip from Fort Bragg to Willits and then back.
Fort Bragg is a neat little communtity to walk around also.

RE: California Beach Camping Suggestions

Another option is Jalama Beach Campground.
No reservations, but call before driving out.
Limited number of sites with electric, but can get on the waiting list.
Jalama Beach Campground
Could be tough to get into at the time but worth the try.
North of Santa Barbara and SW of Lompoc.

RE: Southern CA coastal area March

There are 3 campgrounds at Camp Pendleton.
One on the beach.
One near the water.
One on Lake O'Neil.
If you don't want to go that far South, you also have Point Mugu right on the water.
Any questions, let me know.

Haven't been on in a long time.
Saw this thread at the top.
Browsing it to check on friends and saw the news about Andy.
Ditto what everybody else has said.
Was a great Camping Buddy and sure him and Dave are setting around the campfire right now.
So hard to hear.

RE: RV Parks in/near Bakersfield, CA

I feel the same way about I-5 and there really aren't that many places to stay at distances you would like to stop.
Also agree with what sbishop said, but would make one more add.
99 will also work out along with 101 and 395.
Just depends are where you are going and how out of the way you want to go.
All of the 3 alternatives will take more time than I-5.
