RE: 2013 Ram tow ratings

My old '08 f450 tips the scale with a full tank of fuel around 9100lbs, , door jam sticker says right at 6,000lbs carrying capacity. A really big fiver, in the 25,000lb realm would easily exceed that rating. So I wonder what kind of trailer Dodge has in mind to reach those numbers. One item for sure would be a real big Grady White on a triple axle. Now that would be a nice dream.

RE: 2013 Ram tow ratings

What rear axle is Dodge using for the high weights of the 3500DRW trucks. And tires. At those weights advertised, I was wondering about the load placed on the rear tires and axle. A 22,500lb fiver put over 5200lbs pin weight on my trucks rear end.

RE: My trip to see the new Ram 3500HD DRW at Detroit Auto Show

I just thought of a terrific way to advertise the new Ram 3500. Give one to the pretty young lady on A&E's "Shipping Wars". Jennifer? That way we could see the big beautiful truck in action earning a living, see how it holds up. Oh, and the driver would be easy on the eyes, too ;)

RE: 08 Ford 6.4L Diesel

With an engine change out, it could as simple as a ground not secured causing the light to come on. It will probably be back, and next time I would leave it at the dealer until they sort out the issue.

RE: F450 PSD.. differential rebuild

I was wondering there when someone suggested pulling the rear cover off. Big Dana's do not have a removable cover.

RE: 2012 or 2013 Ram Dually?, Betwixt a dilemma

With your age, desire to retire soon, no issues with your current truck, and especially if it is paid for free and clear, the decision easy. Keep what you have. The country is in for a bumby road ahead, with many uncertanties. Prepare yourself, save as much as you can now while you can.

RE: 2014 Silverado/Sierra Info & Pics

All that wait and this is what is delivered? One word, "snore". The Chevy looks just as bad as the model it replaced. The new GM looks worse than the model it replaced. And that interior? Leftovers from the Cobalt mold? GM/Chevy cannot build a decent interior to save their butts.

RE: 2 million

I have been shopping for a nice trawler for future long trips out to the sound. Many of the boats I have been looking at are powered by 5.9 Cummins, usually rated from 325 to 425hp. Very nice package indeed. Unfortunately more and more builders are opting for Yanmars. I suspect cost is a driving factor. If I go with Cummins power, I suspect the engine will outlast me. It is too bad that Ford did not go with Cummins, neither 6.0 or the 6.4 ever gave me any problems but Cummins/Ford would have been an unbeatable combo, best truck fitted with the best engine.
But.. If that had been the case, Chrysler probably would have gone away a long time ago, GM may have exited the diesel pickup market. So maybe it is best that things have turned out the way they have.

RE: Newbie join here

If you want to keep your visits happy, NEVER mention what brand of truck you own, what type engine (gas, diesel) it has, ask what truck you should buy, As long as you adhere to those few issues, you will have a very happy time here. Welcome.

RE: 2 million

Imagine if Ford or GM had contracted with Cummins for the "B" series. Instead of 2 million, Cummins would probably be celebrating their 12 million engine production. Would have made the shareholders Happy, Happy, Happy.

RE: 2014 Chevy Silverado reveal this Thursday...

There is a good reason Ford builds those big cabs on the SuperDutys. Ford sells thousands of SuperDutys to businesses(well maybe not that many after Jan 1st)that depend on the truck's being able to carry 5-6 employees at a time. The current GM platform is crowded with 4, much less 6 full sized adults. Looking forward to seeing the new trucks. The market has been boring for a long time, be nice to have something new to look at.

RE: 2013 Motor Trend truck of the Year

It is kind of the manufacturers fault, with all the attention to fuel mileage. They put forth the best fuel mileage, and it obviously has to be the smallest engine package, same with all brands. That is an important factor for businesses, fuel mileage. With the upcoming tax hammer about to pound small businesses, if they can still afford to replace fleet vehicles, the small V-6 may be their only option.

RE: 2013 Motor Trend truck of the Year

I am going to take one for a test drive, curious about the air ride system. I remember Dodge had went with coils in the rear suspension, was there issues with the set up. I never heard of any complaints.

RE: Speaking of duallys

I saw that tool in use. While okay on steel wheels, I would not try it on aluminum wheels, especially the Alcoas on my truck. I will use the tips my student gave. It will be a fun Saturday morning project.

Speaking of duallys

Thought you might enjoy this short video. American inginuity. One of my students is a former Ford technician, he warned me about the difficulty of removing dually wheels, this is an indication of that.

I will be removing mine probably this weekend to check the brakes, clean the hub surfaces, wheels and apply antisieze to the contact surfaces. Might be real fun.

RE: New Dodge

Sorry, did not mean to downplay your purchase of the 2012. I have read so many good reports and seen pictures of the 2013's. Reports of large mileage increases, greater GVWR and GCWR, getting rid of the heavy EGR use, just lots of good reasons to wait. I myself am waiting for a new SuperDuty to become available, not just another rehash of the '99 model but an all new truck, maybe even a ECOboost V-8. Best of luck to you in retirement, I have another dozen years to get to the promise land.

RE: It's Mine!!!

How did I celebrate when the clear title came in the mail for the truck? I went and filled the tank up, all the way to the top and went for a long ride. Not having a car payment makes paying for fuel a little easier, oh and I bought real nice floor mats for the truck.

RE: New Dodge

NC, towing that heavy fiver, I would wait for the '13s. Have you seen the new front suspension? Looks like it was lifter from a SuperDuty. Control arms are massive compared to the scrawny arms Chrysler lifted off of the little Jeep Cherokee. If I could fit Urea injection to my long payed for F-450 I would, looking into water/methonal injection now for mileage improvements.
