I don't think it's a cracked screen. Before junking it you might check the ribbon connector between the motherboard and the LCD. It might just be loose or it needs to be replaced which on mine wasn't that hard to replace it.

Go to Wally World and buy a cheap external card reader and try that to see if it works. Do you have any other usb memory devices plugged in at the same time. Some devices always want to be called Drive "E" if you are using two of the same devices at the same time you cannot see one of them. There is a way to manual change the drive it wants to use.
