RE: RV camping at Lake Casitas Rec Area CA

We've stayed there a number of times in the Bass campground. It is a nice campground with lots to do in the summer, bike rentals, water park on the premisses. You can not swim in the lake as the water is used for local drinking water.
Be careful driving in and out as there entrance has a curved roof that you drive under, a few AC units has been abruptly removed when the driver wasn't paying attention.
Lots of fisherman get up fairly early 4:00 a.m to hit the water and some of them are a little noisy.

Aw fudge, maybe not

Just got back from four days in Yosemite and four more in Pismo Beach.
The first night we stayed at the Coarsegoald KOA because we wanted to be fresh heading in to Yosemite.
On the way out of the KOA they have a tight ninety degree turn followed by a very steep grade. I had the truck in second but as I rounded the bend with no head of steam the truck came to a complete stop.
I dropped it into first and while it climbed up the driveway it shuddered the whole length of the climb.
I was really worried I had screwed something up but my gauges didn't show any increased temperature and the truck worked fine the rest of the vacation.
The other truck with us a pwerstroke had the same experience climbing out of the KOA. Although it was a nice campground I won't chance it again.

Maybe that is what the driver was doing when the truck was a swaying?

RE: The Good Sam icon appearing on my posts....

I'm not sure if the opinion of removing the logo is a minority opinion but I would venture that if enough of us wrtite directly to GS they may consider removing the icon. Affinity is not in that good a financial situation, if they understand that a large and maybe growing portion of their income stream is unhappy they may reconsider.
And yes I watch Glen Beck, go to tax revolt t-parties, did not vote for the current president, and wonder what happened to the sac on Arnie. After all he was already wealthy and counld not be bought, I guess the unions found a different weakness.

RE: Opportunity or Joke?

I just don't understand the need for a Motorhome that floats? It makes as much sense to me as someone making and selling a bucket with holes in it.
At least they could have had the windows open and some fishing poles stuck through them.

RE: LPG Problem, Regulator or Switch-Over Valve?

Thank you both as you have given me more things to check that I wasn't aware of. I usually open the valves right up when I connect a refilled tank. In addition I have tried switching the change over valve manually and didn't see any change in the colored floated.

RE: Difference of temps for Mag-Hytec diff covers?

Had a Mag Hytec installed last week, right or wrong, I had it done. I had already installed the trans pan a year ago and have witnessed a reduction in driving temperatures and faster recovery or reduction of temperatures after a hard climb.

LPG Problem, Regulator or Switch-Over Valve?

Two tanks one street side one curb side, recently the street side tank doesn't start flowing when the curb side tanks empties. There is a pressure regulator immediately adjacent to the street side tank which I suspect is the issue but struggle as there are really no moving parts in the regulator, sure it can collapse but it is just three years old. I can switch tanks and have the same situation, which is not a suprise. Have any of you experienced this situation? What did you eventually find for a solutiion? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Tank Sensors & Reality

Thanks to a previous post I read I decided to perform my own experiment this last weekend.
It seems that our black tank would always show full by about the second day of camping, after blaming the wife and mother-in-law for camping out in the small room I finally decided to get an actual measurement of the tanks capacity.
The first thing I did was measured the amount of water the toilet bowl held per flush (about 1/2 gallon).
Next I started dumping and counting 5 gallon pails of water into the toilet to see when, when was really when.
At 30 gallons the tank indicators said "no more." Mind you the specifications on my trailer said I had a 40 gallon black tank, so on I went. I had dumped 50 gallons in the tank and still didn't see any water at the bottom of the horizontal pipe.
Concerned I'd have a puddle outside somewhere, didn't have, I decided to leave well enough alone in the knowledge that the trailer met and exceeded specifications.
Oh and I am leaving it my secret as far as the wife and Mom-in-law go.

RE: Differential Temperatures

Thanks all. Although I haven't had the opportunity to tow since installation (heading to Yosemite in a couple of weeks, up and over the grapevine)I am looking forward to reducing the temps. Flat land 20-30 minutes drive has given me about 160 degree reading.
I decided to make the swap due to the rusty cover as identified by one of you. I figured if the heat was enough to cook the paint of the cover I would be best to see what I could do.
I have had the tranny on a Mag Hytec for a couple of years and the highest temp was 240 when I came around a blind turn only to encounter a steep climb. I will say that as soon as I got to the top in about 2 minutes time the temp was back in the 180-200 degree range.
Some people may say I'm over reacting but I don't have nor would I want to spend the large $'s to repair something I can protect.

Differential Temperatures

Ok so I added the transmission and differential temperature gauges along with the appropriate Mag Hytec pans. While I have seen transmission temperature range sheets I have yet to find one for differentials? I am also interested to see how much the temperature will increase when under tow from the added weight. So far the temperatures (trans. & diff.) are pretty much a mirror image of each other.

Weber Baby Q Griddle

Has any one purchased one of the accessory griddles for the Baby Q. The Weber website describes them as enamel coated cast iron which sounds great. I just wanted to see how they actually perform. Do they take ofrever to warm up, what have you cooked on it and how did it turn out?
Thanks in advance for comments

RE: Norcold Refrigerator

Interesting I have the 811? Norcold and has experienced the same thing but I am getting a fast flash on both lights on the door which according to the manual indicates it is not able to find AC power. The unit works great on LPG. I unplugged the shore power as suggested below because I know sometime with electronic items that will reset the system. Plugged it back in and it worked great on AC until we left to go to a campground where as soon as I hooked up I got the fast flash and the unit switched to LPG.

RE: Pot Luck "Duck"

As the OP I wanted to provide something that one of our group, not the "Duck" found on-line. Enjoy and hopefully we all found some form of answer to the puzzling question or at least could recall and similar experience and smile. This couple of ours will no doubt continue to go with the group as it was they left a day ahead of weveryone else and we all had a few chuckles at theri expense. All and all I guess we're even.
Potluck etiquette
I do enjoy a good potluck, but it is a quirky experience for the gourmand. By definition, you never know exactly what you're going to get. If your pot has some luck, you won't end up with 15 potato salads and one liter of Pepsi. Smarter potluck hosts take a little luck out of the equation by assigning courses to attendees.
But just assigning people a course still results in a hodgepodge of selections that may not mix well. On Thursday, we had a potluck at work and I had barbecue sauce running into my chicken enchiladas and green goddess dressing dripping onto my egg roll. I love a variety of ethnic foods but not necessarily all mixed on the same plate. Chefs give a lot of thought to how foods go together. There's a reason you can't order sashimi at Olive Garden and you can't get pepperoni pizza with your udon noodles.
I can get over that, but as the potluck season continues in full gear, we should all heed the following rules of potluck etiquette:
1. Bring your own serving utensils. Nothing is worse than stalling a potluck buffet line while guests have to serve their own soup with a plastic teaspoon because you didn't bring a ladle. Don't expect that the host will have one for you.
2. Your dish should be ready to serve. At a potluck I attended this week, someone brought a bone-in ham but offered no assistance in divvying it up. Without a knife and a serving fork, it sat at the buffet table untouched, like a centerpiece to give homage to carnivorous living without actually facilitating its occurrence.
3. If you don't cook, you have two choices: (1) Don't come to the party, or (2) offer to handle other non-edible necessities like cups, napkins and plates. And one or two guests who are particularly kitchen-phobic get to bring the beverages. Bringing a bag of potato chips is not an option. At a potluck buffet, I regard store-bought items as if they were parsley sprigs--pretty adornments that are not actually meant for eating. Thanks for adding some color to the table.
4. If you are going to be a little late, bring a dessert. If you're going to be really late, don't bother coming. On Thursday, some poor sap showed up after everyone had already been through the buffet line once or twice. Everything would have been fine if he had brought in a homemade cheesecake, but he brought an appetizer. And as an added infraction, the appetizer was a cheese and cracker plate from the grocery store. As he was tearing open a plastic packet of cheddar cheese blocks, I wondered if he really expected everyone to jump up and come back to the buffet table for another round.
5. Avoid poisoning other guests--it's very uncouth. Use proper hygiene when preparing food, especially with meat. Keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold. Bring your own Crock Pot, chafing dish or other warmer. Use ice to keep cold dishes cold. True, with the multitude of dishes, it's not likely that you will be fingered as the culprit, but don't push your luck.

RE: Pot Luck "Duck"

I like the idea about drawing assignments. It is a simple yet seems like effective idea.
In reading my original post I can see my message may have come off rather dark or greater then thou, that certainly wasn't the intent.
I appreciate all the your ideas you've shared. Thanks.

Pot Luck "Duck"

Okay gang I'm not quite sure how to handle this one and thought what better group to ask.
A bunch of us go camping on a regualr basis maybe once a month. In most cases we are usuall 6-10 RV's. To make things more fun we have been pot-lucking meals as you get a wider variety and it is generally easier then making an entire meal for two.
My rub is we have one couple who is a few years older that "if" they bring something to contribute it is generally expired pastries with a line drawn through the price or a simple lettuce and dressing salad. Having had parents and grandparents who had lived through the great depression I am aware that as we get older we are a little worried about having enough money to live on. In this case we happen to live right next door as well and I don't get any indication that they are destitute.
The real issue for me is besides them not bringing food, their having to be first in line and always taking the biggest steaks they, especially she likes to tell everyone how well they are doing financially, big investors, lots of property always looking for forclosed homes, etc.
My opinion is to pull the husband aside express my and just about the entire groups impression and suggest they put up or shut up. To that my wife tells me that I am going to hell.
What would you do?
