RE: Problems with Good Sam's Roadside Assistance

Hello Charolaisbreeders,
Thank you for posing your concerns with Platinum Roadside Assistance. I have sent you a private message if you would to discuss the coverages of your program more. Please do keep in mind that as the Benefits Brochure says we will take you to the closest certified repair center that is capable of fixing your vehicle. Any place beyond that distance we will still tow but at your expense.
Wes Robinson
Marcus' Rapid Response Team
goodsamcs@goodsamfamily.com
Wes,
I will contact you in the next 48 hours after I get over the pain caused by traveling to AAMCO, handling the paperwork and having AAMCO's Contract Towing company handle this tow. This has caused my inherited disease to now act up because of the upset caused by Good Sam's FINE PRINT!! I will tell you one question you will have to answer - if Alfa insurance sends my vehicle to a "certified" repair shop of their choosing and then trouble occurs they pay ALL CHARGES TO MAKE IT RIGHT - DOES GOOD SAMS?????
I'll be in contact when I can talk and not the meds I am heading to take.
Thanks for contacting me and rest assured we will talk.

RE: Problems with Good Sam's Roadside Assistance

After reading your message I looked up the member brochure on line. Unfortunately for you and I, Roadside Assistance did exactly what's in the brochure. I don't know if they have a plan that would tow you to any place of your choice but I think I read somewhere they are working on a plan with that benefit.
My problem is that this is a transmission and I would consider that a Nationwide Roadside service would use the nearest NATIONAL WARRANTY TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP - NOT A SHADE TREE SERVICE! That is what I understood when reading it and hearing from others with Class A that needed Caterpillar or Onan service - they get towed to the nearest name brand shop!! Again the little guy gets the ___________!

Problems with Good Sam's Roadside Assistance

We found out this morning that our Platinum Roadside Assistance is not worth what we are paying. We had a transmission fail on my wife's
Chevy pickup truck. The nearest national chain transmission company was an AAMCO dealer in Anniston Alabama - Good Sam's showed a "off brand" local repair shop they would take it to but to get it to a full nationwide transmission company with nationwide warranty was going to cost us another $66 dollars as the AAMCO dealer was 16.6 miles further away from this shade tree mechanic shop!! I expected more from the PLATINUM SERVICE THEN THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't hear of them hauling the Class A's to the nearest private diesel shops, all of them get taken to the brand of engine shop they have but we are to accept a shade tree mechanic with no national warranty on my wife's truck.
I doubt if I will be renewing this service when it expires - I'll extend the one Jayco has on the trailer and go back to roadside service with my insurance company.

Alabama Fall Samboree - Praises to Camping World

Dear Marcus,
I am writing this from the fall Alabama Samboree at C&C Campground in Lincoln Alabama. Camping World of Calera is one of the sponsors and vendors. You have had Linda Poole, General Manager and Derwood and Janie Landreth, Goodwill Ambassadors that have not only been excellent representatives for Camping World but have gone above and beyond! Linda found out a number of us were needing specific items/parts and as we are so near the store and apparently her home she took it on herself to make a list of our needs and pick them up at the store the next morning to bring to specific attendees (myself included).
The display booth was well stocked with reasonable pricing and they have kept it stocked and all three have been excellent in helping but being able to get a specific part that would not have been packed on the truck as a "normal" use item has meant a lot to a number of us. Linda did not have to do this and the Landreth's did not have to help her get these items in and sorted each morning but they have done it with smiles while we waited and lined up for what we needed. You have had excellent representation from these three people and the young man that drove the delivery truck Wed afternoon. We are quick to complain but this is the time to let you know they have gone beyond the call of duty and made a whole Samboree happy! Just wish you could have been here to enjoy it with us!

RE: How to get handicapped plackert copied or registered

Same for us here in Alabama. There is a form online at the DMV site you print off, fill in and take to DR. to sign. You then take it to your County tag location and can get either a tag or 2 hanging placards for free - good for 5 years and we can renew them by signing an affidavit we are still disabled when it runs out at the County office. Last campground we used with our club was a State Park and we took the placard in and showed it to them and got something like a 15% discount when they don't give any other discounts that I know of at the State parks. I am sure NC has a similar system.

RE: New Calera Ala CW not open and no hours on door!!

No Camping World is open that early on a Sunday morning. Im seeing a pattern with you guys.
Don't know what pattern you are seeing, I cannot remember in years not seeing store hours posted on the front of a store and if I need supplies for the farm on Sunday my local Tractor Supply is open by 9 am on Sunday. Auto parts stores open even earlier so to stop by to see if the store was open was in my opinion very reasonable, I won't waste my time stopping again as I have no idea what their hours are with no posted hours and with their own billboards and signs not giving proper directions to the store!

New Calera Ala CW not open and no hours on door!!

The wife and I were coming back from a fun weekend of camping this weekend with one of our local GS clubs. We realized we were going to be exiting one exit prior to the one where the new CW was relocated outside of Calera, AL. We had not seen the store since they moved it from Anniston, AL this year. We shop a lot in Anniston so wanted to see if the store was any "bigger or better" after the move, plus we just needed to stop and get out and stretch our legs before making the final run to the farm and figured we could look around for some items to decorate and dress up the new Jayco. First there were billboards on I65 telling us to exit and turn left and then left and we actually saw Camping world from the Interstate so we exit and make 2 lefts. Then we missed the actual turn onto the access road as there is no sign showing a third left onto an access road to get to CW. We had to finally turn around pulling our camper and go back to find the access road. Got to camping world and it was closed and locked up tight. Granted this was a Sunday morning a little after 9:00 am but we both of us remember shopping the store on Sundays when it was in Anniston. The real kicker was that there was no posted hours on the door or front of the store so we have no idea if we are traveling back in that area if we need to bother pulling off the interstate or not!!! Guess I'll just keep buying what I have to have online and we won't be browsing the store location to look for items that we don't "need" but could be nice in the camper! Not knowing what their hours are as they just don't post any signage showing their hours I won't waste my time stopping again! I can't ever remember not seeing the store hours posted on a Walmart store door!

RE: Not getting item out of stock till after order placed!

Neal,
I have not seen this unit yet! Per your previous message it should have been here yesterday. Can you update me on what we have happening?? I left you a private message yesterday asking for the shipping information and did not get an answer from anyone nor does the order status show any shipping/tracking info.
Thanks
Wilford
Hi Charolaisbreeders, we do our very best to give real time information regarding our stock situation on the website. Your order was received at 2:05 on Saturday. Our last inventory update showed over 10 units on hand as of 11 AM central time that same day in our East Coast distribution center. However, due to order demand in the queue along with our call center receiving orders at the same time, those units were sold. There was a timing issue involved with us being able to accurately display a message to you notifying you of the stock situation. We're going to take care of you right away. One of my staff is on his way right now over to the retail store here in Bowling Green because we show that they have 4 of these on the shelf. We will in turn overnight you the flush king so that you should have it tomorrow.
Happy Shopping, and Happy Flushing!

RE: Not getting item out of stock till after order placed!

Thank you Neal for explaining the situation and for taking care of the problem. I would say only that even with the ordering as you pointed out other companies do not have these problems in showing what is on stock, you may need to look into an update to your computer system/software. It is very frustrating when needing an item to place an order this soon after the sale is supposed to start and it showing in stock and then later being informed it is not available. As I said, this is a common problem - I have just cancelled orders before or stopped them when I saw a problem occurring.
Thanks again for your help.

RE: Not getting item out of stock till after order placed!

Alabama has some very specific consumer protection laws concerning retail stores advertising sales and the stock they must have on hand based on previous sales, etc. - they must schedule the stock to be on hand based on the printer schedule I know for a fact. As I stated I will have to investigate if this applies to internet orders when stores are located in the state and they are collecting state taxes on the internet orders.
The ebay listing is far higher then the member smile and save pricing when you add in shipping. Thanks anyway, I still would like to hear from Camping World Officials or Marcus how this "OUT OF STOCK" keeps happening on almost every sale item I try to buy and even many non-sale items.

RE: Not getting item out of stock till after order placed!

As I went public on this complaint I am going to stay public. I AM ASKING NO DEMANDING AN EXPLANATION FROM MARCUS OR HIS OFFICIALS AS TO WHY THEY DID NOT SHOW THIS OUT OF STOCK AND THEN SEND OUT AN EMAIL LIKE THIS WHEN I ORDERED THE PRODUCT ABOUT NOON ON THIS ITEM WHEN THE SALE STARTED SATURDAY MORNING!!! I am firmly believing they did not have stock for this item to go on sale and should have pulled the email - in fact Alabama has laws on the stores for this type of action and I may need to contact the state officials and see if the laws apply to mail order / internet orders.

Not getting item out of stock till after order placed!

I hate to complain but this is the second order in a row that Camping World has taken from me and not let me know in the confirmation email or on the item page that it is out of stock. I got the Smile and Save email on Friday night for this weekend only sale and ordered a true Flush King about noon Saturday. I got confirmation on the order showing everything was fine, now today it is showing back ordered till AUGUST 14TH. I needed to wash out a tank NEXT WEEK to get ready for a Good Sam Trip. I know lots of companies that can tell you instantly when you go to look up an item what the stock is on that item. Last order it was they had to ship from the Manufacturer and they expected 3 weeks for delivery. I am really starting to wonder why I am trying to deal with the online system when they keep doing this to me. I am going to get the wife to check later but I would bet money they have already charged my card! I'll update you on that!!

RE: Black tank will not dump and I'm at a site for 3 days!

While you are waiting on Amazon delivery - run to Wally world and buy a box of RidX like goes in septic tanks and dump full box down toilet. Had to do this on our first used unit and let it sit for about 2 weeks to get things cleaned out where previous owners had not cared for black tank properly.

RE: Black tank will not dump and I'm at a site for 3 days!

Some years back we bought a 1995 Coachman that black tank had been severely neglected. Until I could get ridX to sit in in long enough at home to break things loose and then keep a treatment in tank while camping and recharge at home that contained a soap type lubricant for the valve and enzyme for breakdown I had to put a 16 inch crescent wrench on handle and rap the wrench with a hammer to open valve. You have to be careful as you can see this could break the handle totally off but it was a last resort. Mine had a solid rod from handle to valve so I have not used this on the cable type. I know on equipment here on the farm I keep that type of cable sprayed with WD40 if stuck and then keep them sprayed with silicone to prevent sticking. Sounds more like you have solids set up in tank that have locked the valve.
Don't be ashamed - this type thing happens and if you work on it during the day you might find some real help from fellow campers! Good luck!

RE: Question

After reading all of the posts I have to agree with the original posting. I have often wondered why members did not have a topic area where such things as Samborees, Rallies, Local Club Issues could be discussed without the bashing of non-members. These would be topics and issues of interest only to active members and such things as the sharing of information between local clubs on activities that work, etc. would be of no help to a someone that is not a member of GS.
I have to applaud wbwood for bringing up an issue that many object to but I too can see a real use for it. I actually came onto this forum through GS several times before posting as I wondered if the link had been hijacked.

RE: Standby Sam - Who has been called?

We joined just a few months ago and the month after we joined I was emailed wanting info on campgrounds and off the beaten path places to see in our part of the state. Glad to answer and they responded they liked several suggestions I gave them. I believe the easier it is to find on the web and the new smart phone app - even tho I am technically behind and still have a dumb phone - will help! (Hopefully by next year when our contract runs out they will have a smart phone that works on push to talk radio we need on the farm, right now service provider does not have one.)

RE: Slow Down! (Tennessee - I65 Accident)

mister d - when I look at the article and picture you linked I can see that this TT was a Jayco and I believe a JayFlight but the television name covers all the other TT markings. Were you able to see if this was one of the single axle design TT's? With years of pulling all types of trailers I know single axles are much less stable then double and have had some worries about how large the lightweight single axle units are being made. We looked in some of the single axle trailers when we bought our Jayco 264BH just out of curiosity a few months back and I would not have wanted to pull them.

RE: A Challenge!

X2 - We signed up a few months ago and within 30 days had another camper asking us to give them ideas for places to see off the beaten path in our part of the state when they travel through. I was glad to do it for them and made several suggestions they liked. It can be more then just helping someone broken down, letting them know good campgrounds and places to visit in your area that are not the usual "tourist" spots can be a real part of it.
The more Standby Sams we get the more our members will know to call if they need help or info.

RE: Distrabution Hitch and brake controller

Had that same hitch with the Coachman we sold a few months back when we bought the Jayco. Sold that hitch with the Coachman and bought Equalizer with Jayco. Only way to adjust is by chain links. Park on flat ground, measure front and back wheel well with chain in X link. Then change links to Y on both arms and measure again - you can get close, just slow.
I have used Voyagers for years on the farm with my stock trailers and never a problem, even used one on the Coachman. Latest truck got one of the newer models (forget exact name but it had lots more features such as surge braking when you first hit the brakes). Sounds like the truck easy hook up does not have the wire that needs to tie into the brake light wire hooked up correctly. You may need to get under dash and find which wire (IIRC it is blue but check instructions) and cut it free from the plug and run a wire to brake wire coming off of brake switch on pedal. That should clear up problem. Voyager has been around a long time - I have one that was installed in 1997 and another truck that had one installed in 1998 - it has been a dependable work horse unit but may be getting out of date with the new plug in wiring. Used to know the wiring diagram and could install one for someone in a matter of an hour running all the wires and mounting - took me longer then that on this new one with the wiring harness finding the right plug - Ford had it well hidden!!!

RE: Advice on plugging into house outlet

The roof our TT parks under is next to my farm shop. I wired a separate outdoor plug, 30 amp circuit where with just an adapter plug TT has it's own service. New Jayco is the 2nd TT that has used this plug and had no problems running complete TT including AC. I would advise just having a plug on a separate service wired for it if you have the service available from your house box ( or like in my case a shop service).
