RE: New to the site

Congrats and welcome! Wish mine would fit in the garage.

RE: Backup Camera

Awesome! Just what I was looking for - portable too! Thanks Chromag! Any time! It's not too pricey either. It comes with a car charger to charge both the camera and screen. You can buy this AC charger for it for $16. It's cool too because it reverses the screen for you so it's not confusing when backing up (you can toggle this feature on and off).

RE: Backup Camera

I have one of these and it works great. The camera has a magnetic base and the screen is portable and wireless. When done hitching up I put it back in the included bag in the center console. My wife helps me hitching up but this just makes it a lot easier. Switch Hitch Around $200 on Amazon.

RE: Careless driving caused this accident

My son thought it wasn't loaded properly. I didn't hear anything about the snow being a factor. Mike said the driver was talking on his cell phone, not sure if that was true or not. Wow - talking on a cell phone is bad enough, but while towing? Yikes. If my phone rings while towing I won't even look at it to see who is calling much less answer it. Glad everyone was OK.

RE: Bathroom Light Switch?

I had the same exact problem in the bathroom and ordered a replacement Starlights BL 3003 LED fixture with a BL 3007 (adapter to allow use of modules) & BL 3006 (motion detector module). After I received it, I left the original light (tapped into its wires to power the new one) and mounted the new one closer to the sink for better light there. Now we rarely use the original light and the motion sensor one works great. If we leave the bathroom door open, it even turns on when we come into the trailer from outside. It is available with incandest bulbs (BL 3001) and other modules (dimmer, day/night sensor, and nightlight) also. I have no ties to the company, just listing an option that works well for me. Awesome! That's exactly the type of thing I was looking for. I'll definitely look into that. Thanks.

RE: This weekend was horrable

Pfft. Be happy! We camped at Disney this weekend and there was a cold front and at night it was down into the 30's!

RE: Careless driving caused this accident

It sounds like a really bad snow storm. The same could have happened with a vehicle towing nothing (as far as flipping and an accident, that is). Also, I see no snow in the original post? I guess that wasn't a contributing factor?

RE: Hitch package from RV dealer

I got lucky. My dealer was charging me around $800 for the BXW1500 with install. But I ended up renegotiating the TT price at the last minute (thanks to input by people here). After renegotiation and sitting down for a second time with the finance guy I asked about the WD hitch install and he told me to just "see what happens." Turns out it was already on the paperwork from the original negotiation. After we reworked the price and made the sale they installed it. Not sure it was really ethical but the finance guy seemed to be fine with it, so.

RE: Have you used this water filter?

I use one of those in combination with one of these: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31UK5WGloQL.jpg Two filters may be a bit much bit it works for us. It also allows me to use two hoses for those times when the water hookup is a bit far from the back of our TT.

Bathroom Light Switch?

I've got a Crossroads Z-1 and it has the "pancake" style lights. They all have switches on the light fixture itself. That works fine for us that are tall enough to reach it but I have two kids that are definitely not. I just bought a cheap battery powered LED night light with a motion sensor. It does what I need, but I wondered if there was any RV technology like some mod to the existing fixture or replacement fixtures to remedy this? Maybe a nice little wireless switch I could mount next to the door that turns the fixture on/off, etc?

RE: LED Replacement Bulbs

I find most prefer warm white over bright white. Yep - I bought a really cheap set of 4 LED bulbs as a test to put in a couple of my overhead lights in the main living area. They're the cylindrical type with the LED's going all the way around. I was mostly concerned with the amount of heat the stock bulbs were producing. They are so dim and have this horrid blue tint! But if I mix it with the stock lights it's not as bad. I really need to find some of the warm white ones.

RE: Another 1/2 ton question

There is a friend of mine who has a similar truck but stated there is a max payload you can add that takes the payload from 1600pds to a little over 1900pds. I would not say it would be a huge $ factory add and may be worth looking into. 400pds does not sound like a lot but it really would be nice to have. Not sure if it exist, have never looked as my 2011 will do me for a few years yet and looking for me only leads me to wanting which leads me to buying.... Funny you say that. There was a sticker on the window that stated that it actually had a 1900 lb payload, but the Ram website says 1600. I wasn't sure why there was a difference. I didn't think to check the sticker inside the door.

RE: Another 1/2 ton question

I had similar questions about a 1/2 ton. I know most prefer a 3/4. My Z-1 weighs in at 5700 dry and 7700 gvwr. We're currently towing with an Armada and it does a fine job as long as I don't have to go up any hills (in Florida there aren't a lot of those). It has over 100k miles on it, my wife likes it (it's her every day driver), and I can only imagine that continuing to tow with it will wear on it even more. I'm thinking of buying a 2013 Ram 1500 crew cab, 5.8L hemi v8, 3.92 axle, 10,200 lb max towing capacity, 1,600 lb payload. The 2500 with similar options is a lot more money than the 1500. Glad this thread was posted! Some great info so far.

RE: drill for stab jacks

I use a Black and Decker 20v drill with Lithium Ion battery, LED work light, and clutch. You can pick one up from Amazon for around $75. Oh, and a Camco stabilizer jack socket is about $5.

RE: Stinky Furnace

Had the same smell with mine a couple weeks ago. It was the first time I'd ever used the furnace. It actually set off the smoke alarm (freaked out the kids). I ended up going without and I ran the furnace for an hour or so the next day with all the windows and doors open hoping it would burn off anything that was causing a problem.

RE: Double bunk bed layouts

We've had our Crossroads Z-1 271-BH for about 5 months now and we love it. The kids love the bunks in the back. http://www.crossroadsrv.com/images/product/ZT271BH.jpg

RE: Question about A/C

I like it cool. When we leave for whatever activities I tend to turn the AC down to 68 degrees so it's nice and cool when we get back. We're in Florida so it's hot - not dry Arizona heat, but hot. Even when it's in the 90's she's turning the AC up to 72 or 74 and covering up with a blanket. Our TT is technically 28.8ft with a full slide and I can easily freeze her out. This is when we're hooked up to a 30amp CG outlet though.

RE: Magic Water

We discovered that water had been coming in from around the two top amber running lights and following the front of the trailer down to a seam that runs horizontally across the inside of the trailer. The seams in both wardrobes was wet. There is a roof seam that runs across the bedroom area over the puddle (sort of, not directly). I ran my hand across the seam and roof and didn't feel any dampness.

RE: Magic Water

With all that being said... It's new. Take it to the dealer and let them worry about it. Tracing mystery leaks sucks sometimes. Yeah I'm going to wait until we get a much more serious rain storm so I can check it out and see if I can actually see where the leak is. Either that or at least snap a better pic. But if I see any more water I'm taking it back to them and letting them deal with it. Look up! :B Do you have ducted air conditioning? If so, Is this vent right above that water spot? I have only experienced 'this' SINCE being in Florida's high humidity. AND the humidity quadruples after it rains. The AC vent is on the other side of the bedroom. There isn't anything directly over the puddle. Somehow leaking around the window seems like the most likely culprit. Possibly the evidence is drying up before I get there and all I see is the puddle. Do you have water hose connected to a outside faucet, and is the water left on? The trailer is new and may have a loose pipe connection. Water may being leaking und the carpet and showed up first in that spot. We don't have any electric or water hook ups at the storage lot. We always turn off the water pump when we leave it.

RE: Magic Water

It's hard to tell from the photo where that is in the camper. I can tell you that when our Zinger was brand new last year, I had a small puddle of water on the night stand next to the bed after a day of constant rain. The night stand is in the corner of the front and side wall of the trailer. It's between the bed and the wall near the window on the slide side of the TT. The top of the photo is the carpeted night stand. I'll take a closer look on the outside to see if I notice anything. Thanks.
