RE: Small Dog Health Issues

Bonefish, Fortunately, we never did have a neck collar on our chis. but unfortunately, Ricky still got the collapsed trachea. Any neck collar is bad as a dog will take off and that pulls on their throat. I am not sure why smaller dogs are more prone to it but it is what it is. I am just glad that we are able to afford (although it is pushing it) to help him.

Proud Moment

Our son in law has really changed from the 16 year old boy, our daughter brought home back in 1995. We are of course very proud of Michael. ADHD

RE: Small Dog Health Issues

Susan, the funny thing about our Chihuahuas is the smallest one is fine. Desi Lu is 5 lbs. Ricky and Lucy are close to 10 lbs each. I am not sure what causes the bronchitis but Vet said it was very common in small dogs and according to the internet, I guess that is true.

RE: Small Dog Health Issues

One other thing, Vet said we are not giving up on Ricky. He will change the meds if the bronchial meds don't work but like he said, we are very far away from making any drastic decisions.

RE: Small Dog Health Issues

Thank you everyone. We went by the Vets today because after paying $775.50 last Friday, I realized that they forgot to charge us for the Heartgard to prevent heartworms. While paying the clerk, we talked to Dr. and he decided to increase the pain medication for Ricky so that he could sleep better. He was so surprised by us catching the charges we owed that he didn't charge us for the medication on purpose.

RE: Keep an eye on those collars folks....

Just as an FYI, some dogs, particularly smaller dogs have a tendency towards collapsed trachea so it is advised to never use a collar on these dogs. It causes too much pressure on the trachea.

Small Dog Health Issues

Last week, we took our 3 Chihuahuas in to get their yearly checkups and shots. Ricky and Lucy have been panting but I never thought it was serious. It turns out Ricky has bronchitis, an enlarged heart and a collapsed trachea. Lucy has bronchitis and an enlarged heart. Desi Lu is fine. It is so hard to watch them suffer like this but we are hoping the medications will help. Ricky is the worse, what we thought was just snorting is the collapsed trachea. Turns out is rather common for small dogs to get bronchitis and a collapsed trachea. So, if your small dog is snorting like a pig or constantly panting, please check with your vet as soon as possible. Also, NO COLLARS. The collar puts pressure on the trachea which can also cause it to collapse. The Vet said that nothing will reverse the enlarged heart and it is due to the bronchitis. Both dogs are on meds for the bronchitis and Ricky is also on cough medicine but nothing will reverse the trachea except for surgery which is a bit scary due to his small size and age.

RE: campgrounds to stay away from?

Sunshine Key RV Resort and Marina. It used to be a nice place and I have heard that it isn't bad during the winter months. We made the mistake of going there during the summer. It is a real mess now. The sites are close and full of less than desirables. Loud music, refrigerators outside of almost every camper, makeshift walls for privacy, beer bottles everywhere, kids and dogs running lose, name anything you don't won't to see at a RV park and it is there. They charge like they are a deluxe RV Resort and look like a low class trailer park.

RE: Ever suggest a restaurant for Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives

Yesterday, we went to Danny's All American Diner and again enjoyed the meal. Danny came out to talk to the customers and we had our picture taken with him. We took some friends with us and they also enjoyed the cuban sandwich and the burgers. My dh and I often went to this place long before it was on the tv show. In fact, I emailed the showa few years ago and it seems that many other people did as well. The show gets recommendations from patrons and some are right on and others not so much. How many times have you gone to a restaurant suggested bya friend and found it not to your liking? Take it all with a grain of salt, but never pass up a chance to try something new.

RE: Ever suggest a restaurant for Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives

Liked the show at first, then tried a restaurant or two he had bragged on. They were terrible. Think he would brag on anything just to make a good TV show; but if he has no objectivity, why watch the show? I find that this is true of any restaurant that is recommended whether by him or anyone else. One person's pleasure is not necessarily anothers. I watch the show and if it looks interesting and I am in the area, I might try it. Some I like, some I do not.

RE: Washer Dryer Combo

No dryer sheets for me. I saw a report where dryer sheets can create an invisible film on the lint trap. The reporter poured water over the screen of the lint trap and the water didn't go through. That means that the air won't easily go through either, causing all sorts of problems. Thanks guys I guess it would be a bad idea. I haven't used one in or out of the mesh bag but really glad to read this first.

Ever suggest a restaurant for Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives

I have only suggested one place and was happy to see it on the show recently but I doubt if I was the only one. Has anyone else suggested a place. I also like to check their website (DD&D) when we are traveling and see if there is one in the area we are staying. I also have a couple of their books and if we go to one of the restaurants from the book, I will have the manager or owner sign it. Danny's All American Diner in Tampa, FL

RE: Washer Dryer Combo

"NEVER use fabric softener sheets" Exactly, and the mesh bag should work for the dryer sheets as well.

Washer Dryer Combo

While staying at the Lazy Days in Tucson, AZ our washer/dryer stopped working. The LD service person came over and after much investigation found that a Shout color guard sheet had gotten stuck in the drainage hose causing the washer not to work. Since, I really find the color guard sheets useful, I was disappointed until I came up with this simple solution.. I went to the department store and bought a small mesh bag (12" x 12")with a zipper usually used for small fine delicates. I place a color guard sheet in the bag, zipped it up and place it in washer. It worked perfectly. I sent my solution to FMCA magazine for their technical tips but no matter whether they pick it our not, I am happy with the results and no more worries about the sheet getting stuck in the hose.

RE: Shipping and Handling

I for one love the snuggies. I bought one for each of our kids and their spouses and even got them the ones with their favorite NFL team. I guess you have to look at each product and see which one works for you. I usually wait until they are in the stores but not always. Go to any thrift or consignment shop and you will see many of the items that don't work.

Shipping and Handling

I was watching the informercial for the NuWave Stovetop and thought it might be good, especially for the motorhome. It was advertised at 3 payments of $33.99 but wait, you also get a second one for free and the pots and pans that go with it. Just pay shipping and handling. I tried to call but could not get a straight answer on the cost of shipping so I went on the internet. Here is how it works out. For each stove top, you pay $29.99 for S&H and another $29.99 for each set of pots and pans. So for a $100 item, you pay approximately $120.00 for S&H. I decided to wait and see if it comes to Wally World or another store. Now, if your stovetop arrives broken or you are not satisfied, you can mail it back (at your expensive) for a full refund, minus the S&H charges.

RE: Interesting Family History.......

I am a direct descendant of Elder William Brewster on the Mayflower on my father's side on his mother's side. My paternal grandfather (Hans Christian Hansen) came over from Norway after he was shanghaied by an English ship and made a cabin boy when he was 12. He became sick when he was 15 and they left him on an island with missionaries. The only ship he could catch off the island was going to America so he never got to go back to his homeland. He came to America at 17 and joined the Revenue Cutter Service (now called the Coast Guard). Eventually settling in Clearwater, FL with his wife and six children. His wife (my grandmother) was a big New England snob and did not like him to speak Norwegian in their home and she insisted that he go by the name Chris so that no one would know he was "foreign". She was a good mother and grandmother but she did have her funny ways.

RE: My seven thousand mile trip

Larry, sounds like a great trip. Isn't it wonderful to live in a country that has so much beauty. Where you can be driving in the desert one day, mountains the next, and around the ocean the next. And to be able to see so much history. I get emotional everytime I think of all the great places we have been to and look forward to the next trip. Really think we need to go to the New England area. Still haven't seen New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and New Jersey.

RE: My seven thousand mile trip

Spend $3149.00 on Fuel, including gas for car. Total mileage so far is 6,239 miles on the coach. We still have 500 miles to go to get home. We were getting somewhere close to 8 miles to the gallon. Of course that varied due to mountains but the average is 8 mpg. We started with 13,000 miles on our coach.
