RE: how to - sewer hookups?

One little trick. If you leave your grey valves open, sewer gas can travel up though your hose, tanks and the vent stack. You may notice this odor around your trailer. Put something under your sewer hose to raise a section to act as a P stop and create a water dam. That will stop the gasses from traveling up and out.

RE: Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Problem

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) has nothing to do with the Particulate Filter. DEF is used to reduce NOx gasses.
From what I understand, you shouldn't have to pull over on a highway. Highway driving should clean it. Parked regens are for stop and go city driving. The idea being the hotter the exhaust, the more passive cleaning.

RE: Disadvantages of 3.73 Axle Ratio

I should have gotten the 4.10 when I ordered my 2011 truck, it was a $100 option. I believe that with the 6speed trans, the 4.10s will actually improve gas mileage. I would love to have a identical truck to test it out...What kind of truck did you order??

RE: Disadvantages of 3.73 Axle Ratio

Other than a slower acceleration when pulling from a stop, what other disadvantage is there to a TV with 3.73 ratio?
3.73 were standard on the 7.3 SRW trucks. Dualies came with 4.10s. Put a mild tuner on that truck and it won't downshift too often.

RE: Noise in water heater area .

RV's have a check valve at the city water connection. They tend to make noise with low flows and I suspect this is what you are hearing. If so, the pitch will usually change when you open a second faucet.

RE: Best Snowbird Destination ?

OK, so here I sit in northern Michigan, in a foot of snow, and it hits me that there is no reason that I should be sitting here again next year. But, where should I go ? I have a 5er and a new TV, so it is definitely a question of where and not how. What is the best strategy for the first winter ? Should. I just keep driving south "where the weather suites my clothes" or should there be a greater method to my madness? How do other RVers do it?You still got a good 3 months of winter. What's wrong with leaving now?
South Texas is probably the closest and least expensive destination. Pricier and greener in Florida. Consistent weather in Arizona/South California. Start now and try them all.

RE: Hot water heater running on gas

I shut mine off when I go to bed and fire it backup in the am. Figure it saves one or two cycles. The water is still quite warm after 8 or so hours.
Never thought of shutting off during the day. Shouldn't hurt anything.

RE: Hot water heater check valve defective

As powderman426 pointed out. The check valve's main purpose is for isolating the water heater during winterizing. I don't know what other benefit it might have.
Coming straight from an Attwood Factory Rep,......
The sole purpose of a check valve on the inlet is to stop heat from transferring back into.... and then disapating thru the cold water line, causing unecessary cycling of the WH.
OK, Good to know. However, I'm pretty sure mine is on the outlet side.

RE: how much snow on fiver roof is okay?

If you can move it off with a leaf blower, I wouldn't worry about it. I've had close to a foot without damage. A small plastic shovel is your friend. Don't stand on your antenna and be careful around vent covers.

RE: Thetford toilet

Don't know about your model but on mine the water valve is a simple plastic deal that you can take apart and replace the O ring. You have to pull the toilet to access it. There is nothing special about this O ring. You can match it up anywhere that sells O rings. That and a little plumbing grease and you're good to go again. (pun intended)
Having said all that, I'd be surprised that wear of the O ring is the problem on an year old toilet. Any warranty?

RE: Jacking points for a Roo 21SS

If the axles are over slung, I use the bottom of the springs. If under slug, I use one of the U bolts. I will also jack directly on the axle using a piece of 2x4 between the jack and axle. You don't want to be lifting on the axle too far from the ends.

RE: Tracphone

With Tracfone I add a year of service at a time to preserve the phone # and that comes due in March. The minutes do not expire. A tad more expensive than Net10 (same company) but I find it worth the little bit extra.
I also have a Wells Fargo account and have an American address on the check card which eliminates a lot of issues with online purchases and fuel pumps.

RE: Poorly designed heating system on Montana fifth wheel

A 30# cyl holds 7 gal of propane.
One gal of propane = approx 91,500 BTUs or 27kWh of electricity.

RE: extreme propane usage

My old Jayco had a wood frame and fiberglass pink insulation. It would go for a couple weeks at near freezing temps on a 30# cyl. My Everest has an aluminum frame with white Styrofoam insulation. I get about 4 days out of a 30# cyl in similar conditions. Yes, this trailer is larger but even so that is a heck of a difference. I've gone through 3 tanks since arriving in the RGV since Nov 23 and we've had near record high temps.

RE: Self adjusting or manual adjusting brakes

Why not just get disc brakes and be done with it? Better stopping can be considered a plus.Price?? ...... Not knocking disks but I have always been able to lock up trailer drum brakes with high controller settings. I'm not sure disks are worth the expense but then I have no experience with them.
I have not heard of anything bad or good about self adjusting brakes. If I were to go with self adjusting, I would do all 4 wheels at the same time.

RE: Test trip today...what does it all mean?

I towed with OD engaged most of the time. Truth be known, locking out the OD didn't seem to make much difference with the fuel mileage. 10 - 12 on a pyrometer doesn't make sense. Do you mean 10-12 lb of boost pressure?? I'd pull something around 29 psi up steep grades. Or do you mean 1,000 to 1,200 deg F. exhaust temp. I'm in the camp that exhaust temp (pyro) should be measure before the turbo charger and Ford says the limit is 1250 F. You can run that all day.
The 7.3 is a great engine. The 4100R transmission is another matter. Have fun with your new toy.

RE: Where are you rv.net snowbirds?

We've taken refuge in Snow to Sun, Weslaco, tx again this year. A little cooler and draftier than normal today but a quick check of the Winnipeg weather keeps any complaints well in check.

RE: Bearings/axles

I'm a little anal about running gear. If new, I pull the wheels and check the brakes and bearings in the first year. Then I inspect every couple of years. I've seen the quality of workmanship from these RV manufactures.
I'd be on a used trailer as soon as I got it home.
