RE: Impact wrenches

I have an electric one that works great for around the house. I find is more easier than having to use an air one. I don't see the need for one while travelling. In the one case were I had a blowout

RE: Merging onto an Interstate

In Illinois the merge means:
Merging Lanes
This sign tells you that two lanes of traffic going the same direction will soon merge into one lane. Be ready to either change
lanes or allow other traffic to merge into your lane. Merge signs
appear on expressways just before expressway ramps. The driver on the expressway slows down to let the driver on the ramp
merge.
Both drivers have responsibility. You have to make room. This is important in high traffic areas because most everyone except truckers follow to close to each other to allow save merging. All said I would rather not have to deal with Chicago expressways while towing in rush hour

RE: Safety Chains

With safety chain on a travel trailer if it comes off the ball or the receiver pulls because the pin was not put in place the trailer will sit down on the chains and you can bring it to a controlled stop. I had this happen to me. No damage to the trailer or vehicle. This would not be the case for a 5th wheel.

RE: Propane Refill Scam

Both the RV dealer and rental place that I can get my bottles fill charge a fix amount for the bottle. I don't fill them unless they are near empty anyway.

RE: Propane Problem

Try switching the tank positions. It could be it will not pull from one side of the regulator properly. If you have a seperate BBQ hook your tank up to that and see if it works OK.

RE: Calculating Fifth Wheel Maximum Weight

I think you have enough payload to handle 2500lb on the pin. So your man limit is the GCWR 23,500 - truck weight with passengers.
Not sure want exactly that would be but the King Ranch is not a light weight. Probable close to 8000lb before passengers. Let's say 9000lbs that would give you 23,500 - 9,000 = 14,500. I would think that 14000 GVWR is OK for that trailer. The pin weight might go above 2500. You might want to weigh your Truck with passengers to find out you truck weight.

I would think driving the trailer would shake it up a bit.

RE: Ford - Unhitched vs Hitched Fender Height

Setting up the Lincoln Navigator with its auto-leveling suspension was far more complicated. You pretty had to apply the WDH to have close to the same amount of drop on both axle. Maybe leave the rear a half inch lower than the front after the WDH is applied. The air-leveling always adjusted the air-pressure to level the vehicle. The best way is to plan on spending some time at a truck stop making multiple weighs and adjustments. For spring suspension you do pretty good just using the measurement method. Most of the hitches that have 500 WC but 1000 or 1200lb WDH mode need at least 50% return. The trucks have a light rear and just take more weight on the rear.

RE: Dealing with the cold

There is a higher efficiency furance with two stage blower but I don't know of ultra high efficieny furance for RV. Those furnaces have a condensing exchanger that have an income and outgoing air vent. The whole system must be sealed which is probably somewhat of a bigger concern on a mobile unit. I would think the builder that make the 4-season package should entertain adding one, but most people don't use the RV that way.

RE: Propane quick connect question

Might be easier to tee off before the quick disconnect and add another.

RE: Bunk room

Payload is still a problem. Jayco has a front bunkhouse with rear bedroom. That is probably want you want with you height. There are some 7 foot tall pull behind trailers. The 31.5 FBHS but I think you can figure on close to a 2000lb pin weight which would. Check out Shasta Revere they have tall ceilings.

RE: New 2013 Ford GVWR increase

It would be interesting to see how the GVWR of the truck is determined. The GCWR is more about the drive-train limits but the GVWR is about axle ratings (suspension), frame strength and brakes. The only difference between many 2500 and 3500 SRWs is the rear suspension.

RE: Installing 30 amp box at home

You will need 1 black and 1 white of at least #10. If you think that you will be pulling near the full 30 amps then running #8 would be beneficial but just for the A/C the #10 should be fine. Its just a 30amp single pole breaker. Not the 30 double poles used for 220.

RE: tore up skirting

My blowout to my Jayco year skirt and the white wheel cover was $900 but the was no only minor damage to the underside. The insurance covered it after the $500 deductible.

RE: Shank Length....does it matter LOL

The WDH take the torque out of the system so I don't believe the shank length much. If being used as weight carrying it would affect the torque being applied to the hitch.

RE: Sway Control for a 5ver

A second problem that many have with sway is that the WDH are not setup correctly. The leverage the trailer as behind the axle affects the steering on the TV and if the front axle is lighter due to the WDH being not adjusted properly it makes it even harder to control. Also if sway should occur we don't exactly have a lot of experience on how best to control the vehicle. Very few people who tow have done any research on what to do should this happen.

RE: Can My Family Ride in the Back?

There are many areas where people have children with no heat and lucky if they have any kind of shelter. Now this family does not seems to turn away any stray cats but I know several people with that problem and they are could caring people. If they would not poor I would doubt they would be doing this way. I am sure if had kids in a RV trailer while driving and was discovered the worst that would probably happen is a ticket. While I do feel sorry for children that face this situation rarely is foster care a better solution unless there is outright abuse or severe neglect.

RE: ? On Pin weights

Where is the storage in the trailer.
A rear living room will have most storage from the axles forward.
A non-slider hitch adds maybe 100-150lbs. I would probably guess you should add at least 200-300lb to the empty pin weight.

RE: Do I need to change plans to avoid Sandy?

Sandy should not be a problem in Pigeon Forge area but the current rain in central Tennessee is moving east to meeting Sandy. It's warm today but high 57 on Sat. and 50 on Sunday. Athens, AL has rain today and tomorrow morning with high over the weekend in the upper 50s.

RE: Air Compressor to Blow out Lines

I use an 8-gallon tank and it does ok but I only run it for short periods like maybe 30 seconds at a time. Harbor freight have oilless ones in the 17 and 26 gallon size. But they are quite loud. Compressor link
