RE: PC or MAC

Let me see if I have this straight. Your Mac overheatts and doesn't have the greatest WIFI. Your Windows machine works fine. And you want another Mac. Why not buy two more Windows machines for the same money?
obviously Jamesrpm, you haven't drunk the Kool Aid yet. I mean for email/net browsing, etc. a $600 laptop will do everything needed.
bumpy :p
Now you can get 'Net'books in the price ranges of $299/$399. Great for surfing and reading email and a WHOLE BUNCH CHEAPER than a Mac.

RE: just home from 6051 mile trip!

This thing just plain handles BAD. Now my other rides are an 04 silverado SS, a 93 vette, and a 68 Camaro SS Pro Touring build, so maybe I'm expecting too much?
Your comparing a Ford F53 truck chassis to a Vette? Then yes, your are expecting WAY to to much from the F53.
We had a motor home with the Ford F53 chassis for about a year. The ride was insanely rough, that's why we got our current DP. There is just no other way to say it, the DP air ride is just superior to that of the Ford F53 no matter how you modify the F53.
BTW - I don't have a problem with 'wandering' on our DP and really do not see that many posts complaining about DP wandering either.

RE: Age and highway speeds??

If in your normal "vacation" or any trip other than maybe a weekend getaway could everyone please post their PREFERRED highway to travel on (interstate or backroads), their preferred speeds on that preferred highway and their AGE...very important they include their age.
Thanks

So can anyone verify the rumors, maybe some facts, that Verizon will be getting the iPhone?
I talked so some 'tech' folks at Verizon that said Verizon is working on it...
Maybe just rumors and propaganda.

RE: Traveling to Yellowstone from Florida

We did Yellowstone from Atlanta in three nights. Just lots of driving and stayed in FlyingJ and Pilot truck stops. Like others have said, didn't care about how or what getting there, just wanted to maximize our time at Yellowstone.

RE: Connect to Dish Network on the cheap

a flat wire to run in through a window (again no big deal)...
Be careful on using a 'flat wire' some of those 'flat wires' do not let the satellite tuning voltage pass through it. Which means your satellite won't work.
One of my co-workers could not get their satellite to work in their motor home. I don't know how many times they took their satellite receiver in for repair and could not find anything wrong with it.
One day in talking to her about it she mentioned the 'flat wire' they used. I knew of 'flat wire' problems with satellites and told her about it, sure enough the next time they went out they tried their satellite without the 'flat wire' and it's been working since.

RE: Energy Management System

I'm fairly certain the unit is out of warranty. And we found the problem to be in the cord reel, a loose nut allowed the open ground condition. Fryed both TV's and his washer/dryer has a blown capacitor.
So is there a surge protector that works to cover the inside of the coach items that is perhaps after the converter/inverter? I know there are a lot of rigs with the cord reels...
I would use one of the 'hardwired' units and mount it somewhere after where the power enters the RV, either before or after the transfer switch. Progressive units are designed to protect your RV from power entering your RV not after it.

RE: Stainless steel side panels

I have a few dings along the lower portion of a couple of my basement doors (some road rash plus a water bib encounter!!!) and I fear that trying to get a body shop to match the base/clearcoat paint job along with the graphics on these doors will be very difficult.
Just about an good body shop should be able to take care of things for you. With today's computer paint matching, you shouldn't see any difference. You might even be money ahead by getting it fixed that trying for fab some panels.

RE: Energy Management System

I was considering the Progressive 50Amp unit until another camper here in the park had a problem. He has the portable Progressive 50A unit and it has been in use all summer. The other day he lost all AC power in his coach. Testing showed an open ground condition. When he called Progressive to inquire he was told they would NOT honor his warranty, they would NOT cover any appliances damaged in his coach
Checking Progressives Webpage, they only offer a one year warranty. How long had this 'camper' owned his unit? Was it for more than a year?
I could not find any reference that Progressive promises to replace anything in your RV except the unit itself.
It sounds like this 'camper' did not understand what Progressive's Warranty.
The remedy for breach of this warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of the defective product at Progressives option. In no case shall the liability prescribed by law exceed the purchase price.

RE: Energy Management System

I have been considering buying a Progressive Industries Energy Management System...
Progress does not make a 'Energy Management System', they make a 'Electrical Management System' the two systems are not the same.
Progressive Electrical Management System monitors high/low voltage, AC Hz, surge protection, incorrect wiring and much more. It does not manage electrical load ie switch power from one AC to another AC.

RE: Key West Recommendations

We stayed at Bluewater Key in May and WOW unbelieable sites. Pricey but you only go around once. You will need a car it is 5 miles from KW.
Actually Bluewater is at mile marker 14.5, which makes it about 14 miles from Key West.

RE: Key West Recommendations

OK this isn't walking distance to downtown. But you can rent a car from Enterprise and they will pick you up and you don't have to return it to them. Just leave the car at the Bluewater Key Office and they will pick it up after you leave. The red car in the last photo came from Enterprise. Trust me you will NOT find a better place in the key then this:
Bluewater Key RV Resort
This was site 65 or 66 in April of 2007. Very Private.

RE: Dash A/C Problems

now that I have put the cut off on the heater hose, will that effect anything other than the actual heat off the dash??
My other question , where is the filler for the coolant for the heater...
First question - no it will not effect anything else
Second question - I am not aware of any coolant filter just for your heater core.

RE: Park WiFi

From personnel experience with 'park' WiFi, it leaves a lot to be desired. Sometimes it's free and sometimes you will be paying for it. You might pay by the day, week or whatever. These fees add up and could cost you more a month that having your own WiFi connection. Usually connections are weak and performance is marginal.
Since you are planning to go 'Fulltime' I would suggest biting the bullet and get an 'Air Card' or Satellite internet.
The 'Air Card' would be the cheapest. Usually free with a 2 year commitment. Typically about $60 a month or less. But with this setup you will need a good cell phone signal.
Satellite will give you the best performance but initial setup cost is high. Typically $4,000+. Monthly charges range from around $70 and up depending on your usage.
I can't afford the Satellite setup and have went with the 'Air Card'. Since both myself and my wife have our own laptops, I purchased a Cradlepoint Wireless router that accepts our Verizon Air Car. Along with that I also purchased a Wilson Cell phone amplifier and and a Wilson RV antenna that is mounted to the roof of our motor home. Typically with this setup I get speeds approaching home DSL connections - usually arourn 2.6 mbs. So now our motor home is a WiFi hotspot. This setup works very well for us, we now have wireless internet while traveling down the road.
This is the setup I'm using:

RE: Dash A/C Problems

Can someone offer a solution to this problem please; 2004 HR Ambassador DP.
I agree with other posters here and suspect your heater control valve too.
You most likely have an Evans Tempcon heater control valve. Around the year you motor home was manufactured Evans was having problems with their heater control valves not closing completely. It was a known issue with these valves. In fact Coachmen replaced (under warranty) our heater valve three times before they got one that worked.
These valves are pricey - over $100. But the good thing is it an easy fix. To check if your valve is working correctly. Bring your engine up to operating temperature with your AC on. Then feel the temps of both hoses attached to the heater control valve. With the temp control in you motor home set to max cold, you should not feel any heat on the hose leading to your heater core. The other hose might be warm. Now set the temp on you AC to HOT and check the temps of the same hoses. Both should be HOT when you have hot air coming out of you vents. Turn your AC temp back to COLD, wait a few minutes, then check the hoses again. The hose leading to the heater core should eventually cool down and be considerable cooler than the other hose connected the the heater control valve. If not you have a defective heater control valve.
Your heater control valve should be similar to this.
