RE: Camping spaces and fifth wheels
I have a 36 footer. I had trouble getting into one spot. It was a nightmare getting in and out. However my ground crew is the best in the business (my wife). She got us in and out without any damage.
The longer trailers can be problematic, not impossible. Getting fuel seems to be the biggest problem. We have to be really picky about where we stop. since we need plenty of room to get around.
AC/DC Convertor Fried
Recently while out boondocking our Gen set decided to quit. A friend was there with two generators and offered us the use of his spare.
Seems that the spare generator was having some troubles. Everything was cool, and then we heard a loud POP coming from outside. Seconds later smoke is coming out of the AC/DC Converter under the fridge. You know the smell of burning electronics?
Any way, we manage to survive, get home and I pull the converter out. The tech at the shop says it's dead (RIP) get a new one. I fill him in on the details and he tells me this is pretty common. The generator malfunctions, sending a high current surge to the trailer and the magic blue smoke leaves the converter, leaving it a worthless pile of burnt stuff. I have ordered and installed the new converter and all is well.
Is there a voltage spike eliminator? He says my Onan 5500 Gold wouldn't have done that, Onans have built in protection, cheaper generators do it frequently.
Ever hear of this?
