RE: One Very Dirty Travel Trailer
We found a mobile service that came out to the storage area (or house, or whatever) and washed for about $100.
It was worth it to us!
He would wax, too, if we wanted.
I found the service by doing an internet search of my area: "mobile RV wash (insert your city here)"
Good luck! :)
RE: RVing in support of some other hobby?
We use ours to comfortably stay at bluegrass festivals.
Dh may jam with other musicians till the wee hours of the morning, while I'm snoozing in the trailer, the sounds of tenor voices, fiddle, string bass, guitar, banjo and mandolin in the distance.
We haven't yet been camping for camping's sake, as we're too busy with music-related activities on the weekends.
Nice to see others' hobbies. :)
RE: dry camping tricks to power

5. Use the potti only at night so the water pump doesn't get used.
This one confuses me a little. Does pee just disappear in the dark?
I think he means, if you don't use the potti during the day, you don't use the pump during the day, Saving battery power to be used at night.
i.e., use the campground facilities instead of the trailer potty, during the day. :)
RE: Where to go ???
Try driving up and/or down 395 in CA and Nevada: Sierra Nevadas rise to one side, desert drops away to the other. Lots of beautiful sights and interesting places to stop/see (Whitney Portals, Mono Lake, Mammoth Lakes, June Lake Loop, Death Valley, Reno, the 'back entrance' to Yosemite, etc etc.).
RE: Saw a neat snake at Saguaro Nat'l Park
Saw the snake picture, but can't access the others in the links, as they're for Casita forum registered members only. :)
Cool snake picture, though. :)
RE: 4th Camping, Is yours full?
Dh and I couldn't camp this weekend, not enuf time on the books for time off.
Did drive up to our fave campground, Heart Bar, at about 8000ft in the San Bernardino Nat'l Forest.
Camped there many times with our PUP when the kids were little.
No hookups, pit toilets, no campground showers, but nice site, meadow nearby, surrounded by mountains, lots of trees around and always smells like CAMPING (pine trees and wood smoke :D).
Drove thru for memory's sake, and saw many empty sites.
We sure wanted to stay . . .
Now, down the hill a bit, the Barton Flats campground (+CG showers and flush toilets, dump station for $10) was FULL.
Flatter area, sites seemed placed closer together.
I think we'd still prefer Heart Bar.
Only a 15 min drive up to Big Bear Lake, too.
Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday! :)
RE: Need help with packing/organization/lists
Galley area is set up with necessaries, so we're not schlepping pots and pans and the like from house to TT.
Bedding is left in the trailer (brought home to be washed after a trip, then returned to TT).
Same with bathroom and kitchen towels (which are different color scheme from house linens, so I know which go where after laundering).
All we pack and tote out to the TT is our clothes and food.
Our TT is kept at a storage area (no room for it here at the house, unfortunately), so sometimes I will shop for food after the TT is parked at the site.
With time and some trips under your belt, you'll find what works best for you and your family.
#1: ENJOY the time camping!!
Have read some good suggestions here, keep 'em coming! :)
RE: Awning..How Often Do You Put Yours Out?
Unless too windy, awning is out for shade.
Plus, like beartruck, we're usually at a bluegrass festival for camping.
We bring jammin' chairs and host jams under it. :)
