RE: tv lift mechanism

The results,
Found thru Forest River that the mfg of our lift is Smith Richards. Forest River suggested that I contact the dealer with that info. Called dealer was on hold for a while and then had to leave a message. While I was on hold I emailed Smith Richards and within 5 minutes they called back. I asked if it would be possible to purchase a replacement gear. Dave from Smith Richards told me they had some early units of our lift that had a problem that they have since corrected and would be more comfortable replacing the unit. He asked if it is something I think I could install. I told him sure, so he is sending me a new lift with a shipping label to return the old one at no expense to me. I was very impressed by his actions. I see plenty of threads on this and other forums of horror stories that people have with various companies. I wanted to take this oppurtunity to give credit to Smith Richards for being a stand up company in a world were good customer service seems to be a lost art they have mastered it.

tv lift mechanism

The tv in our living area is one that lifts from behind the fireplace. It now needs assistance to raise or lower the tv. After inspecting the mechanism I can see that there is a gear that is broken and does not always turn when the shaft it is mounted on is turning. I was not able to locate the mfg of the unit. Does any one know who makes these for Forest River or a possible place to get parts?

RE: STINKY RUG

I had the same problem, and this worked for us. Try Clorox Clean-up, you can buy it by the gallon and use it in a 2 gal pump sprayer. Use a push broom to work it into the rug.
Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try a gallon of CloroxClean has to be less than a new rug.
Did the odor ever come back?

STINKY RUG

We have one of those rugs from CW that has the rubber backing on it. Whenever we set up camp and put our rug out it has a not so pleasant smell that we can't get rid of . When we return home from a trip I pull the rug out of storage and stretch it out over the fence bottom side up for a few days, also tried scrubbing it with a household cleaner and hosing it off but the odor keeps coming back, even tried fabreeze. Anybody else have a stinky rug? Thinking about getting one of the wooven rugs to replace it. ,

Thanks Robert6401, almost shamed to say it but I didn't think of lowering the front landing gear.

RE: Waxed front cap - left smudge marks, advice???

Hope you all don't mind me asking but I was wandering what type of ladder do you use to get to the top of the front cap? I have a 10 foot folding ladder but even with it right next to the cap there are some areas that curve up and away that I can't reach. Is it okay to lean an extension ladder with pads on the ends against the cap?

RE: Water Filters and Hoses

I go regulator then hose then filter. I want the filtered water going directly into the rv instead of running thru the hose and then into the rv.

why does it take so long to ship?

I ordered something from CW on monday afternoon and it is now thursday and the item is stilled flagged as "in stock and reserved". Just about all other online companies that I order from ship the same or next day when using standard shipping. Something I will consider when choosing who to order from in the future.

RE: Where Do You Place Your Trash Can Or Bag?

Our Wildcat came with a cutout in the kitchen counter top to dispose of the trash and on the outside there is an access door to remove the kitchen size trash can. Not the reason we selected this model but is a feature that we really like. Also makes for easy access when outside and in need of a trash can that the critters can not get to.

RE: NO 12 VOLT POWER

Thanks to all for the help. Problem resolved. I was not aware that what I was calling the power distribution block were actually circuit breakers. Found the reset buton and what do you know "click" voila and all is right in 12 volt land. Always learning and again thanks for all your help.

RE: NO 12 VOLT POWER

Again, if your slides and the front jacks work your battery is wired properly and is working.
There was a guy on here last month with a similar problem. Here's the thread that covered his issue, check it out. Sounds like you may have the same problem.
12v issue
Thanks golf_bears, sure looks similar to mine I'll check it out in the morning.
Thanks to all for the help.

RE: NO 12 VOLT POWER

Thanks Roy Ken, I have red and black. I have red to positive and black to negative. There is a lead that comes right off the negative terminal that goes right to the frame for ground. There is an inline fuse right off of the positive terminal but I was able to get voltage readings beyond the fuse so I am assuming the fuse is good. The lead from the positive terminal goes to a fuse then to a power distribution block that feeds power to the slides and landing gear. That is where I was able to find voltage reading of 12.7 volts.

RE: NO 12 VOLT POWER

UPDATE: the slides and landing gear do operate when not connected to 110. I don't believe my unit has a battery disconnect, if it does I cannot find it, but it sure sounds like that could be happening. In the cargo area next to the battery is a power distribution block. I can get 12.7 volts from every lead in that area. Then it looks the line leaves the cargo area and runs the length of the camper to the power center at the rear of the camper. When plugged into 110 I get 13 volts coming from the converter not plugged into 110 I get 0. My guess is the line from the cargo area to the power center is bad. My question would be how does that happen from just sitting for 3 months and it is only a year and half old? Also at the contol panel when you push the battery button to check charge level it will show no charge when disconnected from 110

RE: NO 12 VOLT POWER

Update, could it be something as simple as the water level in the battery was low? Just checked and had to add a fair amount of water.

NO 12 VOLT POWER

Last weekend I put the battery back in our 5er and hooked back up to a 110 source. Now as long as I am plugged into the 110 everything works fine, but if I disconnect from the 110 nothing works. I disconnected the battery and checked it with a meter and got a reading of 12.7 volts. Any idea?
Thanks

RE: Lippert slides

Does your batty have a full charge? If not try jumping your battery with your tv battery and then try to run your slides.

RE: Leveling and chocks

Last year was our first year of camping and we also bought two sets of the yellow blocks from Camping World and two of the x chocks (found best price on ebay). I have found if you are on solid ground the plastic blocks are good but when the ground isn't so solid or even we had 2 or 3 of them crack. We will be switching to wood planks this year. I have been very pleased with the x chocks, best advise I got about the Chocks was to retighten them once your tires have cooled. Good luck and enjoy.

RE: RV Wholesale vs local dealer

We purchased our first 5er from RVW in Oct of 2011. After going to several shows and dealers we saved over $3000 including the cost of delivery. At the time of purchase we did not have a tow vehicle yet. As for the sales person's knowledge I have found some have it and some are strickly sales people. Our transaction went very smooth and if given the same opurtunity to save thousands we would do it again. Sometimes when making big purchases going with the deal that you feel most comfortable with has a dollar value to it. Good luck with your new purchase.
