MONTEBELLO FISHING AND CAMPING RESORT VA

Has anyone stayed here before? What was your experience like? Heard the road to campground can be a little scary. Thats not as big as a concern as the cg and sites.

RE: RV Wholesalers.com..?

We purchased our 5th wheel from RVW last October. They were $3000 to $5000 lower than anyone in our area. We went to shows in Delaware, New Jersey and Baltimore and none of the dealers could come close to their prices. At the time of our purchase we did not have a tow vehicle so we had it delivered. Our savings includes the cost of delivery. Other than a broken string in a day night blind ( which they shipped a replacement) we have not had any warranty issues, but then again if it is a repair I can do I'd rather do it myself instead of tying up the camper at the dealer. We did not have a trade so I'm not sure how that would work if you did. But it was nice knowing you were getting such a low price without haggling. If they had the unit I wanted I would buy from them again.
I agree with supporting the local guy and had they have come within a thousand or two I would have bought local. But its hard to put $3000 to $5000 in someone elses pocket instead of keeping it in mine.

RE: GPS... Giant Piece of S&!#

Playtime II, I purchased a Rand McNally 7710 GPS that is specifically made for RV'ing. It has different settings for what type of unit, length, propane amount, road type, height, etc. Also has a car setting for when you do not have the trailer. They also make a smaller version of this with a 5" screen. So far it has been quite reliable. It is not the cheapest GPS on the market but worth looking into. Good Luck and Happy Camping.
X2.
We received the Rand McNally 7710 as a gift this past christmas. So far we have been very pleased with it. We have even used it for destinations that we new how to get to, but it took us a different way because of the rv info we input into the unit. Have not been dissapointed with route choice to date. Also has all the Woodall listings and other campgrounds as well as rest stops, rv services. dumpstations. diesel fuel locations.....and lots of other features. Well worth the money.

Not sure about the WIFI but I heard they have extended stay sites.

RE: speaking of scams

Did they have a spot for your rv? We generally try to stay in ths $30 to $40 range and that includes to 2 people, $1700 seems a liitle high.

RE: Fifth Wheel or TT?

One of the best things we did when trying to decide between 5er or TT was to go to RV shows. You get to look at all the different floor plans and features of lots of different manufaturers. We noted our likes and dislikes as well as must haves and would like to have. I would not let the amount of time it takes to hitch and unhitch persuade the decission as it is just a very small fraction of the time you spend on your trips. I can not speak for pulling a TT as this is our first camper, but hitching, un hitching, towing or parking our 5er has not been difficult at all to adapt to.
Good Luck and have fun.

RE: Stuff blowing out of the truck bed

On our last trip the left side bed rail cap came loose on the rear side of the bed. Caught me eye in the rear view mirror going down the interstate. Told the wife as soon as we get to an area with a wide shoulder I'll pull off and either fasten it down or pull it off the rest of the way. About a minute after I said that it was gone. Oops!!

RE: What trucks shud I look at....?

It took us a while to find a "cheap" pick up as we were looking for a crew cab and that seem to put a bit of a premium on the price. If you buy diesel do your homework, there seems to be some that are noted for needing costly repairs. Use the tow vehicle forum for advise. This is our first year and I got a lot of help, ideas and suggestions when shopping for our truck. Good luck.

RE: Would I be out of line?

I am just amazed about the things the people will complain about and post on these forums. Dogs, kids, gold carts, chopping wood....... Please folks put a little more effort into enjoying yourself and less effort policing everyone else.
What next the smell of me cooking onions on my grill is bothering some one.

RE: Rear Bounce

I have installed a set of Timbrens and still have a bouncing issue at times. Seems to happen when crossing concrete bridges. The 5er starts to bounce and then gets the truck bouncing a bit. I usually let off the gas a little and everything settles down. I'll be interested to see if there is a good solution for this.

RE: WATER FRONT CAMPING

Thanks for all the posts. Lots of great looking sites. This is our first year of camping and we were not familiar with the COE campsites. Definitely going to do some research into these sites. Thanks again for the posts and pics.

RE: WATER FRONT CAMPING

Hey guys thanks for all the info. I've checked out a few of your suggestions and a few of them are beautiful. But I think I need to more clear with what I am looking for. All though we enjoy having a water view, we would like to have direct access to the water. We would like to step out of our camper and put our feet in the sand or go for a swim. Don't want to walk to the beach area, don't want to go across the street. Want to be on the beach 24/7.

WATER FRONT CAMPING

Does this place exist? I always see advertisments were folks have their camper set up on a water front. Be it a lake, river, bay or ocean. Its like they have their own private beach. No road or walkway between them and the water. Would love to find a place like that. Can anyone recommend any place that they hav efound like this? Hoping to find something on the east coast.
Thanks

RE: BACKING UP IN THE DARK

Cover all your bases. Put spotlights up at home, get some solar lights in case you come home and electric is out. Install some lights on the back of the trailer. Once you get it parked, put some kind of reflective markers up to follow in the dark. Give your spotter a flashlight and walkie-talkie.
I did all these things and still could not see. So I contacted the State Police they brought in their search helicopter and lit up the drive way, voila problem solved!!! Not really
Like the idea of installing the back up lights and blacking out the lights on the pick up. Thanks for all the suggestions.

BACKING UP IN THE DARK

This is our first year of camping and yesterday, when we returned from a trip it was the first time we got home when it was dark. Where we live it is pretty rural so there is no street lights and our driveway is over 200 foot long. When I put the truck in reverse about the only thing I could see was the backup lights shining of the front side of the camper. Wasn't easy but we got it parked after several attempts.
Anyone got any tips on making this task easier? Has anyone added somehting like "spotlights" to the rear of their camper?
Thanks

RE: Hubby bought.....

Those of you that have them installed, can you stand on them when getting in and out of the bed? Currently when loading the generator I set it (100lbs) on the tailgate then climb up on the tailgate then move it to the front of the bed. Would I be able to do this with a v gate installed?
Thanks.
sorry, not trying to hijack the thread

COVERS

This is our first camper, planning ahead and was looking for some advise on purchasing a cover. What are your experiences/preferences? What material would be best. Were we live the winters are fairly mild, typical day high around 40 lows in the mid to upper 20's. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
