RE: Fluorescent Lights

I did the same at our Church way back when - changing T12's for T8's. Found the best place to buy ballasts was Ebay. 10 packs including shipping for name brand ballasts for cheap. T8's and electronic ballasts sure a nice compared to the old magnetic ballasted T12's.

RE: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread

Thanks for the link, I will definitely be calling them on Monday I just fear a factory carb is going to be very expensive, I thought I read someone had replaced the carb with a non carb compliant one for around $25, but for the life of me I can’t find where I read that. I think you'll be surprised how cheap it will be from Champion themselves.

RE: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread

2000 watt Champion inverter generator starts and runs a pancake compressor. The brand is mentioned in the video. This is done in eco mode. Admittingly, the generator was just started and stalled on the first attempt. Champion starts and runs pancake compressor in eco mode VIDEO Thanks! I'm looking to get a compressor for the ranch and gas powered ones are very expensive. Didn't think I could get one that a ~2KW inverter generator would start. Once upon a time I tried to start my 3.5HP belt driven oil lubricated compressor from a conventional 2200W generator to no avail.

RE: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread

I run mine all the time, power an air compressor or power tools in the yard. What air compressor do you have? Surprised the generator can start the compressor motor.

RE: 454 water pump

As far as the clockwise / counter clockwise is concerned, how it that determined? looking from the front of the vehicle or from the rear? Front of the engine.

RE: Battery additive battery equaliser

The only thing I have ever added other than distilled water is a teaspoon of mineral oil to help maintain battery level. I just did this to my car's battery back in early Dec. The Walmart/Sam's batteries I buy, the vent caps are messy and the acid eats the hold downs quickly. It's only been 3 months but my battery top is still pristine - no acid creep at all, all hardware is clean clean clean.

RE: Are these halogen replacement LEDs any good?

LED's come in all sorts of SMD packages. At the LED show in Santa Clara I just went to, you'd be amazed at the lumen output in the tiniest SMD packages. Osram had a car headlight demo with 7 qty LED's that each were maybe 2x3mm in size. Cree was there, had an XM-L2 led that had insane light output for it's size. Also an MK-R led, 4 die in one package. So you cannot judge output based on the SMD size without looking at the specs. So many different vendors with amazing products. Things are going to get real interesting as this stuff trickles down and becomes 'common'.

RE: Grape Solar 100W Solar Panel (Costco)

Hi, I believe the Amazon price includes shipping now. Pretty sure it always did.

RE: ETQ IN 1000 generator ( update 3-3-13)

How well does the Honda EU1000 handle a load?

RE: ETQ IN 1000 generator ( update 3-3-13)

Any one own a ETQ IN 1000 generator? A small inverter generator 13.4 x 12.6 x 11.4 26 lbs. This is small enough to fit in the storage bay of my TT. It would be used to charge the battery or watch tv where there were no hookups. At $179. seems cheep enough. Link? Love to get one if it's decently quiet. Edit: Nevermind, found it on Amazon and ebay for that price (free shipping from Ebay) Would like to see and hear one first. Any youtube vids of it? Quick look didn't turn up anything.

RE: Grape Solar 100W Solar Panel (Costco)

Better deal here except you have to buy a pair. DM Solar 145w x 2 145W x 2 panels for $320 shipped in the US. Don't know what shipping to Canada would be.

LED show in Santa Clara

Went to this today for work but also as a geek/nerd. Fun to see how the technology has advanced over the years. This show is heavily 'incandescent replacement solutions' but all aspects were represented also - cooling - optics - emitters - drivers (mostly AC input) Seoul Semiconductor, Philips, Osram, Cree were just some of the emitter companies there. ON, Fairchild, Atmel just some of the electronic companies. There's one more day left (2/14). Admission to the exhibit is free as is parking. http://www.strategiesinlight.com/index.html

RE: E-series fuel pump teardown (with pics!)

BTW, as the brushes and commutator wear, that gets pumped along with the fuel. Cut open a fuel injected car's fuel filter and you'll see a fine coppery dust on the inlet side of the filtering material.

RE: Honda EU2000i -versus- Yamaha EF2000iS

Simple choice. The Yamaha EF200iS is clearly the winner here. Have you seen this comparison?: Yamaha EF2000iS vs Honda EU2000i The Yamaha: -is easier to maintain -comes with battery cables -is cheaper -runs longer -is more quiet My brother has one and I can verify it is one of the best out there. If you're deciding between the two it is obvious you should get the Yahama And you're here too! I think you're trolling the web and posting this whenever you see a Honda vs Yamaha thread. your posts That link is full of misinformation. The Honda is brushless too. THERE ARE NO SLIP RINGS IN THE HONDA. Honda warranty is 3 years too. Honda shuts OFF when the oil is low too. Head cleaning and combustion chamber cleaning - what do you think the difference is? None. The Honda has better surge capability. Go away. You obviously have a stake in Yamaha's. BTW, I own the Yamaha EF2000is.

RE: Honda 2000i valve adjustment

That's odd that the clearances got smaller. I would think the plastic camshaft would wear and increase the clearance. You sure the cam was at its lowest point?

RE: Turnigy Watt and Amp Hour meter $23.95

AFAIK, Watts Up and Turnigy are not the same company. Hobby King may sell both, but they have nothing to do with Watts Up other than reselling it. The Turnigy line is supposed to be HK's own line of products, but some of it is rebadged too. FWIW, I have a watt's up for RC plane use.

RE: Burnt fuse holder from Controller output

Was there an HF fuse in there? I fixed the wiring on the ranch truck from a fusebox fire due to recalled HF fuses that obviously didn't get recalled in this truck. Owner said they saw it glowing one time - fuse would heat up but not blow.

RE: Any compressor experts here?

Those oil-free compressors often use a thin piston that's rigidly attached to the connecting rod, so the piston is wobbling within the cylinder. They have a Teflon ring to try to seal it, but I'm surprised they work at all. They have a short life span because of that. If it's not leaking from a line before the check valve, the piston may very well have worn itself to the point it just can't develop that pressure anymore. What he said. Not sure if there is such a thing as a long-life oiless compressor.
