RE: Dodge front end situation....ugh!

We have a 2007.5 and have replaced all the front end parts at 80,000 miles. Maybe the big Cummins puts extra stress on it idk. Our 2006 Silverado 3500 has 125k on it without problems. I stuck front shocks on it only because I figured I was supposed to by then lol.

RE: Hello Ram 1500 Diesel!

My 2012 VW Touareg 3.0 TDI has very similar power ratings to the new Ram 1500 diesel, and also has an 8-speed transmission. The Touareg has a 7,700 lb tow rating. I'm towing the trailer in my sig and averaging 14.5 MPG at 60 MPH. Unloaded I'm getting 29MPG at 78 MPH. I don't think the Ram 1500 will be able to match the unloaded numbers due to additional wind resistance and weight. Hopefully it will exceed the loaded number. I'm not sure why the loaded MPG's on my Touareg are only 50% of the unloaded, but it seems like that could be improved somehow. My experience with turbocharged engines has been that they are great on gas mileage when you stay off the turbos, but towing on the turbo 100% of the time kills it quickly. I'm glad Ram is doing this, but I don't think it will make much sense as a dedicated tow vehicle. It will probably appeal to the people that use them as daily drivers unloaded. Our Touareg works very well for us because we put about 27,000 miles a year on it but only 4,000 towing. Maybe because the trailer is twice as high as the car so the wind resistence is twice a much plus the added weight? IDK...

RE: Home Made Bio Diesel

thanks for the update DC. I would imagine those kits are very helpful and prevents a lot of problems. Very much so. I remember when I was first starting out a Wendy's manager said I could take 50 gallons of their oil. It looked really good so I took it. I got it home and it failed the test. I had to go back to the Wendys and pump the oil back into their container. I don't take oil from the restaurants container anymore. Also. check out your fire company, local granges, etc...they're always having some sort of oyster and ham supper where they use the oil 1 time and then throw it in the trash.

RE: Transfer tank, yes or no?

Get an RDS directly from RDS. They saved me a few bucks plus threw in the fill attachment for free. Just specify what truck you have and they'll give you the correct hookup. I usually let my main tank get to 3/8 then stop and turn the valve on and continue driving. I watch the miles per tank gradually rise as I'm driving and then shut the tank off at my next stop. I've left it on all day because I wanted to see if the little check-ball would stop the fuel flow and it did. RDS They have more tanks than what is listed on the site. Tell them what you want.

RE: Well, well, well, look at this one !

That article seemed to focus on little trucks (1/2 ton) and not real trucks. Everyone knows real trucks have 6+ wheels and a diesel under the hood. 1/2 tonnies are just suv's with part of the roof missing. Mods, please make a separate sub-forum for these tiny trucks. :B lolol C'mon Bro! :R We all know real trucks have 10-to-18 speed automated manual or manual transmissions, air suspension, air brakes, 8 rear tires and 80,000lb GVW ratings. 1-ton duallies are just "1/2 tonnies" with 2 extra wheels. :W I like the way you think :)

RE: Home Made Bio Diesel

LowRyder, With regard to "failed batches", I should have added that my wife is a chemist and makes up the "go- no go" kits you see advertised by utah bio-diesel (I purchased my bio-pro from Utah BioDiesel; best place to buy from imho). With the kit I know if the oil I collect is good oil before I take it. Get oil sources first before purchasing a processor. I can now be picky about the oil I'll accept. Oil can look good but be bad and can look bad and be really good..it's all about testing. It only takes me 15-20 seconds to take a sample and run the test. The most labor intensive part is oil collection. I now have enough sources lined up and "trained" lol that all of my oil is put back into plastic jugs for me to collect and I don't need a pump to collect. Still though, it takes me an hour or two per month to collect. Then I dump the jugs into a barrel with a 100 micron screen on top. I do use a pump to move the oil from my filtered collection barrel to the bio-pro unit. If you choose water wash you will have soapy water as a by-product. By the second wash the water will look like skim milk (very little soap) and the third wash should be clear (no soap, just water). My finished product passes through a 10 micron, then a 5 micron, then a 2 micron fuel filter before seeing my engines/heating equipment. Hope this helps.

RE: Warranty and DPF deletes

I would leave it on until you can't stand the cel lights and turbo replacements any longer. The good news is these turbo replacements should be covered under the powertrain warranty. That's what my brother did; his is a 2007.5. His dealer thanked him and honored the remaining 90,000 miles on his powertrain warranty.

RE: Home Made Bio Diesel

I have a bio-pro 190 Mom n Pop deli's and pizza shops give me oil for free instead of throwing it out for trash. '06 Duramax LBZ 101,500 miles '07 Cummins 115,000 miles '05 Sprinter 130,000 miles '85 VW Rabbit? who knows lol '00 Kubota 500 hours 3 home heating furnaces -5 winters issues to date: Sprinter-none, Cummins-none, Duramax needed viton O rings installed in the fuel filter primer plunger after 4 years. For the furnaces my heating man raised the pump pressure from 90 to 140 psi and put in a smaller nozzle with a wider spray pattern. Works great. In the winter (Nov-March) we gradually switch to petrol diesel (except for the furnaces of course. I try to react enough bio in the summer to fill the 3 275 gallon tanks for the furnaces) It's not for everyone. My reactor lives in it's own block building and the unit itself is all stainless. I just can't wrap my hands around plastic bio-diesel processors lol. If I remember correctly wasn't there a fella on here who's fuel system self destructed because of using regular diesel? Good luck in your endeavor. thanks DC. You're now the 2nd person that I've been in contact that has used the Bio Pro. So far, the two reports have been quite positive. Let me run down a few points mentioned in my first contact on the subject and get your opnion: 1. Don't use it in the Winter because there is no anti-gel agent in the recipe. True 2. Change the fuel filter after the first tank of Bio Diesel. The Bio fuel flushes and cleans the fuel system and it will pick up a lot of gunk. Also, expect to get poor mileage burning the first tank and the mileage improves thereafter. Have not experienced that scenario. I changed filters "as scheduled" Mileage will decrease with all tankfulls because bio has 10% less btu's 3. New vehicles should remove the particulate filter and urea additive. The Bio Fuel runs so clean that it fools the computers &/or sensors. Can't comment. I have no vehicles with either. 4. The cost of running the chemicals is something like 40 cents a gallon. Add the cost of obtaining used cooking oil & time plus the unit cost of $8k. Including electric, chemicals, (my oil is free) I'm around $1.00-$1.20 per gallon. I think that was all the points that were made in my original convesation. And the post per above: 5. What do you do with the waste products? Glycerin makes great hand soap and compost. My wife has a nice soap-making business. I drywash so there is no waste water. Failed batches are for the un-informed. Titrate your oil BEFORE you process and there will be no "failed" batches. If you mess up a batch there are ways to recover it; otherwise I would call your local sewage facility for proper disposal. There is more methanol in the windshield washer fluid you spray all over the highways and on your windshield than there will be in 10 batches of bio-diesel waste water if you should choose water washing.

RE: A fine Edge or should I say fining Edge

I wonder if an argument could be made for bio-diesel. If someone had a 2007.5-2011 diesel and runs B-50 to B-100 one could argue that consideration was never given for those that want to run alternative fuels. It is well documented about the oil dillution due to post injection that occurs for regen, especially when running bio-diesel. The only way to stop the fuel dillution was to stop the post injection. Some diesels have solved this problem by having the post injection take place outside of the engine in the exhaust stream (GM).
