RE: whale watching

A little late to the discussion, but would offer the Whale Watching Tour out of Bar Harbor is fantastic. There is a college of oceanography in BH and therefore every trip out is a working research excursion with students documenting all sightings. The tour guide was amazing. It was a seminar on the water! We saw several whales. And everyone has plenty of time to view, photograph and just be jaw dropingly in awe of the massive but gentle giants. We lucked out and drifted for maybe 1 1/2 hrs with a mama and her yearling calf. The calf was a total "ham" showing off every move it could think of. Mama slowly circled the boat and calf from about 30-40 yards. You will never forget it. If you have the chance, go! Seeing is believing.

Montana: Take a look at RVGuide.Com. It has a ton of info on virtually all prior year coaches.

RE: Holiday Rambler Neptune

Hello All,
One thing is certain: I DON'T need a "project" RV of any description. :). The messages received are clear and the consistent theme is make sure the arms are fixed and even then it probably won't be the ride I would want. Not one reply has been overwhelmingly in love with theirs or someone elses Neptune. So my DW and I will pass on the coach in question. It's just the beginning of the search process.
Thanks one and all for your input. Extremely helpful.

Holiday Rambler Neptune

We're looking at a 2007 HR Neptune, 22,000 miles, DP. I'd be going from a gasser to a DP. Any major items I should be aware of? Costly general maintenance? Critical services? General impressions? Any and all comments are welcome.
Thanks very much.

RE: Nova Scotia?

Shubie: If you want to drive out and get back in, $20 card key deposit. If you need a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter because they don't have any 30 amp sites, $40 deposit. (We ended up on a 30 amp site they said they didn't have.) All deposits must be cash. Want WiFi? That's extra. Want to take a shower in the bath house? $.50 plus a security code. No cable available. But what drove me nuts was when I called and made my reservation, I was told one thing. When I got here I was told a completely different thing. When I was checking in, there were about a half dozen young adults who appeared to work there all chatting up a storm while one young lady was trying to help a customer on the phone as another was trying to check me in both trying to use the one computer. It was mass confusion with all the chatter from the peanut gallery. Just a total breakdown in professionalism. In 9 yrs traveling a large part of the USA, I only encountered an operation like this one other time. I would not recommend Shubie to anyone else. Too many first rate CGs out there.

RE: Nova Scotia?

Ok. Now we are in Dartmouth, NS just across the bridge ($1 each way) from Halifax at the Shubie CG. Why? Because starting with Canada Day (July 1st) the better CG's are very busy and largely booked up. Shubie is an urban CG. Small but adequate. Run by kids and will nickle and dime you for everything. Very limited "3 way" sites. Not a big rig CG.
Next stop is Yarmouth. Any CG recommendations?

RE: Trip to Maine

Hatman: Have done your proposed route before and yes, you can do it. It is good 2 lane. It is mostly mountain roads with hills, dips, and a few tight turns. If you're not in a hurry, you'll enjoy it. We took it over and up to the north tip of Lake Champlain, literally 100 yds from the Canadian border and then down through the center of Lake Champlain and on into Vermont. Of course we made a stop at the Ben & Jerry's original plant. They have modest RV parking. Decent but not over abundant. The tour is "good" but not the end all. Average speed will be about 45-50 tops. As I said, good 2 lane with curves, hills, and valleys and a few small towns but not too many. If you need to make time, go the old way. But this is a nice ride.
Safe travels!
