RE: Going from Red River, NM to Durango, CO

babiker911 your profile doesn't give a clue as to what your tow equipment is. We have an '03 Dodge dually with an automatic transmission that we had to have retro fitted with an after market exhaust brake. What a lifesaver this has been. This particular add-on is recommended especially when towing in high mountain areas. This helps with not using your brakes to the point of over heating and slowing you down using an exhaust brake. But the route you have chosen will not pose a big problem. Even though your signature states New Mexico you must not be familiar with high terrain towing. Hang in there you should do just fine with the route you have chosen for this trip. Believe me I am a white knuckle side seat driver! Sheila aka....

RE: Going from Red River, NM to Durango, CO

There are not any large or high passes, knuckle biters on that route. Getting into Red River from Eagle Nest has higher altitudes than you will see enroute to Durango, the only thing is that the Colorado roads don't have wide shoulders like NM. Have fun in Durango. Sheila aka...

RE: Houston to Durango, CO

I can help with route from Palo Duro to Durango. You've chosen the most benign route ie: not much in the way of elevation changes. No super hairy curves, pulls or downhill's. There is a short steep hill going into Durango on 550 but nothing that easy going won't take care of. There is a fairly steep hill(not long either) going into Palo Duro Canyon but well worth it. In Amarillo we enjoyed the Quarter Horse Museum and the Big Texan. In Albuquerque there is lot's to see. We have a Tram that takes you to the top of Sandia Mountain 10,673 ft., Old Town Plaza, recently people have been visiting to take 'The Breaking Bad' tour, we have several nearby Indian Pueblo's, we have 4 Casino's if you're into gambling, lot's of places to eat, several microbreweries. In Durango, there is Steam train that goes from Durango to Silverton, a great ride something not to miss, we love Durango it is just a quaint mountain town. A caution or safety note. Please keep in mind the elevation. When you get to Albuquerque you will be just about a mile high, so you may feel short of breath and more tired than usual. Drink plenty of water this will help, give yourself time to acclimatize before hiking up a mountain or even a steep hill even if you are fit. You'll be over 6,500 ft in Durango. Otherwise, have a great time! Sheila aka...

RE: My Old Kentucky Home State Campground

GilliedogKiwi true the sites aren't easy to pull into. We put our 29 ft. TT into site 3 with a long bed dually. It took quite a while but we did it! We stayed for about 9 days. Our friends who were traveling with us put a 39 ft 5r in spot 4 with a 5500 so it can be done. We had to buy an extension electrical cord and raise the back of the trailer higher than we ever have, but I would go back in a heart beat! We had the best time visiting the area doing the KY Bourbon & KY Wine trails, visiting the museums. Sometimes things that are worth it are a little tougher to get to! Sheila aka...

RE: Newbies looking for a good vacation spot for this summer

There is always Durango Colorado, or nearby Bayfield, with Vallecito Lake. RE: Doing the Distillery tours in Kentucky

We did that same thing in July of 2011. If you can go during the 4th they have the best fireworks display and you can literally sit on the golf course greens next door to Watch! We did Makers Mark, Jim Beam, Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey, Heaven Hill, the life of me can't remember the 6th one, we were in Bardstown for 8 days and did the wine tour too. We also did the Civil War Museums, My Old KY Home, went to eat at the Tavern on the square for Hot Browns, don't forget to try some Bourgois(Burgoo)Sp? We also went to Lincoln's Birthplace and the Kentucky Railway and Museum. Sheila aka...

RE: Branson

We stayed a month in Branson at the Wilderness RV park which is a Silver Dollar City affiliated campground in May of 2011 for their Bluegrass and Barbeque Festival. I believe you get a discount for camping there. The one big thing that was suggested by our friends who are full timers and pretty money saving savy is to buy a season pass dor Silver Dollar City, they are running specials right now! It paid for itself in a couple days. They have great rides for your grandsons age and music entertainment for you. Buy a Silver Dollar City Mug and get cheap refills! They have a shuttle from the campground to the park. The park itself is rustic and does have a pool and game room. Just an FYI! Sheila aka...

RE: Newbie looking for best route CT to AZ

Welcome. There is a subject in RV Lifestyle which might be of help. What to see in your hometown I believe that is the title. Very Informative. Although this has no 'Route' bearing I have one suggestion that will be of great value traveling in the Midwest that time of year and that is a 'weather radio' I was given one as a retirement gift by some dear friends who full time. It is a very valuable piece of equipment for safe travel. Safe Travels! Sheila aka....

RE: Favorite things to see in your hometown

Hi, I am so green! Wish we could do as you are doing. But for now we are part timers. I have a suggestion for Albuquerque. There is a small but moving museum you might be interested in. It's located in downtown Albuquerque. NM Holocaust Museum I noticed that you had the Jewish Museum in Florida so I thought I might suggest this also. Also the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Angel Fire is touching and it is located in the Enchanted Circle which is one of the most beautiful drives in NM Vietnam Veterans Memorial New Mexico is a great state, truely the Land Of Enchantment! Bien Venidos! Welcome to New Mexico! Where the question of 'Red, Green or Christmas' is answered! Sheila aka...

RE: Kitchen Equipment/Utensils?

Most everyone has listed good stuff and it's pretty much what I have. This year we will be taking our breadmaker, we're trying to eat healthier and cut the additives. I have a combo food processor/blender, a hand mixer, an electric fry pan, 3qt crock pot. I don't carry the cast iron because of weight but could now because our new rig is lighter weight. We have for outdoor cooking, a fold and go grill and a fold and go 2 burner stove by coleman, got this heads up from our friends who are fulltimers. Light weight compact and easy to use!
