RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Same here...never felt the need for special recipe software. I keep the recipe, the URL, attending pictures, and, sometimes VERY importantly, the comments section. If you see recipes as inspiration rather than regulation, those comments give you plenty of extra ideas and sometimes make the difference between a treasure and a disaster. (Like the comments that said "waaaaayyy too much cardamom on that chicken - cut it back to 1/3 the amt. Yeah.)

Outdoor entertainment center installation
This mod was posted at the ModMyRv and I am really impressed! I can't imagine anything much scarier than cutting into the side of the rig like that, but it is a beautiful job.
Dh is not going to be happy that you posted that link where I can find it....
Yeah I get that...my DH is sure wishing I'd stop looking at sites with all of these mods and is starting to really get irritated ROFL!

Lots of fun changes. I love personalizing our Rig. Photos are at www.skjennagard.ca
Thanks for these pics...I do love that any garden decor. The table switch was great and one of the first things that I will do, too.

Not all decor related, but a lot of good mods here in the galleries at the forums for ModMyRv.com . I am finding this to be a great site for RV DIY folks!

Make fabric shades from old miniblinds
Oooo you gotta see this. Take an old set of miniblinds...take them apart and reuse a few of the slats and the rest of the mechanism to make beautiful new roman fabric shades. This is a fantasic RV mod project!

RE: Diva wannabe: anyone else HATE RV interiors?

Ok new question: what is the deal about carpet vs. slide. DH is telling me that you have to leave carpet for the slide to come in over the top of it. But I KNOW I've been seeing some floors where that wasn't the case.
He KNOWS that I hate carpet with a passion...working on getting rid of all of it in the house right now. All you have to do is pull it up once to know that it's a disgustingly nasty thing to keep on the floor.
We need hard floors and leather upholstery in the house and in the camper - it's just a no brainer with these two hairy cats and big, muddy, hairy dog. I've been fighting to clean up after them for over 10 years and I'm ready for our interiors to stop working against me.

Please be sure to post pics if you rebuild an entertainment center, OK?

Are you guys getting as many great ideas as I am? I have a friend who hates the cherry framed mirror by the front door, but it's just amazing how much nicer a few glass tiles would make it.

"that is a pub table with 2 stools but that is now gone.
I still trying to deciding if I want to build a small entertainment
center for that space or just leave it open?"

Hmmm open space is always nice for sure. Would you then do something else with the space from the existing entertainment center?

Great Mike 54 so you still have a dining table but saved the space by using the gateleg?

RE: Diva wannabe: anyone else HATE RV interiors?

ALLURE FLOORING:
You guys I LOVE this stuff. We have to be very careful about in remodel/redecorating choices in our stick home. Otherwise we'll have way too much invested in it for what it would be worth on the market.
The best thing we've ever done to that place is pull up the carpet and put down Allure flooring. I learned about it because I worked at HoDe and one of the flooring guys was telling me about it. We purchased it when redoing the bathroom and nothing could be easier or better.
You will get as real a wood look with it as you'd get with laminate, but installation involves 3 tools: measuring tape, straightedge, and utility knife. Anyone who can get down on the floor can install this. It goes in way easier than sheet vinyl, stick flooring, or stick-on tiles.
It sticks to itself, so it floats and won't mess up anything underneath. I mean it sticks, too...both flanges(?) are covered with contact cement, but it's easy to get in the right place the first time. The contact cement creates a watertight seal, and it's guaranteed watertight for 25 years. It's been down in our master bath for two years now and looks as nice as the day we put it down.
As flooring goes, only cork would be lighter weight. It's as heavy as very high quality sheet vinyl.
No, I don't get anything from them except for being a happy customer. I haven't worked at HoDe in two years, and anyway they don't even get employee discounts, much less a commission.
Anyone even thinking about redoing their RV flooring needs to have a good look at Allure.

RE: Diva wannabe: anyone else HATE RV interiors?

The topic of the thread states, "> Diva wannabe: anyone else HATE RV interiors?" The wife and I both hate so many of the interiors also. Why all the big gaudy flower prints or rectangles within rectangles that almost hypnotise or the black leather furniture?
Why do some interiors look like my grandmothers house in the 1950's? Mass appeal? Does this mean that the RV manufacturers think that the majority of RVers are "rednecks or country bumpkins?" I sure hope not. We have been looking at used DP's in the 2003 and 2004 age range for a while and have found some pretty nice one's. However, step inside and bam, the interior color scheme is like a smack in the face. I would consider purchasing a unit if it had everything we wanted but the interior color scheme, but it would need to be one heck of a deal. At least enough of a deal so that we could redecorate.
At the moment it looks as thought we'll be buying my inlaw's 96 (maybe 98) Excel sometime this fall. If that is the case, I will CERTAINLY be redoing it. It has been lightly used, immaculately maintained, and garaged 100% of the time when not in use. It would actually fill all of the non-negotiable parts of my shopping list if it had opposing slides in the living area, but for the price and terms, I'll take it and be happy.(So much for non-negotiable...)
The most fabulous thing about the posts people have offered up is that, in addition to the cosmetic improvements, there have also been drastic improvements in usability. That business of dead space between and behind drawers irritates me to no end. The improvements made available in heaters, flat tv's and that little vacuum dustpan doohicky are icing on the cake.

RE: Diva wannabe: anyone else HATE RV interiors?

We just started re-decorating our new OLD 98 5th King of the Road. I was going to save the toppers on my windows and recover them. We decided we wanted curtain rods. We will be going denimn with antique furniture. We took the table out. Hubbie is fixing my grandmas game table. The rest of the furniture is from our home. I'm using a 1930's print for the kitchen window. I needed the trailer to remind me of my home that I was leaving. We will be painting the walls this spring and changing out the slide ceiling covers. I agree with you..The new trailers aren't me. Maybe in a couple of years I'll change my mind. I hope to soon have before and after pictures.
Please post them here, TXNana, when you get them. I am set to get notices when someone puts something on this post and don't want to miss seeing them!

Clicky
Wow. Beautiful... and perhaps even more importantly, so much more practical. My favorite thing about these reno's and that they are done by people who *actually use* their rigs, relieving the rigs of those items that fall into the "what were they THINKING?" from the factory.

We changed out all of the Aunt Ethel's parlor look in our Arctic Fox. Now it's more of a rustic lodge theme. New floors, new window treatments, new hardware, faucets. Ripped out the dinette as well. I have some screw holes on the wall where we removed it. Probably will cover with a rustic beadboard style wallpaper. It's been fun, but not cheap or fast.

I think you hit on something here. It's a difference between ordering custom and a truly individualized decor. It's not done by just choosing the gray package or the brown package.
By individualizing, you have more control over the spending. The project deadlines can be staged and fitted to the budget. Perhaps most importantly, savvy shopping yields higher quality at better prices (= overall value.)
Factor in the comfort of living with your very own style statement, not some corporate decorator's, and it just seems that things would be more comfy and homier.
