RE: RV related Christmas gifts

RV-related presents--We gave ourselves a trip to Bahia Honda in the Keys for Christmas.

And then this afternoon after paddling and kayak fishing we saw some young men building a sand Christmas tree on the beach.

RE: Christmas decorations

We drove down to the Keys for Christmas. We have a small Christmas tree and a few other decorations in the rig.
Today, Christmas Day, on one of the beaches at Bahia Honda some young men built a sand Christmas tree. Can you see the lines they drew in it for a garland?

RE: Grassy Key RV Park Marathon, Fl

We recently stayed there for a week in November. It's very neat and well-kept. The pool is great. Wendy and Jack (the managers) were very friendly.
At the time there happened to be road construction going on in that area which included the entrance to the park but it was not a problem.
Once word gets out they will likely be at 100% occupancy.
Their pictures on their website don't show that the entire place is crushed stone. These pictures show our site number 7.

RE: Curry Hammock SP Florida Site 14 Question

Here's a photo of an empty site 14 in the foreground. Our 40' Phaeton and navy blue Jeep are just behind the empty site. This should give you an idea of the space available.

Here's a photo with an Allegro Bus in site 14. Here you can see head-on how much room there is side to side.

RE: Said goodbye today

Your sweet story is very similar to that of our black and white cat Pandy. She "crossed the Rainbow Bridge" just two years ago this week.
Sounds like your cats have been given a wonderful life and were treated with love and compassion when it was time to say goodbye.
Thankis for a good memory.

RE: Thousand trails for big rig

One of the problems for big rigs with Thousand Trails is that although there might be spaces you can fit into, they are likely to be occupied by the smallest units in the place! It's first-come, first-served. Any space is up for grabs by any size rig.
Dennis and Cindy Henderson
As it should be. I have a smaller RV but paid the same for my membership .... so if TT wants to re-imburse some of my membership fee to take smaller RV spaces I would be happy to oblige.
I don't disagree with you. Anyone is able to take any space. I noted that this may be a problem for owners of big rigs. Those with large rigs should be aware that there may not be "room at the inn" for them.

RE: can I direct wire a better light for my kitchen?

And BTW, it's not a stupid question. What is obvious to some is very difficult for others. We all have our area of expertise and knowledge. You likely know stuff that I could never understand. Great thing about the forum is that we all glean from each others own area of expertise!!
What an uplifting comment! Nice start to my day.

RE: RV parks in Florida - Is it SOP or the economy?

I just got a very nice "courtesy call" from one of the RV resorts in Florida, telling me that that they were taking reservations and had space available for me in 2010...Is it a Florida thing, or is it the economy?
If it was from an Encore/ELS park, it is SOP for about 3 years now.

RE: Wekiwa Springs S.P. canoe/kayak launch questions

What size pvc did you use? Hard to tell from the picture, but did you use end caps and drill them to allow for the axle to go through?
I believe I used 3/4 inch schedule 40 PVC for everything except the lengths that go through the scupper holes. There I used 1/2 inch because my scupper holes were smaller. As you can see from the picture I used four T's to make all necessary connections. I used bushings to step the size from 3/4 to 1/2 and also in the ends to accommodate the axle. The axle itself was a piece of aluminum stock (can't remember the size, maybe 1/2 inch or 3/8 inch) available at Home Depot which fit perfectly through the bushings. I drilled holes in both ends of the axle to fit a cotter pin to hold the wheels in place and so that I could take the wheels off for storage.

RE: Wekiwa Springs S.P. canoe/kayak launch questions

...a hike down a rough trail that is too long to carry my kayak. I'm thinking of buying a cart to tote my kayak.
Why not be prepared for any circumstance and make one? This cost about $20.00.

RE: South to North on Blue Ridge Parkway

Here are some comments from a similar thread on the tiffinrvnetwork forum:
"For those heading to the Blue Ridge Parkway - be carefull !! The tree canopy is very low and having the top and sides of your rig scraped is unavoidable in many places. While traveling most of the Parkway in NC by dingy we found that the low canopy was the rule rather than the exception and finally took the MH on alternate routes. The Park officials said some trimming was done this year but it was not done properly. "
"We just returned home from the Blue Ridge--we drove our coach on it in a section in VA--about 50 miles--We got off as soon as we could due to the low tree canopy. The DH laughed as I often was ducking--like that would help We were in construction with only one lane traffic and we got scratches on the side of the coach too-- due to limbs encroaching on the road and the narrow roadway. We only drove the toad on it after that. That tree canopy was really pretty tho!"
"It is good that you did not go on into North Carolina. I promise it would not have been better."
"We have been traveling the Parkway off and on for years but have never seen the tree situation as bad as this year."

RE: South to North on Blue Ridge Parkway

We've spent the last two summer/fall seasons living and working on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Crabtree Meadows. We also have a 2003 40' Phaeton TGH. As much as we love the parkway, we would NEVER drive our motorhome any great distance on it. Unfortunately this season the tree limbs hang so low and stick out so far from the side that they almost force you over into the other lane to avoid damage to the roof or sides of your motorhome. Often motorcycles or other vehicles are hugging the center line as they come around the curve and if you have drifted over--disaster!
It's a fantastic drive, and the views are especially wonderful on the miles from the southernmost point up to the Mount Pisgah area. Be aware that often with the clouds and the fog you can go around a curve and run into instant zero visibility. Be ready!
If you do it in your motorhome, please come back to this post and let us know how it worked out for you.
Have fun!
