RE: hwy 1 from san fran to las angeles?

This is a drive in a motorhome that you don't want to miss because the scenery is spectacular. We made this trip in a Class B about 4 years ago. Take it slow and easy and enjoy the journey. The photos posted give you some idea of what to expect. You need to decide if it is right for you, and really, you have just as much right to the road as anyone else.

RE: Laws about TOADS?

Thanks again for all of the posts. Every idea is being considered and all safety concerns are being looked at carefully, but there are three grandchildren on the other side of this long trip across the desert and this is one grandma who needs to make this trip! We need that little car to navigate the busy roads to visit back and forth after we set up in the state park. We just want to get there in one piece. RV.Net is always so helpful.

RE: Laws about TOADS?

Thanks for all the input. This is the first time we have taken a TOAD and we appreciate any and all ideas to make sure we are safe and have a good time. We really need this vacation.

RE: rope lights

Always carry a light at night when you are camping out west. Out west you always keep an eye on the ground to avoid stepping on a snake, scorpion, tarantula...whatever. Having said that, we have yet to see any of these at our campsite in the past five years of camping in Arizona and California. (I still hope to see a bear some day!)

RE: Laws about TOADS?

Thanks. We are still looking into it. The laws in California state that it can be towed either way. We want to be safe and avoid ruining the automatic transmission.

Laws about TOADS?

We have our Miata on a tow dolly behind our 23 foot motorhome, and we are headed to California from Arizona. Will we encounter any problems with the law since it is on the tow dolly backwards? The steering wheel is strapped down to keep the front wheels straight and it tows well. Any suggestions, ideas, warnings before we get out on the road?

RE: Get out and go... while you still can! (A whiney rant)

Desert Captain, We too live in Tucson--what a great place to live. Take care of yourself and keep planning for the next trip. We will pray for a quick recovery and peace about all the decisions that you will need to make in the coming months. God bless you with good health! Desert Spooners

RE: Some members just don't understand

Doing a search on the internet is how we found rv.net in the first place. Now we use it to gain practical information and a few laughs along the way. As for the same old questions...like which tires to buy...we still read lots of interesting input even though we already purchased ours.

RE: Whoops, I forgot

We store our MH in the driveway. It sure helps to pack things as we think about them. On the last day, we keep a laundry basket by the door with the last few items. Would a basket to collect items you want to take on the next trip help you to remember? We use the list while we're camping to remind us what to pack for the next trip. We clean out the camper, do the laundry, and repack on the day we get home to make sure things get replaced. We actually have extra clothes and toiletries packed all the time.

RE: Leash rules ignored?

Our experience with responsible pet owners while camping in Arizona and California has been pretty good. I have seen a few dogs off their leash at state parks but with coyotes, javalina, and mountain lions sharing the good life, most pet owners keep their precious little ones on a leash for good reason.

RE: Chihuahua owners: are your dogs mean?

We have 3 second-hand chihuahuas (probably mixed)--all from Craigslist from people who could no longer keep them. They are all housebroken and have great dispositions. They seem to like everybody. We have owned other breeds but we like their calm temperament and clean habits. They actually clean themselves like cats. They do bark--but we like having them to let us know when someone is around when we are at home. When we camp, they are quiet when they are in the rv. The only problem we have had is that they only like other chihuahuas (small dogs)--they don't like my son's Australian sheepdog because he is so big and rowdy and tries to play rough. And they shed, unlike the poodles we used to keep for years. I wouldn't recommend three dogs but there is a story...there usually is...my husband got a chihuahua for me after our dachsund had been dead almost a year. Well, evidently the dog, Dusty, had been owned by a man because he would have nothing to do with me. That little dog followed my husband like a shadow and just loved him and would have nothing to do with anyone else. The funny thing is my husband is not a "dog person" and he just looked hilarious with this little dog that sat on his lap and whimpered for him when he went out to the garage and left him in the house. Several days later, he bought me another dog and left it in a carrier until I got home from work so it would "imprint" on me...at least that was his thinking. The second chihuahua just loves everybody. Two years later, someone desperately needed to sell a dog (Number 3 for us) and they were leaving the state. At three pounds, she was hard to resist. Long story short, I made friends with the first one over time, but we still like to tell people, "DH and Dusty were made for each other. He doesn't like dogs and Dusty doesn't like people." Of course, now DH is a dog person after all these years...

RE: Does anyone else hate the ads that sound off?

All that beeping and annoying sounds...just ruins the great opportunity to learn more about camping and rvs.

RE: Older Class A's

We have a 1994 Winnebago. We love our cottage on wheels. Beautiful? No, but we wouldn't enjoy it any more if it cost a lot of money which would preclude us from owning it in the first place. DH can fix anything...I am blessed! If you can maintain it yourself, enjoy!

RE: Is it just me...???

We love the campfire for cooking. No, they aren't any more smokey than they used to be. It's just a part of the camping experience. :)

RE: Serious Black Bear problems in Arizona

As much time as we spend camping...and I have still never seen a bear in the wild. Maybe this year...
