RE: Cheap Tubs

UPDATE – Cheap Tubs We finally removed the tub today and took a look. As many of you offered, the tub has been flexing. You all were absolutely correct. When looking at the bottom of the tub we could see “rub” marks where it was flexing. Also, with careful measurements, we found that the supports on the back wall were ¾” higher than the front. That is NOT “close enough” although Keystone thought so. We will be building a new rigid platform and rear supports to place the new tub on, and it will be level. Thanks again. As usual RV.Net members have shown me the right path.

Just wondering Why?

I and my wife were talking about our full time lifestyle, which just passed seven years on the road. One thing we noticed is we seem to have “luxuries” that we never had when working. The following list is some of the things we never had when working, but have now: 1. Tissues at convenient locations throughout our space 2. Gourmet Coffee 3. Crock Pot 4. A good working can opener. (Hand Operated) 5. Large screen TV 6. Electric fireplace 7. Bread maker and thus fresh made bread 8. Sleep Number bed 9. Custom reading lights in the bedroom 10. Propane exterior Fire Pit 11. House wide sound system 12.Extra Refrigerator for large purchases Yes, when working, we had lots of toys like boats, motorcycles, etc. Maybe we were too busy chasing the dollar to notice, or buy the “little” things that make life so comfortable? Now, we have less, but in a way we have so much more. Not counting all the other advantages of this lifestyle. Your thoughts?

RE: Banner Ads on left?

Update for you: I took the advice of switching to Firefox (I have used it in the past), and all is good again. In fact other issues, such as a slow cursor when filling out a form are also solved. I am a a happy camper again. Thanks all.

RE: Do Hosts Do This?

Is the host allowed to knock if the trailer is a rockin? LOL I would not. I would tape a note on the door VERY quietly, and leave!

RE: Do Hosts Do This?

Maybe it was part of the host’s job description. Where we host for 6 months IT IS. If folks appear to be home, we knock. If there are no vehicles in the site, we leave a note taped to glass on the rig with painters tape. (No damage that way) The note is filled out and pre-printed. We circle the possible problem and date it.

Banner Ads on left?

I have recently changed wireless internet carriers as my old carrier will not work at all where we are hosting for the summer. As a result I have 4G service and everything loads so fast! I have not made any other changes to the computer. Now, when I read threads on this forum, on the left side a vertical banner ad appears on the left side of the covering part of the first few posts. This happens ONLY on the RV.NET. I am using IE9 and pop ups are blocked. It is annoying and no doubt costing me to download. Suggestions?

RE: Towing...way back when...weighs on my mind

Way back when passenger cars were used to tow heavy loads they were built with a "ladder" type frame. It is still found on pick up trucks. Now most cars are “uni body” meaning the car has no heavy frame. They can tow lighter weights but when heavy towing is required only trucks still have the ladder frame. If you tow a beyond limits with a uni body, the body may twist and cause problems like a cracked windshield.

RE: Too late for Florida trip? Need advice.

After living in Florida for 34 years, I can say it is hot, but not too hot. Outdoor activites in early part of day, about 7:00 until 2:00 p.m. Stay inside from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. It is hot, hot. After 4:00 outside again. Make sure you get a shady site, there are many at Florida State Parks. This will make a big difference in your comfort and how well your A/C will do.

RE: Travel Trailer Battery

Also do not store the battery on concrete. Put wood under it when storing.

RE: Thought this was funny.

Well, after all, you were on a Ford lot. To get towing capacity seek out the Dodge sign. LOL JUST KIDDING! I know you are kidding. But when I was looking to purchase a 2012 RAM 3500 srw, we stopped at a RAM dealer to ask what the cargo capacity of that model was. The designated truck manager response..."It's a 3500. So it will carry 3500 pounds of cargo." And he wasn't kidding. As soon as he got that out of his mouth, I was walking out the door...shaking my head. But the real problem I had was, this was the third RAM dealer where I tried to get the same info. One guy actually researched for 30 minutes. And finally admitted he could not get information he could believe. But he actually tried to answer the question. The other dealer, said he did not know. But the truck manager would be in tomorrow. I could call him. I really wanted to buy a RAM. But the dealers made me buy a Ford. Had a very different experience at the Ford dealership. When I asked to price out a F350, the sales guy asked why an F350. I told him to tow my 14,250# 5th wheel. He pulled out his spec sheet and showed me the CCC of the F350. Said he just sold a new truck to a couple, that had bought the wrong truck from another dealer. He wanted to make sure the truck was correct size for the need. Probably a very unusual encounter. But he sold me my truck. Your post reminded of when we bought our Dodge. I had owed a number of diesel pickups in my business, and of course knew the “basics” of them. The local Dodge dealer was a customer of mine. I had not had a diesel truck for 5 years and asked the salesman if there was a “wait to start light” on the dash. His response: “OH No. These new ones don’t need them.” (2005 model year) Of course, the light was there. Scary isn’t it? I still bought the truck, but his answer tipped me to the fact that he was an idiot when it came to trucks and I bargained even harder than normal. On the first oil change the service writer tried to tell my wife that if we did not do the current recall and re flash the computer she would call “our finance company.” HUH? Our truck was paid for in cash! Idiot salesman, threating, lying service writers---We scratched this dealer of our list. Customer or not.

RE: Thought this was funny.

So I dropped my work truck off at the Ford place yesterday and while waiting for a ride I walked over and looked at a 2010 F-250 CCSB 4x4 with the V-10. Of course the salesman was up my butt before I even got to it. Well the little info sticker in the window said "Max Towing Capacity 7000lbs. (yes 7,000) So I said "are you sure this isn't a typo". His reply was, "no it's correct, this thing will pull anything. There's not many trucks on our lot with a 7,000 pound towing capacity". I just started laughing and walked away. Well, after all, you were on a Ford lot. To get towing capacity seek out the Dodge sign. LOL JUST KIDDING!

RE: House Flies

Unfortunately, you dog may be the problem. Even if you pick up all his/her droppings carefully, some are left behind. Mostly all species of female flies lay their eggs in decaying materials, that create warmth, such as decaying vegetation, and this includes very small parts of dog droppings. If you notice more flies the longer past 7 days of staying on a site, this is probably the cause as the leftover droppings build up. We experience the same thing in our travels. At about two weeks, the local fly populations rise. If you have this problem only in one location, there is a possibility they are coming to you. House flies can and will fly up to a mile radius from their breeding and/or food source. (Two miles if there is a steady, prevailing wind.) Happy camping.

RE: Cheap Tubs

Yes, I did make a new base. 3/4 inch plywood on two by four legs. It is great idea that somehow it might be flexing. The new tub was "free floating" on the base because that was how the original was installed. Maybe I should attach the tub to the platform and also make sure the floor below is not flexing? Great Ideas, keep them coming.

Cheap Tubs

We travel full time in our TT. Originally it had a plastic tub which developed a crack in the floor of the tub after 3 years. We replaced with what we thought was an “upgraded” fiberglass/composite tub, a new support paltform, and now it has developed a crack after 3 years. I am no light weight and go about 280 lbs. Has anyone found a well-built heavy duty replacement tub? I would be tempted to put in just a shower pan, but it too must sit on a platform about 12” off the floor due to plumbing hook ups. Any ideas appreciated.

RE: Longest Satisfactory Use of Easy Lube Axles?

Been using them as our only source of greasing on our full time trailer just shy of 7 years now. Grease the bearings once per year. So far so good.
