RE: Golf???

No way am I going to try for a hole in one. The cost of beer and shots is too cost prohibitive. On the other hand I do like those greenies @.50 a man and double for the bird just don't go in the hole on the first shot I can't afford that.

RE: Looking for a diesel guru

Black smoke could be a sign of over fueling. The injectors not needing all the fuel they are getting and the excess going out the back end. This may cause high EGTs but to my knowledge it is not caused by high EGT's. It sounds like a fueling problem but not bad enough to show in the MPG. Clogged air filter is a good check so go to the back and look at the filter indicator and see if it is in the yellow or red area.

RE: I was just wondering (Fuel Question)

I live in the mid west and have never seen mid grade cheaper than regular. Once in a while as a promo I have seen mid grade and regular priced the same. Most of our gas is 10% ethanol.

RE: Starter Capacitor - Air Conditioner

It could be capacitor or the same thing can happen if it is low or out or freon Or what ever juice they use these days.
RV Roof AC units have no low Freon switches. Doug
How well I know I just changed my rear air after losing the freon. I did put a hard start capacitor in it and it did start the compressor but no cooling. So a new A/C. Yhe point I was making is that a loss of freon will cause the compressor not to start.

RE: End of the road!

The beauty of life and enjoying it in this country is, that it is somewhat easy to change lifestyle activities and enjoy new adventures. Our RV experiences have been blended with such things as Harley riding and many great days on the big lakes fishing and chartering. So whatever is next I hope you look back in fond memories of you RV experience. Best of luck and God bless.

RE: diesel motorhome tires

Motorhome/Bus tires beyond five years old puts everyone's life on the road at risk. Ask the folks who make them.
This is absolutely incorrect information. Go to the Michelin and other tire MFG. website and look there is none notta one that is found telling you to replace tires at 5 years.

RE: Duluth Mn to Thunder Bay to Sault Ste Marie Mi.

Hi dennis, The Grand Maris Campground and Marina is a good place to cam. Your 45' will be just fine in one of the many pull through s there. You can visit several state parks with beautiful Waterfalls while you are there. Also a recreated fur trading village about 1 mile from there is very interesting. We stayed in a provincial park on our way around I was pulling a 10' trailer and could get in with my 35' MH I can't say that would accommodate your size MH.
When you get back into the Soo. Travel about 1/2 hr west and stay in Brimley Mi. at the Bay Mills Casino and campground. They just opened a whole new section to the RV park which will accommodate you MH fine. This is a very nice park and Casino it has a good restaurant. And a great little full service Casino. I have spent many nights there and is a favorite for us. As a base camp you can travel up the shore of LK. Superior and make sure to see the ship wreck museum and the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Also the Taquminanaum falls are about an hours drive and a must see. Going back to the Soo. You can walk along side of the Locks that bring the big ore boats into Lk. Huron from Lk. Superior. All in all quite a bit to do in these areas. PM me if you want more details. We took that trip last fall.

RE: fuel economy

If I drive a constant 65-70 I get 10.5 mpg no toad and 10.3 toad. measured over many miles over and over.
If I drop the speed to 55-60 I get 11MPG and no measurable diff. towing.
I see 2 factors here one is a lighter coach with lots of torque I think torque is a big factor in weight ratio. Also the bigger factor seems to be wind drag.
The last factor being mountains vs not. Again torque seems to help as I don't see a great fuel difference but I also don't try to climb the mountain at a big speed if I am down to 40mph who cares.
My SIL who is with us a lot seems to be more affected by the weight and has started filling water only 1/2 and other weight reduction ideas. He is a n 8.1 with an Allison.

RE: Norcold refer on '06 Bus not getting cold enough

If the Beer was cool and the Ice cream hard I would say possibly you have a board problem but with both top and bottom not cold enough I think it may be the cooling unit is not good. Go and see how well they honor that warranty. You may need some major work.

RE: Alternative to furnace?

I think I would invest in a new t-stat and leave the furnace do the work of a furnace. It is properly vented and made to function for that purpose.

RE: Help with Kwikee power steps

Quikee has a nice test procedure in the manual as to how to test the motor, switch, and the controller. I just went through this with mine and replaced the relay inside my controller that was bad. I could not buy the controller due to age of the system. They wanted me to buy a whole new system, steps and all for $400. When I opened the controller I could see a melted relay inside which I replaced for $3.72 and it fixed the problem.
The manual and testing procedure is also at the Kwikee website.

RE: HOW MUCH CAN IT TAKE?

I ran mine for 20 hrs pretty hard out to and back from SD on a hunting trip. We had 3 drivers we ran 65MPH mile after mile with a fuel stop out and one back other than that just a minimum in a rest area to change drivers. I did not feel as if we put any strain on our MH at all. BTW if you stop to check air you need the tires to cool down before doing so. You can run your rig around the clock day after day without hurting it.

RE: BRAKE ISSUES NEED HELP ASAP

The vibration is most likely caused by the brake shoes being overheated. The rotors could have warped but if they did it was from the heat. The brake fluid boils at around 300 Degrees but the brake shoes and components will be far above that temp. They said they did not ride the breaks but I suspect they did so more than they thought. Again a vote for complete brake fluid flush. then see where you are at. maybe new brake job and maybe not

RE: Low Voltage - Alternator Question

The belt usually runs a water pump and AIR CONDITIONING PUMP AS WELL AS THE ALT. if THAT IS THE CASE you will overheat. My Cummins also uses a GM alt. that I can buy at Autozone and NAPA. I lost the Alt way up in the top of Minnesota's north shore and the Napa store had it there the next day. Good luck.

RE: ID Theft Plans--Your experience, please

I use a pretty tough to hack Password locker program. It generates the password and encrypts them so it makes it hard for anyone to hack. I said hard not impossible. The program has only 1 password you need to remember. I had not thought of freezing my credit. sounds like a good option to me. I know a lot of us use the public WIFI when we camp. So make certain your security is strong and your information is hard to access from the computer end of things.

RE: goofy , but true ?

well at least its a warning but yes I can see how the officer could justify it. We assume the vehicle has a tag yet the law says the tag must be seen from the rear. Now the tow vehicle becomes a "trailer" and the "trailer" must have a tag that is also seen from the rear. Since the "trailer" tag was not visible then the office could have written a citation for obscured tag on a trailer or give a warning for failure to display a tag. All in all its chicken s#%t but never the less her/she was following the law. Did I spain that well enough??
I guess you are assuming the tow dolly does not have a plate? I don't follow where the car becomes a trailer as it is being towed on a trailer of sorts.

RE: Iowa Bill Aimed at RV Registration Fee Evasion

M44 -
Most states attach sales tax -or excise tax- to the purchase of vehicles.
Whether it's for "road repairs" - or simply "revenue" depends on the state.
Most likely, as you indicate - it's *Revenue*.
In most states license fees (usually) are pretty reasonable by comparison to sales or excise tax.
The CA license ("registration" if you prefer) on a Motor Home, same year as my 1T pickup, is considerably less - but sales tax is approaching 10%.
Expensive tax on a pickup or auto - - but on the purchase a quarter mil dollar MH, 10% ($25K) is a healthy chunk of change!
Certainly an incentive to find another -legal- alternative!
The MT LLC is not necessary.... "if"
"If" you're no longer employed, as in "retired" -
"Move" to Montana - IIRC you have to be in the state for 40 days, but depending on who you get at the DMV (or the MT County) - it can be instantaneous after you register to vote.
Change your address from the campground to a mail forwarding service - and you're done.
A MT DL is a good idea - but not essential.
.
You can as stated move to Montana for 40 days . But if you stay at a residense in another state (say Calf.) you have to register your MH there if you stay more than 6 months.
