RE: So how do you divide up your camping chores??

My wife does all the driving. I just hold the steering wheel. Actually I'm single, just wanted to tell the joke. Being single I do the blue jobs and the pink ones too.

RE: Diccor suprised me today

Yesterday or the day before I was researching Dicor on this site and an explanation was given by a Dicor rep that the distillate evaporated so quickly that it was not a problem. I don't want to go to the trouble but if someone wants to take the time to search it out just do a search on Dicor and you will find it.

RE: How do you keep fit on the road?

If you google stretch bands you will find any number of exercises using stretch bands. I especially liked the one from sparkpeople, as they have a 20 minute video and gives you a pretty complete upper and lower body workout.

RE: camping with paper plates or not?

Dansk China plates, leaded Chrystal glasses and metal utensils. Like to live just as I did in by s&b. Am full timer and stay mostly hooked up, but used the same when I boondocked about six months a year. Somebody once told me that "life is too short to drink cheap beer."

RE: How do you stay in shape when RVing?

Get some stretch bands (resistance bands). You can use them for all kinds of exercises and they don't take up any room at all in your RV. If you are not familiar with them, google stretch bands and you will find instructions for their use. Those, and some walking, will keep you in pretty good shape.

RE: Quail Trails Village - Paradise, CA

Have stayed there a couple of times. Not a bad park. Fairly easy in and out. Lots of trees. Would stay there again if I ever had reason to go back to Paradise.

RE: Problems Volunteering for NPS

Trailertraveler, Imagine this conversation, "Oh no, Kirk is here for 90days."Who is Kirk?" "He's this old guy that has volunteered for NPS AND FWS". "What is that to us?" "They will probably fire at least one of us". "But we are all GS9." "No matter, he has experience in Interp". "What about our other duties?" "No matter, he is good at Interp. That is the point I was making. Other than that, I understand sinking budgets and the need to fill open vacancies with volunteers whenever possible.

RE: Problems Volunteering for NPS

Kirk, "There is a major difference in attitudes of the Park Service in general toward volunteers as compared to the US Fish & Wildlife Service(wildlife refuges). To a Park Ranger the volunteer who does interpretive work and is good at it is a threat to his job. The mainstay of a career in the Park Service is the interpretive ranger which is often what a volunteer wants to do." To me, this statement is unfounded. Having been a Vistor Center Host I can say that there is much more in the job of a Ranger than just interpretation. My being there and doing all the things a volunteer does, oft times book sales, meet and greet as well as some interptation for 3 months nowhere comes near what a Ranger does. The volunteer has nothing to do with arranging for Volunteers, Park PR, budgets, educational programs, etc. Don't think that the 3 month volunteer is much of a threat.

RE: UKIAH TO BAKERSFIELD

Why not take 20 over to 5 and avoid all that traffic in the Bay Area?

RE: Prevent Hail Damage???

I was down in Louisiana one year and saw on TV that a large hail storm was on it's way. Ask my lady friend to go up on the roof and lay across the solar panels. She is not my lady friend anymore. Ain't love grand.

RE: Shurflo Water Pump

You might want to call ShurFlo. They have excellent customer service. Could just be the pressure adjustment on the pump head.

RE: Petrified Forest National Park

In general terms a Nat'l Monument protects single significant features and Nat'l Parks protect a multitude of features. When one goes to the Petrified Forest Nat'l Park unprepared; They are probably not aware that there are over 600 significant archeological sites in the park dating back to the time the Paleo-Indians wandered through between 9500-6000 BC, or of the many significant fossils found and still being found in the park. They may be aware that the Park contains one of the largest fields of Petrified Wood in the World. It is both fortunate and unfortunate that Congress has chosen to protect some of finds from the public. Since you can't see them and if you are not educated as to what the Park has to offer it is easy to disparage it.

RE: Petrified Forest National Park

ReneeG, There is more to the park than petrified trees, fossils of dinosaurs, and buildings. The history is also fascinating. Read a little about the Harvey Girls, they had a presence there, look at the rooms the shared at the Painted Desert Inn. Interesting fact, The Park Chief Ranger's secretary is the daughter of one of the Harvey Girls that worked at the Inn. Read about the CCC Boy,s, then you can appreciate the work that they did at the park. Can be a great learning as well as a visual eexperience.

RE: Petrified Forest National Park

I am a little prejudiced, having spent three months there as a Visitor Center host. Have a little problem understanding why a "geologist" missed so much< earthquake evidence at Blue Mesa, the "non-comformity where 5 million year old volcano flow sit directly on top of 225 million year old Chinle Formation, The presence of Betonite Clay and the effect the weather has on it, just to name a few. If you go, do not miss watching the movie at either end of the park before driving through. You can spend a couple of hours at the Painted Desert Inn. Ask to see the binder with the history of the Inn, fascinating. Before going I also recommend that you go online and read all you can about the park. Quite a few folks drive through with their RVs. Check at the Visitor Center and they will tell you which view sites are not suitable for going into with an RV. Some folks just roar right through, some take 6 to 8 hours. Have fun.

RE: Water Pump Pulses

Google ShurFlo, get phone #. Call, you will find them to be very helpful. In the past they have helped over the phone and e-mailed instruction sheets to me to help with my problem.
