Cummins 8.3 Starter Solenoid Positive Terminal Wiggle

I am still trying to figure out what my starting problem is as I need to use the boost switch, every time, to start my 1995 Monaco despite having a new chassis battery. I have removed and shined up all ground connections. I did a voltage drop test on both chassis battery cables and they are within specs. Today, I double checked the positive battery cable connections to the starter solenoid. After removing both cables and both nuts and washers I noticed that the positive solenoid terminal (copper bolt) wiggles, inside the solenoid where it attaches, when the nuts are not tightened down holding it in place.
Should this solenoid terminal bolt be able to wiggle?
I am trying to find my problem without removing the starter as one of the 3 12pt cap screws appears to be very difficult to access. Thanks for the help.

Water Heater Clean Out - White Powder

I did my annual Suburban Water Heater anode replacement clean out and was amazed at how much of the white powdery crud can accumulate in only a year with little RV usage. We live in a very hard water area but I usually fill 'er up with our softened water.
What is this white stuff - calcium?
Is this a typical occurrence when changing anodes?

What's a Good Deal on 275-80-22.5 S Korean or Japanese Tires

A lot of insights here lately about the quality of Hankoook, Toyo, Yokohama tires. When I buy Michelins (275-80-22.5-G XZE2) I can figure a good price by comparing to Costco or FMCA. I have no idea what a smokin' price is on these Asian tires. Do any of you know where I might look to see what a hot price may be on Hankook, for instance? Thanks.

RE: Monaco Windsor Starting Issue

Could it be that the switch was in the rear start position to begin with? If so, that might explain your issue.

DP Battery Boost Switch

I used to be able to start my '95 Monaco 8.3 Cummins with the chassis battery alone. About 3 years ago it became necessary to start with the boost when hot. Now the boost is required every time. I have replaced all of the batteries including the 8D chassis with no impact I have also done the multimeter readings checking the battery cables and have cleaned all battery connectons. I will make it to a diesel electric shop eventually. My question is, if the battery boost solenoid ever failed couldn't I just use jumper cables from chassis to house batts? Knowing that answer would make me feel better in the short term. Thanks.

How do Airbags Fail?

My 1995 Monaco Dynasty 36' has the Roadmaster 8 bag chassis. The bags look pretty good for being 18 years old. The coach has always been stored inside on concrete. Do these bags start going bad with a slow leak that would first show up as a lean to one side in the garage or do they fail catastrophically? Assuming the 8 bag configuration, would any 1 airbag failure, worse than a slow leak, require an immediate tow? Is there any rule of thumb for airbag replacement based on age alone like we have for tires. My bags are Goodyear double-convolute. I was greasing the chassis today and looking around and I know I need to replace my Bilsteins. It looked like it would be easier for a repair facility to do both replacements (bags and shocks)at the same time if the bags were to be replaced based on age alone. Thanks in advance for your insights.

RE: Best Route for Tucson to Vegas and where to stay

If you like Downtown Las Vegas, Main Street Casino RV Park is the place. Not a blade of grass, few trees but great hook-ups and cheap. It's only a 2 block walk to the center of Downtown - Fremont Street. We love it for 2-3 days.

RE: Pressure Washers

Take part of the money you would spend on a power washer and install a hose bib on your home water softener outlet. Wash the coach with softened water.

RE: Who knows about Monaco Dually Valve Stem Parts?

wny_pat: The part I think I need looks like the long thin part #000633. Only, just looking at the small picture doesn't give my old eyes much insight. Is the 000633 part threaded on one end?
rgatijnet1 If it helps, there is no braided hose in my installation, just aluminum tubes.

RE: Who knows about Monaco Dually Valve Stem Parts?

Diplomat Don, for some reason I thought that the valve stem core as you call it was extended also. Are you saying that on an inner dual the air is only throttled at the very outside end tip by the little valve stem core and that is all that needs be replaced? Thanks for getting back to me.
rgatijnet1, if memory serves I think I unscrewed the outer valve stem core for the same problem several years ago and encountered a long wire plunger as you described. Having no idea where to go to get the part I put the old part back in and promptly forgot about it. I think your description is more accurate for my coach. Thanks.

Who knows about Monaco Dually Valve Stem Parts?

I have a valve stem issue on my '95 Monaco Dynasty in that the little interior button (pencil point size)that pushes against the air chuck inflator is bent to one side and is tricky to contact squarely to inflate. I eyeballed the problem and it appears that the valve stem is two piece, straight and about 9 3/4" long (inner dual). Alcoa's web site shows parts but I can't tell if I am buying the aluminum tube or the inner stem (the part you can unscrew with a special screw driver) or both (one inside of another). If there are two tube pieces that measure 9 3/4" are there then two tubes and two unscrewable parts or are there two tubes and one longer inner part. I would appreciate some back and forth with anyone who has dealt with this issue. Thanks.

Rose Bowl Parade - RV Parking Options

Does anyone have a great place to park a 36' Class A for the Rose Bowl Parade. I am open to anything, maybe an RV park at some distance but along a bus route. We'd be coming from Phoenix and can be there a day or so early. Any ideas? Thanks.

Jacks Extending vs. Airbags Deflating

I know that when I fully deploy my 3 point jacks on my '95 Dynasty that my airbags deflate. My question is how are those two separate events coordinated. Does anyone know? Thanks.

RE: Pac brake PRXB

I love my new PRXB brake.
I pulled the old one off and called Pacbrake with the part # off the old one that was sitting on my desk. They ignored my input gave me the wrong corresponding PXRB part # and I ordered it from an internet dealer for something like $599 or less, it's been a while. Long story short they sent me a second wrong brake before I got the right one on the third try. The people on the phone there (Pacbrake)aren't too whippy. Make sure you use your old part number. When I finally talked to the senior manager everything got worked out but the delay and frustration were unimaginable.

RE: How tough to service air drier on 99 Monaco Diplomat

Replacing this dryer is no "piece of cake" but doing it so you don't get dirt into it almost requires the motorhome being on a lift. I do almost all of my own maintainence but I ducked this one. Freightliner Oasis in Tolleson, AZ, did it for something like $150 complete.

RE: I need help with storage bay door latch.

It is not that difficult a fix if you've seen it done once. The hard part is getting it open. You need tools that look like ice picks with different bends in them. They call them hook and ???? tools. I bought mine on Amazon. Get a supply of ice picks, open the doors that will open and study what bend angle and length will allow you to physically push the lock backwards. The new latches are labeled Baggage Door Latch with a UPC of 6 01320 98523 9. Mine cost $9.99 online. Even if you know what you're doing it will take a while of fiddling with to open. Good luck.

Class A - Long Day - Sore Butt - Need Cushion Advice

I am 68 and my butt gets so sore after what is a long day for me (5-6 hours straight) that I can barely get out of my Flexsteel Captains chair in my '95 Dynasty. My Flexsteel chair was fabric covered and somewhat worn so I bought a Coveralls seat cover from the Freightliner parts dept ($50+). The seat cover fits so that my butt is at least partially suspended in a hammock like mode. Last week I used a throw pillow from the couch to get home. The pillow helped some. What do you guys do? As I remember I had the same sore butt before the seat cover. Thanks.

Shock Absorber Replacement - How To Do It.

My 1995 Monaco Dynasty needs shocks. Maybe new Bilsteins. I thought I'd replace them myself. Is it the shocks that actually lift the wheels off the ground when the leveling jacks are fully deployed, thereby keeping the airbags from being pulled apart? That being the case I need to have some weight on the tires before removing shocks, right? Also it looks like if I have the front wheels turned into the stops that would allow easier access. I have 12 ton jackstands and an air wrench. If you know how to do this, please let me know. Thanks.
