RE: Looking for a diesel guru

The check engine light never came on.
Other than a little slower take off from a dead stop, and some black smoke out the exhaust pipe, I think she still runs great.
When I find out what the damage is, I will post here.

RE: Looking for a diesel guru

If I recall correctly, the boost guage used to register 32 lbs. of boost, now its hard pressed to reach 24 lbs, of boost.
I've tried everything, all of the members on this forum have suggested.
I think it's now time for some professional help.

RE: Looking for a diesel guru

Well, I tightened all of the spring clamps, oiled the exhaust brake and took mh for another test run.
It still blows black smoke for about 2 seconds after I start to accelerate, the boost guage indicated about 25 lbs of boost (which I think is a little low)I thought it used to go way past 30 lbs. of boost.
If I can not find anything else, I have an appointment with Cummins West for next Tuesday.

RE: Looking for a diesel guru

Checked the guage for the air filter, it's ok.
Took the mh for a check ride and it seems like the turbo is not spooling up like it should.
The guage shows only about 25 lbs. there before it would run past 30 lbs. on acceleration, when the transmission is in 3rd gear or higher.
Time to take her into Cummins West and let them check things out.

RE: Looking for a diesel guru

I was under the impression that the turbo either worked or didn't.
If I'm wrong then maybe this could be the problem.
By the way, I should have included that this an '05 Monaco Dipolmat with a 400 hp 8.9 cummins engine and a 6 speed Allison transmission.
The mh has about 44000 miles.

Looking for a diesel guru

I had just filled up our mh with 70 gallons of fuel, from the Pilot truck stop in Madera CA.
I Drove to Stockton, with my daughter's in-laws following in their mh. When we arrived, I was told the mh was blowing black smoke, (more than usual) but only when we went up overpasses, all the way to our destination. I had not noticed any black smoke, nor had had I noticed any appreciable difference in performance, or fuel mileage. The MH ran good as always on the trip home
Just in case, I changed the fuel filters this morning, and cut the old filters apart, I saw nothing inside like allege, or any dirt.
I'm wondering if I should take the mh into Cummins West and have them check it out, or just wait and see what will happen, the next trip out.
As a side note, the wind was probably blowing @ 8 - 10 mph of head wind, and pulling a 24 ft. enclosed race trailer weighing 6000 lbs.

RE: Water leak from area behind Frig

You might want to check the drip line to the plastic cup on the back of the refrig. I had the same problem as you are having, cup was dry. Pulled the plastic tip out of the drip line and water came pouring out.
Seems as though some debris had built up in the line behind the plastic tip in the end of the line.
Hope this might help.

RE: I-5 or CA99?

Just drove 99 from Madera to Stockton Saturday.
Some construction spots to watch for Madera for about 3 miles, Merced for about 4 miles, Lathrop about 10 miles.
I know there is more construction south of Madera by the San Joaquin river about 1 mile and Kingsburg by the Kings River, about 6 miles.
99 is going through a major make over, with all that said, most of 99 is way better than it has been in years.
Haven't traveled I-5 in a while, it knocked my I teeth out the last time I was on it.

RE: Changed Fuel Filter and Now Won't Start

If what Brett (Wolfe 10)said doesn't work.
Try what Twomed said with WD-40.
This works, but you will need to crank it for quite some time to get it to fire.
I know this will work, had a mechanic help me get my last MH started this way when nothing else we tried would work.
Just a hint, we cranked for way more than the 30 second crank time Cat recommends. Mechanic said start cranking and don't stop until it fires.

RE: Oceano Dunes camping

It's just like mowermech stated.
The only time it's more fun, is if the tide is up and the creek is running.
I've seen more than one car, truck, rv or what have you, being drug out to sea when the tide heads out.
Some of our most memorable vacations at Pismo, contained a cooler full of libations, some lawn chairs, high tide and anxious people wanting to get parked and start having fun.
On the other side of the issue, I seen some very nice diesel pushers camping on the sand, it's just not for me.

RE: Any dealings with Morrison's V.I.P. in Fresno, Ca.?

Morrison's is located in Sanger CA. on the corner of Hwy 180 and Academy Ave. about 20 miles east of Fresno CA.
I knew 1 gettleman who had 2 slides put in his motorhomes a few years ago. He was happy with their work, this was a few years back though.
Haven't heard anything good or bad about them for awhile. I do know if I had any problems with my slides they would be doing my repairs.

RE: Who is towing enclosed car hauler behind their coach

Nomadac
Just looked at Pace Americans new policy.
Under what is not covered under their warrantee.
13.Damages caused to trailers under 10,000 pounds GVWR that are towed by any vehicle that exceeds a one (1) ton towing capacity.
Their old policy stated 3/4 ton.
Hope this helps.

RE: Who is towing enclosed car hauler behind their coach

We have a 24' race trailer mfg. by Pace.
We do not use a WD hitch and cannot feel the trailer back there.
As a side note: 2 or 3 of the trailer mfg. void your warrantee if their trailer is towed by any vehicle larger than a ¾ ton truck.
Trust me I know, we broke the tongue on an 18’ trailer and the mfg. asked me what I had towed their trailer with, like a dummy I said our MH.

RE: Does the DW drive?

My DW won't even pull our MH forward when we are at the fuel islands at a truck stop.
She say's "the only thing she needs to know how to do is pull the park brake up if I had a heart attack, and steer it over to the side of the road".

RE: Coolant change

Sully,
I guess I should have been a little clearer on the no flush. The tech said they didn't need to put a chemical flush in the radiator, just flush it out with water. Then he put the OAT 600,000 miles or 6 years coolant.

RE: Coolant change

That might be a little high. I do not have a coolant filter on my ISL and was told it didn't need flushing.
Drain and refill with Cummins 6 year coolant was $270.00 at Cummins West in Fresno CA.
I have always tried to keep the outside of the radiator clean with Simple Green for aluminum and wash it down.

Norcold 1200 water leaking into MH

Well, after suffering from water, occasionally leaking into the motorhome, from our Norcold 1200, for a while now. I found the culprit this morning, a blocked plastic fitting, on the end of the discharge line, at the back of the refrigerator. I swear I had looked at this before, and thought it was clear, had to dig some debris out, but all is good now.
