RE: BC to El Centro, CA

I-40 ends in Barstow. From there to San Bernardino is I-15. Pick up I-10 east from San Bernardino and go south from Indio to El Centro.

RE: Rt 178 north out of Death Valley

Smart choice. As I said, all the unpaved roads are death on tires in DVNP. Miller's Tow out of Lone Pine average fee is over $600 plus parts.

RE: Towbar stuck in receiver

We're all assuming you pulled the pin to release it from the receiver.

RE: Newb cant find water fill

You can probably find the specified amount of clorox to use in your book for your specific sized tank. Locations in the manuals are pretty generic so don't expect to find everything exactly where they say it. Once you find the correct amount, pour it in your hose aqnd fill the tank. Yes, you should be able to fill from the city water hookup. Look for a valve knob or lever in the water service bay.

RE: Rt 178 north out of Death Valley

I'd go to Scotty's on the way in then go to Stovepipe Wells. Head west from there on 190 to Lone Pine and then north on 395. A long decent into Panamint Valley then a long climb out but then relatively straight and level into Lone Pine. Much shorter than going up to 168. Make sure you have plenty of fuel in DVNP if you've never been there. Fill up when you hit 1/2 a tank as stations are a LONG way apart. Use gen set and roof a/c when traveling the park especially on hills or you'll run the chance of overheating. Stay off any of the dirt roads in the park except Titus Canyon and 20 Mule Team. They can be death on tires. I don't think the RV will fit in Titus Canyon. It get pretty narrow. 168 is a secondary state highway in good condition. Hilly and crooked but all are in that area and all are doable in a 24' Winnie.

RE: Shuttle Launch

When is the upcoming launch initially scheduled for? It hasn't been in our locaL paper.

RE: Sealing Areas on Roof

I 3rd Eternabond. I cleaned my old sealant off first but according to Eternabond it can go right over the old sealant.

RE: Making repair rubber roof,HELP!

I would use Eternabond tape and make the patch overlap the edges by 2-3 inches. GREAT stuff and made exactly for that kind of problem.

RE: Generator problem

Check the air filter. My 7.5 quiet diesel did exactly as you describe. Pulled out the air filter, knocked off the dirt and it started right up and stayed running. I didn't happen to have a spare.

RE: air compressor psi for blowing out lines

I think my manual says 35-40 psi. I don't have it handy but the pressure is low.

RE: Big Bear, Ca

There are a couple of switchbacks going up 18. I'd unhook the toad and have your co-pilot drive it up. The second switchback, turning to the right is extremly sharp and youn will have to swing wide to make it. Big Bear North on the north shore towards Fawnskin is big rig friendly and so is Holloway's in Big Bear Lake. I would call both to see if reservations might be needed. If you have further questions PM me. I worked there for 12 years with the CHP.

RE: Smith Mountain Lake SP, VA

Good you just want to sit and relax as it's out in the boonies. A nice park, but remote.

RE: Newbie Electrical Question- 50 amp coach-30 amp park

In my experience you'll probably be fine with 30 amps. You might have a problem if you try to run a hair dryer, microwave, toaster, electric heater all at one time. Probably kick a breaker. A little of experimenting and you'll know what to do when hairdryer is going etc. We did just fine in central CA where its HOT on a 30 amp system. We just knew not turn turn on too much at one time and got to the point where we almost never kicked a breaker. It usually happened when we were operating a high use item and then the a/c decided to start.

RE: San Diego

Chula Vista Rv Resort or Santee Lakes gets my vote. Camperland by the Bay gets very loud, is expensive, kids oriented, and dumpy IMHO. Chula Vista would be my first choice.

RE: I 77 from I 64 to I 81 through Jefferson National Forest

No problem at all. I live just off I-64 at exit 24 in VA and drive to Charleston all the time. There are some hills but nothing of any real consequence. You'll be continuing south on I-77 from Beckley and there are some hills but nothing to worry about. Just start down the longer ones slow and gear down a gear or two. Keep in mind it is all interstate and good road with light traffic, relatively speaking. If it's clear when you drop down the hill from VA into NC check out the view. Mt. Airy, just into NC is Andy Griffith's home and was the model for Mayberry. Worth a stop for a day or two.

RE: Jack wont retract

If you're at home in MI the retraction will take a long time. Cold weather dramatically affects the time to retract. I usually push my r/f up with a board when I get tired of waiting. New springs will help if yours are old. Lay on the groung and get the model and serial numbers off a front jack and a rear jack. If they're HWH call them with that info and they'll sell/send you the proper springs. Different springs for different sized cylinders.

RE: Air Horn -Dash Switch

My air horn switch is always on except in campgrounds in case I happen to bump it at night. My regular horn works with a light depression of the horn and air horn works with a full depression, provided the "switch" is on. My m/h is an Itasca, the year and make of yours will get you a rapid response from a fellow rig type owner.

RE: AWNING HELP

cman60, Try unrolling as suggested and re-roll. That usually fixed mine. Also, lift up on the handle and while lifted, push in on the support arm. You should see it move in just slightly but that's enough for them not to lock properly. On my new m/h I installed one of the locks like pictured in a previous post. It works great and will keep the material from unfurling even though the rods stay locked in place. Just the right combination of speed and cross winds will unfurl the awning and do considerable damage. I saw the results MANY times during my CHP career especially in wind-prone areas. A very cheap bit of insurance. The wind will also get the fabric on metal covered awnings and electric awnings.
