RE: Honda Pioneer 700-4

I have my eye on the Ranger 800, but this new Honda looks like it might be narrow enough to fit in a truck bed. That would be a nice bonus for me.

Honda Pioneer 700-4

Has anyone found the width and weight for this new model?
My searches have only shown a few details. Hopefully more info will release as we get closer to summer.

RE: Engine Sizes

I previously owned the following chevy's-
2002 5.3
2003 4.8
2004 5.3
Both of the 5.3 trucks were great for all around use and towing within the recommended ratings. The 4.8 was a great daily driver and performed well towing smaller loads. It felt a bit weak towing on the higher side of its recommended ratings.
I had the option to do it over again and chose to go back to the 5.3L.

RE: What if you had 24k to spend on a TV?

See sig line below. I bought it new earlier this year. It wasn't much more than your budget for a nice new truck.
10 months later and I love it more than day 1.
edit to add: Mine is gas.

RE: Propane Honda vs Yamaha

If you plan on using it a lot at home, I like the tri-fuel conversion plan. If this gen is mainly used on the road, I would be okay with gasoline only. Gas is just too easy to replace while traveling. Plus I like the idea of being able to take a spare can that could be used to help keep the truck from going empty in an emergency. (Not so useful if your truck is diesel.)
I like the idea of a Honda 3000 or the twins. One unit to maintain, electric start, and insane quiet. Twins are very popular and theft would be a big concern.
If you had a way to easily carry a Honda 3000 without giving up your bed space....

RE: Integrated brake controller

I have one in my 2011 Chevy and I love it.
My old truck started with one of the cheap controllers. It was terrible. It always felt like the trailer was trying to fight the truck. I switched it for a P3 and couldn't believe how much nicer it was.
When I bought the new truck with integrated controller I was a bit skeptical at first. I was pleasently surprised to find that the factory controller is outstanding.

RE: Do I Need A Dually?

At 2600 lbs in the bed you need to check the numbers carefully. The new trucks have some serious payload available in the 3500 SRW category. The last one I looked at was a 2012 3500 Chevy crew cab / standard bed/ 4x4 and the door sticker listed it at over 4000 lbs payload. This should easily cover your 2600 lbs in the bed plus a few passengers.
FWIW, I could be under GVWR with that load in my 2011 Chevy 2500hd (crew cab, 4x4) as it has approx 2900 lbs payload per door sticker. Personally I don't like to run right up to the max, so I would recommend the 3500.

RE: 1500 VS 2500 Query

I had a 2007 Ram 1500 and a little bitty 25' ultra lite travel trailer. I was still 300lbs over GVWR. I never would have guessed it until I hit the CAT scales.
My guess is that you are over weight on one or more of your limits. Obviously going to the scales is the only way to know for sure.
I can tell you that my 2500hd makes the towing experience so much nicer. Not much noticeable difference when it comes to engine power, but the payload, stopping ability, and overall control are much better.

RE: Ebay VS Amazon

I have stopped using eBay. I find myself ordering from Amazon on a regular basis. Much happier this way.

RE: Couldn't believe my eyes

Tha would be really neat, hard ti imagine how they built them way back then, heck I wasn;t even born yet.
I know what you mean. My parents weren't even born then. Hard to believe it is still on the road.

RE: Just Got my new eu2000i

I'm a fan of following the manual. My guess is that the manuf may have actually written the manual to be somewhat on the safe side. Always works for me.

RE: 2010 RAM 1500 PAYLOAD 4 x 4 CREW CAB

It could be worse.......My new Honda Civic only has 850 lbs of payload per the door sticker. Luckily I've been on a diet.

RE: Gettin' outta dodge with the dodge prep

I like to change my diff fluid every 15-20k miles. When doing an engine oil change, it is a good time to at least check the fluid level.

RE: sewer hook-up

We can go a week on the black tank but taking showers in the HTT fills the gray tank in a day or 2. So "gray water only" doesn't bother us.
This.
We can go probably 2 weeks on the black, but the gray is only about 3-4 days. A gray only restriction wouldn't be any issue for us.

RE: Generator storage

I like to use 100% gas with Stabil added. I fill up the genny to the top and let it run for a bit to get the Stabil gas through the system. Other than that I like to fire it up every other month or so and let it run for about a half hour to ensure everything is in good order for when that emergency occurrs.

RE: Minimalistic camping

I don't have a TC. Instead I have a medium sized 5er, but I completely understand where you are coming from.
We have tons of room for storage and travel with just about 2 of anything a person could want. In the beginning I took the time to use all of the stuff and get it all setup nicely for each trip.
Now I prefer not to even unhitch the truck. The only item I need to unload is my folding chair. On each trip I try to take a little less than the last one, but it's hard to do since most items stay in the 5er permanently.
I secretly wish I could migrate to a TC from the 5er. Unfortunately the DW wants space and stuff.

RE: Erasing the hard drive

I would look at removing the hard drive and giving away the computer with no hard drive. That prevents you from spending any money on a program to help wipe the drive, elimates any chance of somebody recovery personal info off the drive, and allows the new user to choose a drive of the size they need. Hard drives are very cheap these days (especially for smaller older models) so it would cost very little for them to get the PC up and running.

RE: FEMA TT's and holding tanks

A buddy of mine has one. When he first bought it, I owned a 2007 Gulfstream Amerilite BH25LE travel trailer. I have been through my (now sold) TT and his FEMA TT from one end to the other. Both have the same RVIA seal and are constructed nearly identically. The difference being his came with no tanks and had a residential fridge.
I consider the fridge to be a non-issue as I read through RV.net and see that many people are choosing to swap over to a residential style fridge as an upgrade. My buddy really enjoys his and to be honest I like it better than my current RV fridge.
For his FEMA we found a black, grey, and fresh set of tanks on Craigslist for $100 total. We spent around $100 at the plumbing store for various small parts to complete the install. We spent around $59 for a fresh water pump. For under $300 he can go anywhere I can with my fancy 5er. However, he does it for much cheaper and has a better fridge.
I have seen many people post that the FEMA shouldn't be used for regular RV use. The most I find is a somewhat general statement about not being designed for that type of use. I have never found anyone that provided any specific info on why the FEMA TT is different from my last entry level TT. If they are referring to the tank situation, that is easily fixed.
These are just my opinions. Keep in mind this is based on once having an entry level TT while my camping buddy had a FEMA. I spent alot of time doing mods/upgrades, basic maintenance, and repairs to both.

RE: Hitch location

I think most (if not all) Super Duty trucks will have approximately the same distance from axle to end of frame on both short bed and long bed. The real difference between the two come from the axle to the FRONT of the bed.
You likely won't find any issues at all if your hitch is installed in over the axle or barely in front of it.
