RE: Discrimination against RV's bigger than 30'

The Escapees work hard to help with RV parking.

RE: Avoid Oklahoma if retiring

Colorado has very high taxes too. Very high on RVs, 5th wheels and travel trailers! We paid $1,300 on our year old 5th wheel. First year, new 5th wheel license was almost $3,000. Truck was $900 first year and $684 the next year.
This was in a low Colorado tax county. The sales tax in that county was 3.9 but the state gets theirs one way or another. Ann....
Their property taxes are high, state income tax is high!
We are Texans now and do not pay that high Colorado license fee. Nor Colorado high state income tax!

RE: 5ver inside

Our 5th wheel has been outside for 2 years and still looks good. We full time for last year and half but it was sitting outside before this. This is a 2008 and is two years old. We do keep it waxed!

RE: Proper method to lift trailer for tire removal

If you have mor-ryde suspension... you need to call mor-ryde to determine which mor-ryde you have and they will tell you where to put your jack. If you put it in wrong place you could damage something.
Mor-ryde phone number is 574-293-1581

RE: What Full Timer Features do I need for Full Timing.

You may consider the electric fireplace. They do take the chill out. We have two of them in our 5th wheel. Saves on propane. I don't like those little portable heaters sitting around in middle of floor to trip over or knock over.
Washer and dryer is nice. Don't have to go to the laundry room and sit for hours. Besides you don't know what was washed in those washers before you use them.

RE: Newbie question for y'all...

I did not need to store so much stuff in storage!
Love going where ever we want and staying as long or as little as we want. The freedom is great! We usually travel in the summer and sit in warm climate during the winter. Have seen some beautiful parts of this USA.
Did not need so much clothing.
Did not need so many pots and pans! or linens.

RE: Indiana Flying J Fuel Price

Since their fuel tax is so high, why are Indiana's roads so bad?
And Ill. roads are deplorable! :E
So what is Indiana and Illinois doing with their fuel tax?

RE: How closed is CLOSED

People will drive when they can't stay awake, drive because they have to use bathroom and feel stressed, driving and needing a place to get out and walk around to wake up. Accidents waiting to happen.
States need to trim other places not needed or spending to excess.

RE: Help...We're confused

As for the dual pane windows..... We didn't order them with our coach. Our coach has lots of insulation but we still had the sun coming in through the windows bringing heat. So we went to Indiana and had dual pane windows installed at the factory. It is a simple install, 14 windows! Expensive but well worth it.
Anyone that doesn't have them can get them and install them yourself. We could have saved a lot of money installing them ourselves. Didn't know this until had one broken by a motor home. My DH and two friends put the new dual pane window in less then 30 minutes. Has a thick rib of insulation that fits around inside the window before it goes in (that is not visible). No calking!

RE: Washer-Dryer Combo

We have Whirlpool stack units. They hold large loads. Dry quickly.
I ordered them from AJ appliances on line. Very happy with them.
I can wash quilts, also 5 pairs of jeans so you get an idea of how large loads I can do.
Before these in a previous 5th wheel we had the Kenmore stack units and liked them too. I don't think I would be happy with the splendide from some of the things I have heard about them. Just my opinion. :)

RE: Dad lost his job, so this family lives on the road

I'm absolutely not jealous of that guy's situation. I'm not judging him, just his decision, as written in the story. He's probably a really nice guy! I simply feel embarrassed for the way he is placing his family in jeopardy in this economy.
I did not mean you were jealous of his financial situation. I meant maybe you were jealous of him being free to go where ever they want, live where ever they want and have a life style that lot of people do envy.

RE: State police portable scales

We are not overweight because we have been weighed. We got rid of stuff we didn't need. So we are within the legal weights.
We just won't spend money in CA for many reasons. I don't believe we are alone in this.
Hi Martyn. How you doing? Maybe we will run into you all someday again. Tell your wife hello for me. :)

We are not overweight but another reason we do not go to CA for anything. Lot of beautiful country there but also a lot of smog, crime and harassment from CHP.
No thanks! :B

RE: Dad lost his job, so this family lives on the road

I totally agree! Sell the expensive home AND the RV rig! "See the world" in a tent!
He lost his plum job as a Vice President for a Software company, and he can't afford to float $3000/month until he finds a new job??? He apparently has unwittingly publicly exposed some money-management issues. Had he sold the RV rig alone, invested the money in today's economy, the earned interest alone would have solved his immediate problem. And, he would still own an appreciating asset, (the original stick house, if not a smaller more affordable one), that would have slowly continued to build equity, even in this economy.
Who in the world would hire this guy as an executive, now that they know how financially savvy he is!!??
I disagree. Why should he put his family in a tent? You sound jealous of what he is doing.
Would you invest in anything in this economy? With businesses going under every day.
I wish him and his family luck. I don't judge him for anything. I think he made a decision he thought was best and probably is.
Paying for a house, any house would deplete savings if he is unemployed. Jobs are hard to find now.
This housing market is not going to get any better and may get a whole lot worse. The economy could get a lot worse too.
I would be afraid to invest in anything right now. Know too many friends that have lost big bucks in investments and this is just the start.
Everyone should start stock piling food and water. Inflation is coming.

RE: Picking out Full Timers

Can't tell by our ladder. Our ladder fits in the basement of 5th wheel.
We do not put solar lights out until we get to our winter site. Also our awning mat doesn't usually go out until we are staying 5 months during the winter. Same with chairs. Do not carry a lot of junk. Getting ready for the winter yard sale here at the winter resort. Everyone has a chance to get rid of extra stuff.

RE: HELP! Insurance claim may be denied

GMAC has full timing insurance. You have to ask for it. It cost a little less than the regular GMAC insurance. We have had both, so we know the cost. Also they have full replacement on your coach.
I would recommend people ask for this at the beginning.
