RE: Virginia Landing Campground

The barrier island directly off the coast by VA Landing is called Hog Island. It used to be a town on the island called Broadwater. To learn more go the the Barrier Island Center on RT. 13 in Machipongo (about 8 miles south of the turn off to VA Landing)
Here is a little information on Hog Island link

RE: CG choices in Gettysberg & Lancaster, PA

another vote for Old Mill, we stayed there a few weeks ago also and really enjoyed it. Its location puts you right in the middle of everything Lancaster has to offer.

RE: Virginia Landing Campground

This is really good info. We will be prepared for the bugs. I hope.:-) Wonder how the locals cope?
Any kyakers/canoers?
We make out OK -lol. The bugs are bad due to the close proximity of the water and marsh. I live in Exmore which is in the middle of the Shore so we just have gnats and misquitos.
Wachapreague (previous mention) will be having their fireman's carnival every wed - sat now through the middle of July. The have GREAT clam fritters and french fries.
Also for good seafood and good food in general go the the Exmore Diner, its on south main street in the town of Exmore.
Lots of great places to canoe and kyack, just take bug spray.

RE: Castaways, Ocean City, Md

We stayed there in mid May and really enjoyed it. We found the staff friendly and everything VERY clean. The store was not open yet. We stayed one row over from the store/ pool area.
As far as recommendations: Thrasher's French Fires, Dolles caramel popcorn, JR's Ribs, there is a good place on rt 50 to eat - I think its called Waterman's its all you can eat seafood.

RE: WalMart in Maryland

Salisbury, MD. ?
I would have to agree with this post. The Walmart in Fruitland MD (just outside of Salisbury) has a shopping center beside it.
The only other one would be Pocomoke MD, but that is a little out of the way coming from your direction.

RE: Castaways in Ocean City, MD

Just got back from Castaway's, and it was great. The store was not open yet, but it is going to open this Thursday the 21st. We arrived on Friday the 15th, stayed at site #125. The front desk staff was very helpful & friendly. The campground was not crowded, I did have a neighbor on both sides of me, but not across the street or behind. I paid $46 a night and they had a free pancake breakfast on Saturday.
Pool was open and VERY cold. Bathrooms were open and VERY clean.
It was my first visit to Castaway's and I plan on retuning again. Here are some photos of my weekend:

RE: Cherrystone CG...Virgina....Opinions!

Heads up on Cherrystone 2009, there is a 5% amenity charge for use of the facilities this year. They built a "water play" area for kids 12 and under and instead of charging extra for it, they are adding the amenity charge.
Also you can now bring your own golf carts as long as you get them approved my management, prove insurance, and pay $5 a day.

Castaways RV Resort & Campground is fairly new and looks nice. We haven't camped there but its close to Ocean City and runs buses to the beach.
