RE: 2011 Ford SuperDuty Video

I like it, but like a lot of people I'll sit on the side line and see how it does the first year. Ed

RE: Why do big TCs lean back?

The front rail on my Ford is 1/4 inch lower in the front. Does it make it look like the TC is leaning back? Maybe. Does the fact that the rear tires wear a touch more than the front add to the illusion? Maybe. Is it still the best way to see and enjoy this country? Deffinetly. Go Gators. Ed

RE: Going to the Sun and Beyond in a TC

TwoMaineiacs....Good idea to let others drive on the Going to the Sun Road. They will not let you on the that road with the camper and there is an 8 ft wide restriction. I drove our dully on it a few years back and did not get to see much and wish I had taken a ride in one of those old tour bases. The road was closed last year when we were there this time in May. Hope the construction is done. Sorry we will miss you in Maine, we are headed to Long Island off Portland this year. Ed

RE: Just Got Back From Two Months Out West.

Hi Bill....We have driven in most of the same areas out there and some of your pics look like ours. Did you need the 4x4 in the desert. I have been trying to get the wife out there, maybe next time. Too bad you missed Dead Horse SP. Good luck with your Alaska trip, well worth it. Ed

RE: tip for battery water

I use a large syringe with a rubber hose on it. I fill one of the cells and note how much it took. I then fill the other cells the same amount. They don't vary much and works well. You can also check levels with a small mirror and light.
Dave
I don't think I would put my mouth on the end of a hose that has acid on the other end. Dave has the idea. Ed

RE: Bump Stops, Timbrens or SuperSprings

Well John,
I started with the Air Lifts and then added the bump stops. After busting many bolts on the air bags and adjusting the air pressure up down and sidways with no stopping the bolt problem I decided to go with the Super Springs and removed the Air Lifts. I had the springs preloaded so with the camper on it the truck only goes down 2 inches. The camper is on the truck 90% of the time. The ride empty is not all that bad. If I had to do it all over I would add 2 or 3 leafs to the overloads so they would be engaged when loaded. Don't have any problems to date with the Super Springs and the ride and handling are much better than it was with the Air Lifts. Ed

RE: Lance 1191 Cabover Skylight; broken tab

EdFil Is this the one your referring to?
Heki Skylight/Hatch/Emergency Exit
No it was the one I posted in May 2008. I spoke with LT and the part that broke on his was the white protrusion that the latch connects to. He made a home made repair that will work. ED

RE: Lance 1191 Cabover Skylight; broken tab

Lynn. both my latches broke during my trip last Summer. I called Lance and Jim Allen sent the parts to my home and my daughter took them with her on her cruise and we connected in Alaska. I had the skylight taped down untill we foung a good day to replace the assembly. The warrenty was for 1 year and it was two years old then. Check my old post on one there was a picture of a home made system to help hold the skylight down. Don't ever drive with the shade closed because if the skylight opens the shade will get sucked out. I leave shade open and use a car windshield sun shade cut to fit the opening to keep the interior cocl in our Florida Sun. The latches are easy to replace and are not that expensive. I fear they may also go some day they should be made of metal. Ed

RE: OK Remind me again why I want a T/C instead of a 5th Wheel?

We like our TC because we are travelers. Last year we spent 130 days in it to Alaska. Most of it was inside due to the weather, I guess we get along with each other better than most. When we want to travel less a 5th wheel would not be out of the question. We did consider the price of each RV but decided we could travel easier with the 1191. The dinett is 6 ft long and we have had two adults use it comfortably. At this point we love the TC lifestyle. Ed

I had one eat the battery insulation to make a nest somewhere. She made a mistake by trying to eat the peanut butter in the rat trap. I check the motor every week now. Ed

RE: GPS Units

DMas
I had problems with my 2620 when it was 2 yrs old and Garmin replaced it with a new unit. I would contact Garmin and they may do the same for you. The unit I have as a replacement is also a 2620 and has been working fine for 2 yrs. Best advise for all with a GPS is keep it out of the sun, even when drivng. I have had to run the AC on defrost to keep it cool at times. Ed

RE: Leaving for the Fl. Keys, could use advise

Rod, Bahia Honda SP and all Florida SP have sites held for walkins. When I had my boat we liked Bahia Honda since you could dock it there or use the boat ramp. Have a great trip.

RE: Boating at Long Key Fl.

Rod, You can anchor your boat off the camping area but you will have to wade ashore quite a distance. A double anchor would take some of the risk out of it. Ed

RE: water is splashing out of bathroom sink

This splashing thing has happened only once in my 1191. There was water marks on the mirror and water under the laundry contanier in the showere. No water on top of the laundry. The grey water tank at the time was close to full and that was my guess as to why this happened. We make sure the drain stoppers are closed tight and have never had a reacurrance. Ed
