RE: Ford V10 RPM's

In 1999, when our V-10 powered unit was new, I was concerned about no red line on tach, and high reving of the V-10. I called Ford Motorhome customer sevice in Lake Havasu, and they told me there is no red line on the tach, because computer will limit revs to a max of approx 5200, so no way to overrev the engine in normal driving. They said the V-10 is designed to be hi revving, They said the only way to overrev the V-10 is when decending a long grade using engine braking, and that could push the rpms past the recommended limit, and to be VERY careful and not let that happen.

RE: Seven Pounds

Please use caution when fueling (especially GAS) with a cell phone on you, as many/most stations make that illegal, due to the volatality of the fumes, and being ignited by a ringing cell phone..

gas-charged struts replacement

The two large gas-charged struts that assist in raising the bed for access/storage below need to be replaced on our motorhome, as it is becoming very difficult to lift the bed. What do I need to know to replace these, and where can I find them. Note: Its a Monaco product, so no help there. Thanks.........

Starter engagement problem on '99 F-53 V/10 Chassis

When turning ignition switch from "off" to "on" position, everything is normal i.e dash gauges, lights etc. all on, Hydro-max pump running normally. But...the instant ignition switch is turned to the "start" position, EVERYTHING goes DEAD!!! (No dash lites, gauges, hydro-max pump noise....nothing). Checked to make sure shift lever was in Park or Neutral, parking brake set, etc. By using "battery boost" switch from house batteries, and wiggling some wires around engine battery, starter will usually engage (so far). I know past posts have discussed some type of "relay or solonoid" that goes bad on this model chassis (maybe on fender area, close to engine battery??) I believe even one post mentioned a relay under the doghouse somewhere... Any opinions/suggestions would be most appreciated, especially the description/location of any of these problem items. Thanks for all the expert advice,...this is a most useful forum....

RE: Slide will not open

not sure what type system you have, but if its a Power Gear rack-and-pinion gear driven system, the "shear pins" are a favorite nuisance to break. hope this helps....

infrared heat sensor question

I purchased an infrared heat sensing device at a recent rally, mainly to check tire temperatures. It seems to work well, but how in the heck do you place/aim it to sense the temperature of the "inside" duals???? Mudflaps, framing, etc. seem to prevent a clear shot of an inside dual. Any suggestions???? And, thanks in advance....

6-way adjustable power passenger seat not working

The passenger side 6-way power adjustable seat on my 2000 LaPalma has stopped working. It is a Flexsteel seat, but not sure if the adjusting mechanism (seat base), is made by them, or if Monaco got it from some other vendor. At first,I was pretty sure it was the switch, but replaced it and still not working. The motor will click and groan in a couple of the six switch positions, but not move the seat. (This also indicates there is power to the switch.) Anyone had similar problems??? Any suggestions as to a fix would be appreciated... As usual, really enjoy this great forum!!! Thanks......

procedure for changing transmission fluid , and brake fluid

I need to have the transmission fluid changed in my '99 Ford F-53 chassis. (56,00 miles). The procedure the local Ford garage uses, is to back flush the tranny fluid, replacing it with fresh fluid during this process. They do not drop the pan, or replace the filter (if it has one), saying any contaniments in the filter or system will be flushed/reverse flushed out. They said this now is the Ford recommended procedure. Changing the brake fluid is similar, replacing with new fluid as the old is forced out. I also wanted the brake pads checked, and they said they have a camera that they can use to inspect the pads, without removing the wheels. Now, fellas, what do you think of these procedures??? I know by reading this form regularly, that I imagine that many of you have experienced some or all of these procedures... Opinions/advice please..... Thanks for making this such a great forum!!!! walmart a no,no for engine battery purchase/installation

I recently needed a new engine battery for my clsss A gasser. I called our local super walmart to determine if they had correct size, which they did. I psrked just outside one of their big overhead doors of their tire and lube express area, and went in to do paperwork, etc. When I told the clerk what I needed, he turned and disappeared. He soon returned with a fellow with a nametag showing "tire and lube express- manager". This fellow proceedes to explain in very indifferent tones, that this "is not an RV-friendly service garage". I said, sir, all I want as an engine battery (easily accessable), installed in the front of my gas engine motorhome. He then said sorry, insurance rules prohibit working on a vehicle outside of the garage building. I said, I am two feet outside of our door....all you have to do is reach down in front of the engine, remove the old bsttery, and hook up the new one. Well......, long story short: he was adamant about not doing this for me, and became more and more unwilling and uncaring about talking to me further. Soooo, I told him I would not be doing any more business at that facility (as if he could care), and that I would be informing the store manager of his indifference, and also post this on this internet site to alert other motorhome owners to not bother trying to do battery/installation business at walmart. Now, have any of you encountered a similar problem at walmart, or is this an isolated incident involving an indifferent "associate" here in Burlington, Iowa?????? P.S. I had previously purchased two other engine batteries (one in a pick up, and one in a car), at this same walmart, and both had been installed outside the main garage in the adjacent parking lot. P.S.S. On my way home, I stopped at an Autozone store, and purchased my new battery. And...., they were very happy to install the new battery.....out in their parking lot!!!! Thsnks for your input/opinions, and as usual, I very much enjoy this great forum. Elwin Kendell

RE: Levelers, Air vs hydraulic jacks? Difference?

Imho, FOUR point hydraulics are the best... I have never been in a "air leveled" coach that didn't bounce around when moving around inside... Re jacks sinking into soft surfaces: One can carry four approx. 15"X15" square pieces of outdoor marine-grade plywood, with a hole drilled in one corner (for awning hook/assistance for placing under jack), if on the RARE occasion one is parking on soft surfaces. (Many rv parks REQUIRE reinforcement under jacks). Simple solution that, surprisingly, none of the posts have mentioned so far... Works great for me the last ten years with a 26,000 pound rig...

battery watering device

I am close to purchasing one of those battery watering devices consisting of a manifold across each bank of cells, interconnected connected via plastic tubing to a refill squeeze bulb pump which connects to your distilled water jug. Does anyone have experience with this system, and the installation procedure, useage, or anything else I might need to know. I have two 6 volt golf cart batteries connected together to produce 12 volts for the coach. Thanks for your input. This is a great forum!!!!

"sweating" 6v golf cart house batteries

After taking our motorhome out of five Winter months storage in a dry, clean, but unheated Butler steel building (not plugged in), I noticed something I had not encountered in the previous eight years of storage in this same facility..... Both of the two year old batteries were wet, to the point moisture had puddled on the metal bay bottom. I couldn't tell if is it was condensation or electrolyte or what. Electrolyte level is where it should be. I wiped them down, and plugged in to electricity here at home, and after a few days....same thing. I've never seen anything like this before, in my 40+ years of RVing. Any ideas/suggestions from you guys??? Thanks in advance, and I do enjoy this forum.... Elwin K.

My Honda dealer is telling me that if i don't use genuine Honda oil filters, there is a danger of burning up my engine-something about a "bypass valve". etc..... I have an '05, purchased new. Any advice/comments from cr-v owners would be appreciated.. What are you using,...any problems etc. thanks

RE: Fantastic Vent Fan

To MartyAndPeg: Fantastic now makes "snap in-friction fit" screens, with no screws to remove/replace. They work great, except for fitting a bit tight. Suggest you try them.
