RE: Truck Stop Etiquette

At most truck stops the truckers fuel up and then they pull forward, out of the fueling area, to allow someone else to use the pump and then they go pay. They expect the RV's using the pumps to do the same thing.
Agree with above.
I use the truckstop lanes whenever I am towing, and have never had any issues with the other drivers or mgmt. I often have people come up and ask questions about the setup. I have not had issues with foaming from the high speed pumps, other than the fact that you usually can't engage the auto shutoff handle, as it does pump very fast, so I just stand there and squeeze for about 2-3 minutes.
Agree with both above, have never had a problem at any truck stops.

RE: Tow a Jeep behind?

Thanks for the replies and advice. I have the class A CDL covered.
Now for that new 5er and keep total length 65' or less for the train. See my profile, can't convince the DW to get rid of the Rhino and get a Suzuki Samurai.

RE: Suggestions for Inexpensive, lightweight dinghy

We have had both a 4wd 2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara and a 4wd 2002 Chevy Tracker. They make great tow vehicles with no modifications and they are fun to drive and will go anywhere. Of course you will need a towing bracket on the car and you should have a brake system. The Ready Brake system is inexpensive and works very well. We had that system with our Suzuki and it worked flawlessly.
Great choices and don't forget the Suzuki Samurai......

RE: Tow a Jeep behind?

But I think it can be done only behind a 5er - not a trailer.
That's right for California, will also need CDL with doubles endorsment.

Be sure to read the fine print as most don't cover wall separation, cabinets coming off the walls and any of the structure.

RE: Bumper to trailer minimum distance - 5th Wheel

On my SB I had the hitch mounted 2" behind the axle and have had no adverse effects in towing and handling. You deffinently have the truck to handle the weight.

RE: All this talk about CA drivers licenses......

You have access to the internet, just lookup the phone # for the state patrols that you plan going thru and call them. I use my cell phone as no long distance charge. At 58' and 1 trailer they won't even look at you here. Most people get poped because they were maybe running a little to fast or some other infraction that brought some attention to them.

RE: towing multi objects

I knew CA required a Class A CDL with doubles endorsement for towing RV doubles, but I had never heard of the medical certificate requirement, nor was I aware that CA could require residents from other States to comply with THEIR licensing regulations. If that is so, what about towing heavy fifth wheels? Do we need to comply with CA license upgrade there as well? If so, I will just stay out of CA with heavy trailers or doubles!
Remember, the regulations for commercial operators and RV operators are entirely different!
In Calif a CDL with doubles endorsment requires a valid medical card, a physical every 2 years. If your legal in your state your legal here, no need to get 48 drivers lic............A MH pulling a jeep with a trailer will not fly here as the 1st towed vehicle needs to be on a 5er type hitch (locking king pin).

RE: State police portable scales

They do in Kalifornia - especially on the roads leading to Glamis in Southern Kalifornia. Overweight without the right license (Non-Commerical Class-A IIRC...) you get a ticket, and park the rig until someone with the right license comes to drive it away.
You trying to make fun of California?
It's about time someone did, not that Kalifornia is joke..... Gunpilot77, they don't weight them, but they are starting to check for proper license at these locations.

RE: Walensburg to Grand Junction, CO.- Summer 2010

I'd go the 160 to Durango then 550 to Montrose. Just take your time on the 550 as it is doable, but harry in spots, the views are fantastic. Let me recomend the Cedar Creek RV Park in Montrose, nice and quite and a good place to go out to the Black Canyon.

RE: What % Grade Is a Concern For 5er Towing?

My 500' long driveway (with curves) varies from 17%-20% .. my PSD pulls my TH up it like it's not even there and I'm sure I'm getting 14 mpg doing it. :B
LMAO...........It's not the % of the grade, it's the knowlege of how to get up or down safely.

RE: Wheel Bearings

I have a 5 year old truck with 60,000 miles on it, never had the wheels off. Why do trailers need annual wheel bearing service when every other vehicle I have owned only gets bearing service when the brakes are replaced?
My friend had his trailer done last month and it cost him $200 (4 wheels), good profit for the rv dealer. Also it does not take lots and lots of grease.
