RE: Texas for first-timer

Spent last year in Florida; want to give Texas a try this winter. Looking for a park with comfortable weather (low 80's and below), good Texas stuff to see and do within, say, 100 miles or so, and....most important...lots of activities to stay involved and not get bored. Price is not a big concern; I'd rather pay a bit more and have a rewarding winter season. Suggestions are welcome! Thanks, Dave Try a month in the valley I think this would fit what you're looking for. http://www.llanogranderesort.com In the Valley there will be more activities then you have time for. Hill country is real nice with lots of interesting things to see. We have also enjoyed the coast but not being a fisherman would get bored there for a full season. It can get cold there with the wind from the water.

RE: 2013 Chevy Spark

Take a look at the Honda Fit. Not heavy can be towed all wheels down auto or manual. Good storage space excellent service record. We love ours.

RE: Indiana Campgrounds Open in November

Try here they are open all year. http://www.4hfair.org/camping.htm (Elkhart County Fairgrounds) We strayed here last year after we had work done at Forest River in Elkhart. Your factory in Goshen my also have hookups for you at their plant.

RE: What do Canadians say at border crossing to U.S.

In an RV you will almost always be asked about food. We make a list of food when we load up and when they ask we hand them the list. I have been told we like list people. I find its good to say I'm going to and name the place. (Q) How long are you staying? (A) We must be home no later then. Date. We always take a tax or utility bill with our Canadian address but have never been asked for it. Take off you sun glassed and look them directly in the eyes.

RE: Circle Check for Class A Motor Home in Ontario

michelb: I have taken my coach over the scale ready to travel and I'm well under the 11,000 Kg. One of the reasons for getting the Fit was the light weight. This is copied from Highway Traffic Act ONTARIO REGULATION 340/94 DRIVERS’ LICENCES Consolidation Period: From September 4, 2012 to the e-Laws currency date. Last amendment: O. Reg. 251/12. Class G — any motor vehicle not exceeding 11,000 kilograms gross weight or registered gross weight and any combination of a motor vehicle not exceeding a total gross weight or registered gross weight of 11,000 kilograms and towed vehicles where the towed vehicles do not exceed a total gross weight of 4,600 kilograms Did I miss interpret that? The Fit is way under the 4.600 Kg I do think we should all be doing a circle check each day if it's the law or not.

RE: Circle Check for Class A Motor Home in Ontario

RedAce: is right if you don't have air brakes you do not need a special license. Not many gas coach's are over 11,000 kg. The special license thing was what made me go with gas.

RE: Lazy Palms Ranch, Edinburg, Tx

We stayed there some years ago. There sites are a good size but it is a long way out of Edinburg. When we were there the sand burs were so bad our dog could not walk on the grass. I understand that there are new operators and that may be better. If you go down by way of 281 stop there for a few days on your way to the valley. Drive down the twenty miles to 83 there are many parks east and west of 281 for you to look at. You will not have a hard time finding a site without reservations.

RE: Cell Phone Canadians wintering in the US

We use Skype for out going calls to phone # both in US & Canada. It is very low cost per minute. We have been taking our Canadian Solo ($15.00 100 min. per month) along to the US for emergencies. They are expensive to use in the US but still less then our Bell plan was with the North American plan. May get a Tracfone next year.

RE: Flying J Card

It's Fixed To-day I got my fax through and I called in to make sure they got it. I got to talk to a live person and he found the fax and everything was OK. A little later I got an email informing me that: The settlement amount will be drafted from your bank account tomorrow or the next business day. So once it comes out of my account I will feel better. Thank You Denver Care Team for your help.

RE: Flying J Card

Thank you Denver Care Team: Today I tried to pay it by the website and it did not work either. I called in twice and each time was told by the machine that my call is important to them and got switched to line that went dead. I sent them an other email I'm waiting to see what happens next. I do all my banking on the Web so I don't expect any problems with this. I wonder if it's the cross border thing. Are there any Canadians on here with this card?

Flying J Card

I'm having a very frustrating time with the direct debit to my bank account from flying J. In the spring I sent in all the information with void check and talked to them on the phone when they could not figure out the Canadian banking info. I then called to make sure everything was Ok and the person I talked to told me they had everything it just had not been entered into the system yet. When I got my bill by email it did not make any reference to direct debit I called and they told me they did not have the bank info and their form from me. But he could email it to me. When I got home this afternoon the form had not come. So I sent them an other email and someone there sent it in about an hour. I filled it all in and tried to fax it and I could not get through to them. For a Canadian it always involves some extra steps to pay at the pump at most USA stations. They want our zip code and our postal code has numbers and letters so we cannot put them in the pump. That means I have to ask DW to go in with a credit card and stand there while I pump so they will turn on the pump. I like that with the Flying J card I can put in the card and the code and I'm good to go. It is just so frustrating when you try to do everything right and we just can't make it work out.

RE: RGV now Az. shd we Cal-am there?

We are also thinking about Arizona this coming winter. We don't go until January. If we go without a reservation we will find a site. In RGV I know we can always find a good site but I don't know about AZ.

RE: 1st time Texas snowbirds

We have a friend who is an MD that has lived in the valley for many years and they drink the tap water. We buy water for tea and coffee from the dispensers at HEB SUPERMARKET for 15 cents per gallon.

RE: PEI.................2013 !

We are on our way home from there. We stayed at The Highlands in New Glasgow. It's not on the beach but has a lot of trees. Three way hookups very clean and the owners are great. Wi-Fi a little slow in some parts of the park. We would stay there again.

RE: ease of setting up motorhome vs 5th wheel

We just went from a 5th to a MH after more then 15 years and are happy with the change. A crew cab dually is not a handy or economical second car when we are home. When I over heard my DW say to a friend I don't know why we didn't do this long ago I felt good with the change. Let your wife pick a floor plan she likes and you will both be happy.

RE: Slingbox usage to obtain Expressvu TV service in US States

We live in condo and Bell installed a dish on the roof of the building. Now I can get tv from Bell and could take the dish south with us. I can't put a Shaw dish on the condo and I don't want to pay for two different services. So I will just watch the tv I can get from the antenna and get the Canadian news from the Internet.

RE: Caught in the middle,Travel Ins. and Hospital Claims Battle

About ten years ago my DW had to go to a hospital in San Antonio TX. They did take the information for our Canadian insurance company and billed them. About a month later we received a bill from the MD. We turned it over to the insurance company. And never heard about it again. Who was your insurance company? Do they look after the bill when you turn it over to them?

RE: television antenna question

I had that one time. The cable that goes from the antenna down through the roof has a little boot that goes over the spot where it goes through the roof. When ours started to leek I found that boot had pulled up I put it back down and called it. That fixed ours.
