RE: The Insider’s Guide to Buying a Pop-Up Camper

What I don't understand is why you're so upset with me personally. Yes, I was impressed by what I saw. So what? You can disagree with me without the personal attack.
Where is the personal attack?
I am not upset with you at all. You asked a question and I answered the question. Was I supposed to sugar coat my answer?
As far as the XP I don't disagree with you whatsoever about the build quality. I saw one in person for the first time last weekend and I was very impressed.

RE: The Insider’s Guide to Buying a Pop-Up Camper

it seems that there's a history here that I don't know about.
You have zero credibility.
Instead of introducing yourself and hanging around for a while and getting to know folks on this forum your very first post sounds a whole lot like an advertisement for an XP Camper rather than a buying guide for a pop up camper.

RE: Best camping chair

I've tried a lot of chairs over the years. We have the lounge style chairs that we keep on the ladder and I keep a couple of bag chairs in the Jeep. We've had directors chairs, beach chairs, etc.
A year ago some friends brought a couple club chairs to a campout. We tried them out and they are the most comfortable camping chair we have ever sat in. They are padded and keep you a little warmer on cold nights and the front does not cut into your legs. We bought a couple and have been using them ever since.

RE: Attn: Ford V10 Owners

Lots of factors involved in mpg. I can't drive 55. I pay the price in mpg. If I actually cared about mpg I would tent camp in a Prius and drive 55.
I averaged 7-8 mpg on my trip to Colorado with my 2 valve V10. Weight was 17,000# Overdrive was off the whole trip. 65-70mph on the open road. 40mph up the 10,000 passes at 5000 rpms.

RE: Learning a Lesson ... Jack Conversions

Option #4) Get Andy and Max to help you manually jack the camper up and down and save your money.
BTW...stop taking up four spaces when you park at the strip mall. It gives all of us TCers a bad name :)

RE: Where you going for Labor Day?

In SoCal if you do not have a site reserved 6mo or more in advance, you are not camping anywhere on a holiday weekend.
I camp most holiday weekends in So Cal and 99% of the time without reservations. There are millions of acres of public lands available for camping in and around So Cal.
I am headed up to Bishop this weekend and we will have no trouble finding our own little slice of heaven.

RE: San Juan Mountains trip report

Great trip report and pictures Ben. It is an amazing area!
We stayed at 4J for 3 nights in 2009. We had one of the sites right on the Uncompahgre River.

RE: Forget your secret spots and take a tape measure camping

For a while the idea was bandied about to have groups adopt areas to take care of like the freeway adoption plan, but I believe the areas too large and groups too few to have a real effect.
The San Bernardino National Forest has an Adopt-A-Trail Program. Over 45,000 hours were donated last year between the OHV Volunteer Program and the Adopt-A-Trail Program.
We do what we can but no doubt the USFS is extremely underfunded to properly patrol the forest and deal with the knuckleheads.

RE: Forgive my opinion... not revealing free camp spots

Super_Dave, the question is where do we draw the line. Can I share your money and toys for instance? How about that nice boat in your signature? :)
Can you use any poorer of an analogy to try to make your point.
We share information on this forum. That is where the line is drawn. Except for super secret campsites and then the selfish move the line a bit to justify not sharing information.

RE: Forgive my opinion... not revealing free camp spots

You have to be pretty arrogant and selfish to think that somehow you are entitled to always have that secret spot just for you.
What part of PUBLIC LAND are you having trouble understanding?
I share all my camp spots on the internet in the hopes that someone else may get the same enjoyment out of them that I do. I typically only use the same spot once every couple of years and I enjoy reading reports of others who have had a memorable weekend in a spot that I shared.
