RE: Cardinal Wife Wants is Too Heavy!!

WOW - I'm thinking Mama must be pretty spoiled. ;)
HAHAHA, yeah she is....we are both in our 40's, and I try all the time to show her every day how I appreciate her raising our 4 kids and everything else she does to keep our household going....especially since she gave up her career at NCR to do so.
I'm just glad she's not a spender, as a matter of fact she hates shopping. However, she's like a pitbull when she latches onto something that hit's her emotions like this trailer....hahaha

RE: check lug nuts

I check before every trip. My wife lost a wheel last month when her and her sister went on a trip without me.

RE: Cardinal Wife Wants is Too Heavy!!

Hello all again,
Yeah, here are the specs for my year/model truck. Unfortunately the Tow Boss package didn't come out until 05:
2004 Ford F350 CrewCab Dually 6.0 Diesel
Front GAWR 4850
Rear GAWR 8250
GVWR 11,000
GCWR 20,000
Max Trailer: 12,800
I am taking my entire rig this week to get weighed at the truck scales here locally to get my exact TW weights loaded with full fuel and family/gear as well as my current trailer to get exact weights to see exactly what I am dealing with here.
I prefer NOT to get a new truck, after all my current one only has 59k miles on it, and let's face it, these trucks are not cheap!! However, it's still better than an upset wife!!! hahaha :)
Have a great day all..

Cardinal Wife Wants is Too Heavy!!

Hello all!!
My wife is in love with the Cardinal 3860. Specifically, she loves how the "living room area" has it's own door so is separated from kitchen area, as is the master bedroom from the bathroom.
However, it's too heavy for my 2004 Ford F350 Dually.....It's dry weight of 14325 (brochure dry weight, not actual of one we looked at) is over my total trailer weight of 12,900
Does anyone else know of a similiar floorplan? The search is on...she really wants it, but I prefer not to have to get a new truck if I don't have to...
Seems all the trailers she likes is over my weight limits...sigh...

RE: Tire Conclusions

That is what I did and the only negative was that my tire chocks didn't fit in the smaller space. I went and purchased new ones at camping world that were designed for smaller space between the tires.
I purchased these, they fit in a space as small as 1 3/8 inch.

I'm very happy with my setup now. You've made a great choice.

Properly Weigh Rig at Scales..

Hello!
I'm going to take my rig to local truck scales to get some weights.
Can someone confirm that this is what I want to do.
1. Load up truck with all "ready to go" stuff. Include hitch, full tank fuel, kids, etc... Do not hook up trailer at this time.
2. Weigh Front axle
3. Weigh Rear axle
4. Weigh entire truck (Is this step unneccessary? Shouldn't Front + Rear = Total?)
5. Hook up trailer (loaded as usual for a trip)
6. Re-weigh rear axle
7. Weigh trailer (with truck off the scale)
8. Weigh entire setup (Is this unneccessary since Weighed Rear + Trailer = Total Setup weight?)
Never done this before, just want to make sure I get it done correctly.
We are shopping for new trailer, so I'd like to know what size 5er I can handle safely, plus know for sure what I'm towing now for comparisons sake.
As always, thanks everyone.

Buy one of these, makes all the difference in the world....still take a while to cool down, but cools down much better. Wife said it made a huge difference.

RE: Riding Gear

+1 on Rocky Mountain people....
My family are all dirt bikers, 2 young one's on XR 80's, 2 younger ones on 50's, and my wife and I on 250's. We are always geared up. Always.
When we are on my street bike, same thing.
Whether on street or off road, it's ATGATT or "all the gear all the time"

Congrats on new toyhauler! My wife and I are looking at fusions now and really like them.
I'm currently running BF Goodrich Commercial T/A's on my 5er and am very happy with them.

RE: They'll be fine... they'll be fine... they'll be fine...

All is well this morning. Loose lug nuts caused issue.
She is back on the road and is happy she survived.
I told her to go ahead and extend her stay at the beach if she wants.
Thanks again to everyone.....check your lug nuts!!

RE: They'll be fine... they'll be fine... they'll be fine...

She is at Wood Smoke Family Campground. The owners said they know someone at your store in Columbia Marcus, and will be calling CW for her in the morning to arrange someone to fix it.
Thank you so much for your offer of help an assistance. I'm sure CW will be able to help and that they have a mechanic that can take care of her.
Thanks so much for your and everyone elses concern.

RE: They'll be fine... they'll be fine... they'll be fine...

Well, she had to pull over in another campground by Columbia. No one can fix the wheel, as parts are just not available due to it being Sunday and everyone is closed.
She's doing fine, and hopefully can get the wheel fixed tomorrow. WalMart was not able to remove the old studs for whatever reason.
She's close to a Camping World and she has a call into them to help in the morning.
What a first trip for someone huh?

RE: They'll be fine... they'll be fine... they'll be fine...

She's doing great. She is at a Walmart and they are replacing both tires and wheels (I just don't want to chance it that the other tire was overstressed in any way).
She admitted to side striking a tall curb (I taught her when in doubt to go OVER curbs, not to side strike them) but she thought she could make it.
I'm very proud of her, and she says it's a learning experince for her. Axles check out good per mechanic, so all we are looking at are a couple of wheels and tires.
I praise God every day for giving me such a great wife. I think her "Irish Stubborness" is working to her advantage now, she won't let this beat her (although she feels awful about doing it, I told her not to worry, much better than finding out she was in an accident).
She continues to say that RV'ers have been helping her out the entire time.
Keep you all posted. I feel hopeless being here in Georgia, but she seems to be handling it wonderfuly.
She also said this won't stop her from doing it again.....God I love this woman.... :)
