RE: leaky rain gutters

The rail our awning slides into has a seem like that, frustrating as hell cuz water always ends up dripping onto the table we have our stove and BBQ on, drives me crazy.

RE: Water damage help

I rebuilt the whole front wall of our 94 Nomad, it was leaking at the clearance lights even though I'd sealed them many times.
The alum comes off pretty easily, start at the bottom and take them off till you get up to the point of the leak, just take your time and think about it, you'll be fine. I rebuilt the whole thing, inside panelling, framing and new exterior aluminium, put checkerplate on the lower 2 feet or so, we travel a lot of gravel roads.
Here's a pic of it when we sold it a couple years ag:

Good luck.

RE: Advice needed please!

Good choice, if you started tearing it apart to repair it you probably wouldn't like what you find and if you're paying to get it fixed it might end up costing more than it's worth. Sell it cheap, take the loss and move on.

Nice job on the hanger supports, did the same to mine after finding some cracks developing over the centre hangers of our Lippert frame:

Yes I agree, why an F-450? I for one would pick the Cummins over the V8 mess under the hood of a Ford (or GM)

RE: HD Truck Owners- why did you choose a TT?

If you own a HD truck, capable of towing a fiver, why did you choose a TT?
I would ask if you have a HD capable of towing a nice roomy trailer why would you choose a 5th wheel?
Not everyone thinks the ultimate RV is a big honking 15 foot tall 5th wheel.
I for one will NEVER own one, I like to carry a boat or 2 ontop of by boat rack and still have an 8 foot covered box for all the rest of the gear we take with us, and not have to deal with the hitch in the back of the truck when we're at home, then have to put the canopy (topper) on again.
9200 # towing 7200# handles better than .
.
Handles better than what¿?

RE: Charging Travel Trailer Batteries with Generator

I respectfully disagree. Many people stop and check out my diesel generator when it's running. Some even say something, but I can't a always catch what they're saying.

The second one you posted weighs 215 lbs and burns 1/2 gal/hr on a 2750 watt load. I fail to see where you are trying to go with this :h My Champion out performs it on gas and the head will last 10X longer than this would.
lol
I was wondering how long it would take for a Champion owner to jump into this...

RE: getting in the bathroom with slide in .

One other thing to be aware of....
One shouldn't use the slides when they are in. There is NO support under them and they are really just sort of floating/hanging a inch or so above the floor. They are only attached to the slide mechanisim by the outer wall. Putting weight (such as sitting in the dinette) in them in this position will put a huge amount of force on them due to the leverage.
Okay, now ya got me wondering; if that's the case what about all the weight in the slide, storage under the nook etc, not to mention many slides have fridges full of food in them, pantries full of can's etc.

RE: getting in the bathroom with slide in .

I have a 1968 chevy van sitting in a sea container , I made it into a convertable , cut the roof off . Oak trim with roll bar . Haven't pulled it out in 10 years .
If I can find a pic I will post it .. I took 2nd place , early gm radical ,at the eastern van nationals in the late 90's.
Sprinker - you should take a look at VCVC.com which is the Vintage Chevy Van Club. It's for early vans from 1964 to 1970 (flat fronts). We would love to see a picture of your 68. Larry
OOPS, its VCVC.org
Those vans remind me of my high school years (vans were really big back then), went to the site to look at the pics but the gallery is locked up, for members only? Too bad.

RE: Charging Travel Trailer Batteries with Generator

Fisherguy, you have a good set-up. Your recharge time is just fine IMO. some of us still have a copy of the info you posted on that including the excellent table and the graph to go with it. Gets a mention every so often. Very useful reference.
Thanks Barry! ;)
Salvo really helped me with the graph. (Errr, I think it was Salvo, I had a lotta people helping when I did that)

RE: Charging Travel Trailer Batteries with Generator

The PD9280 on 240AH is starting at 80/240 = 33% charging rate. With a 14.4v absorption voltage, tapering would begin at around 63% SOC.
Don't know what the PD needs to see initially to go into bulk 14.4 vice the 13.6v, but ASSuming it would need to be before tapering would start.
Meanwhile the PD9260 is on say 440AH. 60/440 = 13.6% initial charging rate. At 14.4 vabs, tapering should begin around 83% SOC.
So it is easy to see why that 60 usually does bulk right away, and why Fisherguy usually needs his pendant to force 14.4v.
OTOH, I would be upset if that PD9260 only did 45amps. We know that PDs taper from rating a bit at start instead of doing constant amps in bulk, but not that bad. Fisherguy's 80 does 76 at first, eg. I would think the 60 should be in the mid 50s instead of the mid 40s.
Is there a "wiring issue" with that PD9260 installation?
I've seen over 80 at start-up but that doesn't last long.
The PD's been working out great, the taper doesn't bother me, it gets the job done quickly.
I wouldn't run ANY generator in a camp ground 24/7 no matter how quiet it is and I can't see any diesel generator being anything close to quiet.
Even the in the bush fish camps I've been to don't do that, why have it running when you don't need it? (like when you're sleeping)

RE: Charging Travel Trailer Batteries with Generator

That's interesting, what kinda batteries do you have? With my 6 volt Trojans I find they've gotta be pretty low for the 9280 to go into bulk automatically.

RE: Charging Travel Trailer Batteries with Generator

I think the pendant is a MUST HAVE if using a generator to power the PD to charge your battery, it allows you to force the PD into bulk mode for maximum current to the batteries, shortening the length of time you need to run the generator.

RE: getting in the bathroom with slide in .

Hi Fisherguy (just across the border from us, Blaine). Like I said, been there, done that. We've had several TT's w/slideouts and they were okay, but they certainly were a hassle when travelling, or backing into campsites, had to avoid hook-up pedestal. Last year we decided to downsize and go retro. Got rid of the Chevy Express van and 30' Arctic Fox w/two slides, so we know how nice slides can be but also how inconvienient. Went back to 1965 Chevy Van tow vehicle and bought a no-slide 85 Wilderness. We love it, and its all paid for. Don't miss the slides at all.
We go down to Blaine when quite often to pick up stuff at Hagens.
We had the 23ft 94 Nomad since new, got 16 years out of it when we took the kids camping, it had bunks. Now that we're mostly on our own we can't imagine not having a slide, (we have 2 slides now).
Our only stay at a conventional camp-site was coming home from picking it up in Spokane, other than that we boondock.
I can't imagine doing what you've done but it's great you were able to, we seam to be bringing MORE creature comforts (sat dish, tv etc) without the kids and in 2-3 yrs when we retire we'll get a lot more use out of it, this 6 weeks holidays per year really sucks! ;)

Ya, my PD plugs into another plug I put in under the front sofa, my PD is still in place with the
breaker turned off. I have a spare in case the PD packs it in.

RE: Charging Travel Trailer Batteries with Generator

Just for info,....
And when using a small generator, it is much better to power the converter only.
This will mean a rewire of the ac input to the converter.
In other words, my Honda is connected to the converter only, not to the main power cord.
No need to rewire anything, just don't have the AC on when using the genny and put the fridge on propane manually.
You're right,....no need to.
Did you miss the part about it "is much better to" ??
It makes it fool proof. No more forgetting to turn the fridge to propane only, and anything else you mite need to remember when running the whole house on a small 1000 watt generator
Okay so when you go home do you rewire the converter again to charge your batteries? Seems like a hassle that's not needed.
As for forgetting to switch the fridge to propane, you'll soon
figure it out after blowing the genny breaker a few times.
If you have a big converter like my PD9280 you'll need a 2000 watt genny.
