RE: CB radio

No, but that's getting pretty rare these days, especially where there's traffic. In any case, the question originally was about using a CB to communicate with your buddies going down the road. My point was we use our cell phones. Just to check, I just polled my buddies, and none of them have a CB. They said, "dude, we'd just call you on your phone." Some of them really flipped out when I told them they would have to drill a hole in their fender to install the antenna. So it wouldn't do any good to get a CB because I wouldn't have anyone at the other end, unless I wanted to talk to truckers.

RE: CB radio

Turn on traffic in pGoogle maps...shows you that in detail. Also have an app that maps out all incidents reported by Highway Patrol.

RE: CB radio

When we're traveling in groups we use this newfangled invention called a cell phone. Have you exchanged phone numbers with every trucker on the road on which you are driving? No...but I'm not really looking to talk to truckers.

RE: Roof Box

We have a large Thule box that hauls six pairs of skis. (That's our "quiver," there's just two of us.). It's great because I just leave them in their when we get home. We used to have to load and unload them every weekend.

RE: how do you haul skis to the slopes with your TC

I understand the issue of dirt / grime bindings; however, I grew up running my skis to and from ski trips and weekends on the local hill firmly on roof-top-racks. I have never in my whole life ever had an issue with binding failure due to dirt etc. Is the issue the fact that the back of the camper attracts so much dirt, grime and muck? More than the roof? I think so. Like you, I've hauled skis on my roof for decades without a problem. Just recently on the roof of my camper, but I just got a pod for them. In any case, no way would I carry them on the back of the camper -- way to dirty. I decided not to haul bicycles back there for the same reason,

In a Yakima pod on the rack on the roof. Before that just had a ski rack up there.

RE: Tires - What to buy?

Well, ended up getting Goodyear Silent Armours. Mostly because my buddy TCCruzin wouldn't let me forget it if I didn't take his advice. But also because I liked the winter rating, supposedly they are made for heavy loads, and they're a good compromise between traction and drivability. Just got them today so Ill see how they do.

RE: Lance 845

I have a F-250 diesel with an 845. I have air bags, Rancho adjustable shocks, and rear anti-sway bar, all of which are necessary. The 845 rides pretty good, but its still pushing it. Your F-350 will be better because it has the extra overload spring.

RE: How low do they go?

I routinely stay for the weekend in my 2009 Lance 845 down to single digits at night and below freezing during the day while skiing in the Sierra. It has the winter package. The valve to dump my gray water freezes but the water inside is usually ok. Only get freezing problems when it's below zero. Count on using lots of electricity to run your heater motor. I sometimes use 80 amp-hours a day. I've upgraded the batteries to have 240 amp-hour capacity. Also, sometimes the propane regulator at the tank tends to freeze. Usually can unfreeze it by jiggling it, although sometimes Ive had to start-up my generator and warm it with a blow dryer. Besides that, I always stay perfectly warm.

Tires - What to buy?

I'd appreciate any suggestions as to what new tires to get. I have a 2010 Ford F-250 diesel crew-cab 4x4 with a 2740 lb Lance 845 camper. The stock tires it has on it are LT275/70R18 Continental M+S, which are load range E. I take my rig up skiing every weekend so I need something with good snow and ice traction. Other off-road traction would be good, but I don't want to increase the highway noise much, if at all, over the stock tires. Thanks

RE: TC Height - 33 Responses AVG= 12' 1/4"

Great topic. I've always been meaning to measure the height of mine. At least I'll have a ballpark idea if I continue never getting around to it. A while ago we approached an overpass on the freeway that was like 13' 9" or something and I said to my wife, "Hope the camper is less than 13' 9". As we went under it at 60 mph, I said "Guess it is."

RE: Will adding a sway bar to 2011 Chevy 3500 SRW really help?

I put on Rancho 9600 XL shocks and rear sway bar on my Ford F250. Big improvement but the shocks made 80 percent of the difference. (Put the shocks on first.)
