RE: Damage to fiver due to road construction

Let's clarify a bit for those of you that feel the need to chastise me for "having my cruise control on in a construction zone." There was no one working, very little traffic, there were no cones, it was a holiday and the road was actually marked as "uneven pavement",not an actual active construction area AND I was traveling under the posted speed limit :h This is a new wrinkle....since you were warned about the hazard that caused the damage, I think it unlikely in the extreme that you can hold anyone responsible here but yourself. Tough luck, lesson learned (I hope) and thank heavens for insurance, right? :@

RE: Comfort First

Comfort for us equates to a nice sized shower, a walk-around queen sized bed, an awning with a screen room, and a beautiful view. We have no need for a second bedroom, space for recliner chairs, or elaborate AV systems. Value means reliability and resale. We very much like the Bigfoot and Escape brands made in Canada, and the Gulfstream Visa made here in Indiana. Of the two molded Fiberglass trailers on that list, only Bigfoot offers a walkaround queen bed. No Escape model is wide enough for such a configuration. You might take a look at the (almost)all-aluminum Camplite 21 footer- it's in the same price range as the Bigfoot, it has a rear queen walkaround, and it's very lightweight for the size. Per resale values: I own an FgT myself, and am an active member of a forum dedicated to the type. Based on my observations there, here's my take on the resale question: Molded fiberglass has a reputation for value-holding, but those with wood interiors can have the same problems associated with any conventionally built trailer. If water gets in- and it often will- deterioration of interior cabinetry etc. will occur. Those molded trailers with fiberglass interiors are much less susceptible to such inside damage, but there are none currently in production that have the walkaround queen you want. Resale on the Camplite is harder to assess since it's so new...those few used units that come on the market tend to go fast, and at a good price. It of course will have no problems associated with wood rot since Camplite doesn't use any wood....it does now offer "wood-look" interiors, but they're made of composites and are equally immune to water damage.

RE: cubic foot of wood? how big is this? damn restrictions

This sounds like it must be a private campground, and just a captive-market measure. I'd go with the presto logs- one will burn for two or three hours. A cubic foot of presto logs is probably around six- plenty for two nights. Hot tip from here at Camp Cheapskate :If you go to a farm store where they sell them unwrapped they're much cheaper than grocery-store prices. And for cooking over the fire: Bring a bag of briquets- they're easier to cook over than wood anyway!

RE: TPMS. Necessary or just peace of mind?

TPMS's are for people that can't/won't check the air pressure in their vehicles' tires on a routine basis, as used to be the norm. Unfortunately, those are the same people that won't pay any attention to the TPMS either, so one has to wonder what the heck the point is. Wow. I am speechless! Must be nice to have it all figured out. When you have a small travel trailer like Francesca you really don't need one I guess. :S Add good training into the mix, and you've got it figured out!:) Like my Daddy always said: Ain't no substitute for touching, tasting, feeling- machines can be wrong, but only a living person can be DEAD wrong.

RE: Snake!!!

You do know that killing a snake in most, if not all states, is illegal. No such blanket laws in Washington State or Oregon, though there are a few "protected" species that it's illegal to kill/possess.

RE: Snake!!!

The rangers at the State Park visitors center over at Vantage keep a crook'd stick with which they pick up the rattlers that crawl into the people areas. They maintain that a snake's biggest fear is breaking its back, and that seems to be true. It's amazing to watch how the snake will "freeze" once picked up by its middle...the ranger just walks off with the snake hanging from the stick and deposits it out in the rocks where it belongs. P.S. It's a l-o-o-o-n-g stick- no sense taking any chances that the old boy will come to life mid-journey!:E!

RE: OCD dogs...LOL!!

Hilarious! Reminds me of the story about the guy whose dog liked to sleep in his "master's" chair- every time he got up, the dog jumped up and took his place. One night the dog starts growling and looking at the door as if there was something outside, so naturally our hero got out of his chair to go look....and when he came back, the dog was blissfully asleep in "their" chair! Gotta hand it to the little buggers...:B

RE: Insects in the toilet bowl

Any chance that the eggs might have come from the freshwater tank that supplies the water to the toilet?

RE: Pushing your PUP around by hand

Mine's a TT, not a PUP, but it's in the same weight class... I totally understand the necessity to move the trailer around once it's in the shop. I took the chair part off an old office chair and stuck a ball on the base- those four rubber casters make it real easy to situate my trailer anyplace I want to.

RE: Class A only resorts

I was just told an interesting story from an attorney in Florida about class A only resorts. Apparently, Prevost coaches are NOT class A coaches......hmmmmmm. He said that if you look at the title, it says "bus conversion". He is working with one of the class A resorts that had a suite filed because someone came with a big class 8 truck conversion like mine and also like my coach the title states "CLASS A" ON IT. Apparently he was turned away once he showed up with his new IKON, a $450K ++ coach. Ends up the resort has to change the by-laws to include class A coaches and Bus Conversions. He also informed them that if a title states class A they must accept it or clearly state in the by-laws that it is restricted. Fun fact I thought. No, you didn't. Well, maybe the "fun" but certainly not the "fact" part. Congratulations, though, on this classic and bee-you-tee-ful example of the ubiquitous "Troll Post"...tons of responses in a very short time period. Of course, most of us have figured out by now that this is a product only of your fertile imagination. Nice touch using the "An Attorney said this" stratagem. An Attorney from the law firm of Dewey-Cheat'em-and-How, no doubt! :R

RE: Smithville meats

What's going to change is that pork will stop being cheap for those of us here in the U.S.A. China is a HUGE pork consumer, and it's willing to pay for ours. I remember back when I used to be able to buy the geoduck that grows here in Washington State...but then trade with China opened up. They love those big ol' clams over there, and at first they just got really expensive, but now: I can't buy geoduck at ANY price! I doubt pork will disappear from our grocery stores, but I guarantee that it's about to get a lot more expensive.

RE: Winter in Nevada? Be aware

Eighteen bucks a year for each vehicle, and seven for each (old) person. That's fifty bucks for a couple with a moho/toad combo. Hard to believe folks would rather go back north in January than spend such a pittance, but I s'pose some might.

RE: What's the REAL scoop on cell phones & 911?

If I read the O.P. correctly, the concern isn't being exactly located, but with being connected to the right (local) 911 center instead of the "home" center of the cell phone. As others (including the Fire Chief) have said, that concern has long been laid to rest, as I found out a couple of years ago 500 miles from home. I had to call 911 in behalf of another person and the call was picked up by the 911 operator in the county I was in at the time.

RE: 5 Hurt in Truck/Travel Trailer Accident

Seriously? It's legal to ride in a TT being towed? That's crazy talk. I had no idea. Would never. Hard though it may be to believe, it is legal in some States link- perhaps those that consider themselves to be overpopulated? :@
