RE: Winegard or VuCube 2000

I trust you folks that use these chain 'em up when you have it outside. I can imagine that they could disappear pretty quickly otherwise.
Ted H.
I use a bungee cord to keep the wind from blowing it off the shelf. We have camped in all 48 lower states and have never felt like we had to chain everything down in any campground we have been in. Relax and enjoy your travels.

What brand?
Cooper
I know that the LT tires don't have the weight capacity of the ST but I still have excess capacity for the actual weight of our trailer.

RE: Duro Tires

Our trailer had 16" Duro, radial, tires when we bought it. One year and 10,000 miles later after we got set up in a campground I noticed a lump on the side of one tire the size of my fist. This was just after we had finished a trip through mountainous and twisting narrow roadways. I'm glad that it didn't blow on that route but didn't want to wait for that to happen again so I found a tire service nearby and had all 4 of these Chinese ST tires replaced with US made LT ,load range E tires.

RE: Winegard or VuCube 2000

We have the VuQube 1000 and like it very much. We have Dish service and all the channels that we watch are on 119 so that works okay. I built a shelf to mount it on our rear ladder whenever that has a view of the south/southwest sky and it works well most of the time. I don't have first hand knowledge of the Winegard system but do know that it requires two connections, one cable and one 12v power connection and the VuQube only requires the cable connection.

RE: chasing covered bridges

Great thread and super pictures. If only the more modern bridges that I designed for MoDOT would endure as long.

RE: "Wiring fault on trailer" message

I had the same problem with our current truck, '06 F350, and previous trailer. Traded trailers and now no more "trailer fault" messages so it had to have been a problem with the trailer wiring somewhere.

RE: Dual LP Tanks Question

We leave both valves open and just check for the red indicator every few days. When the red shows just flip the lever to the other tank and then have the empty filled. There is no easy way to tell what level of gas you have in the tank and that is why the automatic switch-over valve was developed. This way you don't have to go out in the middle of the night or in a pouring down rainstorm to open the second tank.

RE: Are RVs supposed to stop at all truck weigh stations?

Many years back, in Missouri, all trucks including pickups had to stop at all weigh stations for proper licensing verification. Now only commercial vehicles are required to stop.
It's only commercial vehicles that are required to stop in all states now, not private use RVs.

RE: Do You Talk To Your GPS?

I talk to Miss Navi all the time, her last name is Gator. When I make a wrong turn and she has to get me back on track I always apologize. When I decide on a different route than she has picked and she tries to get me to do a u-turn my wife will sympathize with her.

RE: Flying J truck stop problems

The clerk was right and the manager only saw the easy way out by refunding your $2+ to get rid of you. Why would anyone think that it's okay to wash the front of their rig with the windshield squeegee.

RE: RV living room ergonomics...who designs these things??

We are now in our third 5th wheel trailer since retirement and have not had any crik-in-the-neck problems watching the television in any of them. The first was a JAYCO designer which is the OP's favorite brand and it was a good trailer. The second was a HR Presidential which in our opinion was a better trailer and still comfortable watching the tube. The current trailer is a Cameo and again in our opinion the best of the three and also the most comfortable watching the television.

RE: Weather (humidity) in KS/ MO in mid September...?

You will more likely see hot weather at that time of year. Snows will probably not show up until November or December. There is a good FHU campground in Columbia, Cottonwoods, if you get that far or there are a couple just on the east side of KC, Trailsides and a KOA.

RE: Ouch!!!!!! Heads up!!!!

That's why we don't drive I-70 between KC and Topeka or I-35 from KC south to OK. Since we aren't in any hurry we take the roads less traveled.

my VuQube ladder platform

Just thought I would share the platform that I built to hold my VuQube on the ladder of our trailer. It was built from one 8' 1x4, a 15"x15" piece of 1/4" plywood, two 5/16" carriage bolts, and two corner brackets. If the south sky is open to this fixed location all is well. The Qube is above ground away from people shadows that can block signal and bungied down in case of a wind.

RE: I 79 through WV

Your trip would be just like our return home from a visit with our daughter in Baltimore. I-68 west to I-79 southwest to Charleston, WV and then I-64 east to I-70 at St. Louis. It's a great route with less traffic and more scenery than I-70 across OH, IN, and IL and less than 100 miles further. Also miss Columbus and Indianapolis while Charleston and Louisville aren't too bad to travel through.

RE: Warning: KOA Duluth-Cloquet MN

When we started our RV travels I told the DW that it was a federal law that to get a permit to build a campground you had to be located within a half mile from a railroad track. Over the past ten years we have checked into 248 campgrounds (one of those was the Duluth-Cloquet KOA) in all of the lower 48 and the first thing we always ask each other is "where is the RR track?" and it usually isn't long before we hear the proof. It sure hasn't spoiled our travels.

RE: 2006 F350 6.0 diesel owners

Our 2006 F350 PSD has been nothing but a pleasure to drive. We now have 47000 miles on the truck and 34000 of those has been pulling our 5th wheel to all four corners of this great country of ours. We started pulling a 5th wheel with a 1995 F250 460 ci gas truck and then a 2000 F350 7.3 diesel and now this truck pulls the easiest and best of the three. I put it in tow-haul and cruise and off we go.
