RE: Shower drains into holding tank....Geeesh!

I have the same situation as all lance 815 owners do. I installed a bypass valve. If I want I can fill the tank or I can go garden hose. This way I can water the local fawna or route it into a bucket for recyling or whatever. Last time I owned up to this I was flamed by the greenie crowd. After this summer drought I'll bet a lot of folks would be happy to take my grey shower water.

RE: hydro flame gass valve

I agree with p tuna. 1500 watts is 1500 watts no matter how you package it. You will get the same efficiancy and output from your old milkhouse heater as the new fancy models. Should be able to do an internet search and locate a gas valve.

RE: Sub-Floor hanging out?

Looks like you have a problem there. I don't know that I would open that up. Seems that light bent sheet metal is not doing its job or you scraped it when pulling the truck out a time or two. Maybe just a pc of say 1 1/4 x 1 1/4 angle predrill the holes. Could also try some clips if you don't want to run an angle the whole way.

RE: Wow, price to have a TC-Port was ridiculous

As a contractor myself I think your price is pretty high. Prices vary greatly by region. Here I get about 23k for a standard 30x40x10 high pole barn with concrete floor. Pricing stuff at HD is no compare. No compotent contractor would purchase material there. Its junk. Get some more bids. Make sure your bidders understand exactly what you want. I would have to check it out a little more but I could fly out there build that thing you want and fly home for a fraction of that price.

RE: Norcold N300 doesn't cool on LP

I have the same unit. I pulled mine out cleanup the chimney. Only when I replaced the burner assembly did the thing start to work as I expected. I messed around with it for 3 years. The burner looked good but the new burner is much larger and cleaner. I bought mine at Holland Motor Homes as they are a norcold distributer. I think it was like $50 for this $2 part but it did the trick.

RE: Using Bronco Camper on Jacks

I had a bronco 1000. It was designed not to be used off the truck. The floor was very flexible so it needed the strength of the truck bed to support wieght off the truck. I used some 5 gallon buckets with a matrix of 2x4s when it sat next to the garage. I sold it and bought a lance. The lance is designed to be used off the truck. The floor system is very strong and does not flex. I still keep it on a cart when next to the garage but not all the time. The lance cost me 9 times what the bronco did. I did break even on the bronco. If I sold the lance today I think I would make a little. I always make money on boats, motorcycles, vehicals etc so this would not surprise me. I buy right take care of stuff and make improvements. Support the floor or buy a little better made rig.

RE: Walmart futon mattress better than dinette cushions?

I went to a shop and had new cushions made with a much better foam. I use one of those college dorm back support cushions with armrests as well. its no recliner but pretty close. When you buy a new 20k harley one of the first upgrades you do is get a new seat. There are lots better choices than the manufactures use. Foam does'nt sell in the show room curtians do.

RE: Canada and DUI

I have a good friend that routinley did business in Canada. One day they stopped him(first time) an asked if he had any conviction. He had a 12 year old dui. He was denied entry and has not been back. The client tried to help with their govt reps. He went to our congressmen been 2 years and he still cannot enter or do business in Canada.

RE: RV & Tent Camping Heating Options

I have to agree with tplife, as a vetern motorcycle camper. An air mattress is for the beach or swimming pool. If you sleep on the ground in a tent and you want to stay warm and comfortable under most conditions a self inflating sleep pad is the way to go. They cost a few bucks for the good ones but they last a long time. I can ride my harley anywhere withinreason all I need is a quality tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, single burner stove and pot for coffee, and a fishing pole. The rest is optional.

RE: Air Bags or Helper Springs on GMC 1/2 ton

I am going on 10 years with a similar set up. I had an 92 gmc, 01, gmc, 08 silverado, 11 silverado all 1/2 ton. 3 different campers, currently a lance 815. I am about 2200 loaded for a month out. About 10% over. I have no problems whatsoever. I used springs on the first 2 trucks, air bags on the last 2. I do run E rated tires. These new generation trucks are way better than the older ones. I run 3/4 for work and I believe the 2011 1/2 is a better rig than my old 01 3/4 was. It has more power, better braking, 6 speed trany etc. I pack light, just me and a dog or 2. I only scale about 200lbs worth of gear. I don't know where these guys get 1000lbs of stuff. I don't drink beer, and no wife so that does save a lot right there. I drive with caution like when I am on my Harley. I figure there all out to get me. I would caution I have heard in canada its illegal to go over the door sticker. Here in the states it is understood that is a manufactures suggested we only have to worry about axel weight per commercial regs like 20k per axel. They do not scale rv's. I have heard in canada they do scale rv's. I was going to my rig to alaska but did not due to this concern. I would mount the rig and try it out. Air bags with the overloads slightly engaged works best for me. I don't think the rancho shocks work on the front due to the new coil over suspension. If you have the z71 it comes with the bilstiens which work just fine for me. I think the rancho are better but at 11 k I'll run the bilstien for a while. I never switched them on my 08.

RE: The Great Northern Redneck Adventure - Final Planning

Just to clarify we here in Mi refer to that SE corner of the state as Detroit. Its not really part of Mi just a place we send our money. Lots of people live there and many more used to. Its a danger zone and a mess. Like Chicago and all those towns that make up Greater Chicago. The Ford museum is a cool place. If you like car museums check out Gilmore tween GR and Kzoo. They have a nice web site. I would suggest after crossing the bridge(mac) follow the west coast. Check out the light houses and towns. Once in GR you can make a day run to Detroit. I would not stay there.

RE: My Lance Sprung a Leak, . . . Update

Ask Lance what the gooy stuff is. I would NOT use silicone lots better products out there. I buy Geocell caulk from the roofing supply place. They have a better product than geocell now I will try it next time around. You don't have enough of a leak to worry about. I guess you never know untill you tare it down but you look good. I would put it back together and go camping.

RE: Let there be music!

How about a nice pair of quality head phones? Seems to me an amp powered sub woofers and camping are not a good mix. I have sat in a very remote tree stand and enjoyed the distant boom boom boom of some audio nut. The local deer were not impressed either. Sound is one of those things we have to use personal restaint so as not to impose on our fellow man. I would compare a camper with an obnixious sound system to a camper running around naked. One offends the ears the other offends the eyes.

RE: Our Camping History 1963 to 1975

WOW! What a great write up. Brings back memories. When I was 14 (1971) dad sold the family business in Chicago. We spent the next summer going Chicago, Alaska, LA, Chicago in a 69 ford camper special, with a Cobra TC. The folks and 4 kids. We enjoyed the view from the front window.

RE: Tent for motorcycle camping

I have been looking for a good cycle tent as well. Hope to make a run to Alaska next summer. I think one very important criteria for a cycle tent is quick set up take down. Picture riding all day rain storm coming on fast. Also you are always moving set up and take down each day. Should have room to sit up or almost stand. A vestible large enough to park the bike under would be a plus. I do bring a small tarp for that. I have a large harley so I have some room for a cycle. Generaly travel alone. Bear proof would be a plus as well. I don't know much at all about tents so keep searching please. Some links would be helpfull as well. I posted this a few months ago and got like 2 responses.

RE: Optimum screw length for Lance roof attachments

Just open a roof vent pop out the screen and do a little measuring. Mine a Lance lite is about 2" You could also remove the vent trim and slip a nail or thin blade in the space then measure that.

RE: White flag raised - sell parts, or start from scratch?

Never buy lumber from Home Depot. Go to a lumber yard. You won't believe the differance in quailty and its generaly cheaper as well. Good luck with rest of it, sounds like a cheap lession.

RE: batteries off-gassing...H2S?

As a side note a battery explosion is nothing you want to experiance. I had it happen once to me. I was charging a defective forklift battery in the forklift. When I hit the ket to try and start the truck motor, I saw a flash in the corner of my eye. It went KKKBOOOM! It blew the battery in a thousand pcs. The top blew off and blew off the hood of the fork truck. It ripped the battery conections right off severing the cables. My backside was sprayed with acid. When they say a battery can explode they mean explode. Nothing you ever want to experiance. If that happened in my camper battery compartment I think it would blow right up into the bath and rip siding off the side. Its a bomb.

RE: Moving On - turnbuckle question, 1,775 camper weight

As I recall, both your tie downs angle forward. So both your tie downs are trying to pull the TC forward. Yes they keep it from drifting back and taking even more weight off your front axle. Maybe you should limit how far forward the thing can go. I would suggest a 2x6 wrapped in indoor/outdoor carpet. If a 2x6 is not enough or perhaps to much adjust accordingly. I will add I have run a 1/2 ton TC combo for about 10 years now without any issues. I only run with newer american made equipment. I travel alone and light. I don't run in mountians. I am extremely handy and an exellent operator. Ive had a CDL for 35 plus years over 1 million miles without a ticket or recordable accident. I know my limitations and drive accordingly. My advise to you would be size up the truck, or size down the camper soon. I would also find a new dealer with a more knowlegable service department. I do all my own stuff and have the tools and experiance. I am guessing this is not your area of expertise.

RE: It's almost summer but I forgot the snowshoes!

When Lewis and Clark were making there return trip from the Pacific ocean, the natives warned them of late snows in the mnts. I guess they new there stuff. Lewis was forced back for going too early as well. I thought we had short summers here in Mi. Thanks for sharing.
